But have you ever wondered what the celebration is all about? In this article, we'll take a closer look at the history behind this significant day.

The History Behind Independence Day:

- In 1775, the thirteen American colonies rebelled against the control of Great Britain and sparked a war known as the Revolutionary War.

- After a year of fighting, the Second Continental Congress voted for the colonies to officially declare their independence from British rule.

- Thomas Jefferson, along with Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Robert Livingston, and Roger Sherman, was appointed to write a document explaining why they were declaring their independence.

- The Declaration of Independence was presented to Congress on June 28, 1776, and officially adopted on July 4, 1776.

- The document not only stated that the colonies would no longer be under British rule, but also that governments exist for the good of the people they govern and that all people are equal.

Why Do We Celebrate Independence Day?

- July 4th is the day that the colonies declared their freedom from Great Britain, making it a significant day in American history.

- The 4th of July is often referred to as America's birthday, and it has been celebrated every year since its adoption in 1776.

- Independence Day is celebrated with parades, music, gun salutes, cannonfire, and, of course, fireworks.

Clip from Louis CK’s New Special

Have you ever watched an ad on YouTube and felt guilty for skipping it? I was watching an ad today and realized that it's not just a means of marketing, but it's also a creative effort. However, the ad I watched was a public service announcement about anti-smoking, featuring a Puerto Rican man with a hole in his throat. It got me thinking about a few things.

Main Points:

- Skipping Ads is Rude: Contrary to popular belief, skipping ads on YouTube is not only rude but also disrespectful to the creators who put in their efforts to make them.

- Anti-Smoking PSA: The ad that I watched was an anti-smoking PSA featuring a Puerto Rican man with a hole in his throat. The man talked about how his parents smoked, and he wished he had never smoked. It made me wonder why he still had an accent even though the air was coming out of the hole in his throat.

- Good Will Hunting: I was looking for a scene from the movie Good Will Hunting, and I stumbled upon a scene that made me angry. Matt Damon, who wrote the movie and played a complicated young man, wore a tight T-shirt throughout the movie. He was a construction worker who got into fights and was also a genius. The scene that angered me was when he taunted another guy by saying, How do you like them apples? after getting a woman's phone number.

- Matt Damon's Genius: Matt Damon wrote the entire movie, and he made everyone say all the things to make the scene possible. He even based the entire prank on the guy liking apples, which seemed unrealistic.

- Guilt over Skipping Ads: Watching that ad made me feel guilty about skipping ads, and it made me appreciate the creative efforts of ad makers.

In conclusion, watching an ad on YouTube is not just a means of marketing, but it's also a creative effort. Skipping ads is rude and disrespectful to the creators who put in their efforts to make them. The anti-smoking PSA and the scene from Good Will Hunting made me think about the creative genius of Matt Damon and how he made everyone say all the things to make the scene possible. It also made me feel guilty about skipping ads and appreciate the efforts of ad makers.
