How to uninstall (remove) Storm Alert (ads in Chrome, Firefox, IE)
Hi! In today's video, I will show you how to remove the Storm Alert adware. This adware displays ads and offers deals on various browsers like Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, especially on shopping websites. It seems to be a common problem for many users to uninstall or remove this program from the control panel, as it gives an error stating that you don't have sufficient rights to do so.
The main folder where this adware is installed is a hidden folder called Program Data\Storm Alert. If you show hidden files and folders, you will be able to see this folder, which contains all the main files of the program. However, I would not recommend directly removing this folder, as it might corrupt the standard uninstaller. Instead, try to remove the program using the standard Add or Remove Programs feature in Windows or use Safe Mode if necessary.
Alternatively, you can use several antimalware programs that are effective in removing this adware. I have tested three of them and found that they all correctly detect and remove Storm Alert. The first one is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, which successfully detected the adware and removed all its files and folders. The second program, SpyHunter, is the most effective against adware. It not only detected Storm Alert but also found other adware and threats on my computer. The results provided by SpyHunter are more detailed, allowing you to analyze and remove all the identified threats. The third program, Stronghold AntiMalware, also detected the folders and files of Storm Alert and can remove them with a simple click of the Fix Now button.
These steps should help you remove the Storm Alert program from your computer. However, I have a final tip for you to remove adware and unwanted extensions from your browsers. You can use a free tool called Browser Cleanup Tool from Avast. This tool does not create extensions in your browsers. Instead, it scans your browser plugins and extensions and allows you to remove the ones with a low rating (three stars or lower). Follow this process for all your installed browsers and then restart your computer to complete the removal.
That's it! Thank you for watching, and don't forget to subscribe to my channel. Goodbye!
Changes of Browser Support for TLS 1.0 & 1.1
Hi, it's Alan from Crashtest Security. In this video, I'll tell you about industry guidelines for TLS 1.0 and 1.1, how different browsers handle their deprecation, and how to remediate websites or applications that still use these outdated protocols. Let's get started!
- TLS 1.0 and 1.1 have been around for quite some time, but they should not be used anymore due to security issues.
- Attacks like Padding Oracle Attacks, Lucky13, and SSL BEAST can compromise the security of these versions.
- Crashtest Security considers TLS 1.0 and 1.1 as critical security vulnerabilities.
TLS 1.0 and 1.1 General Industry Guidelines:
- The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) prohibits the usage of TLS 1.0 since June 30th, 2018.
- The German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) recommends not using TLS 1.1 due to its usage of the SHA-1 hash function, which is not collision-free.
- TLS 1.2, introduced in 2008, is widely adopted and recommended as a successor.
- TLS 1.3, released in 2018, is gaining popularity and is supported by many TLS stacks, web servers, and load balancers.
Browser Support for TLS 1.0 and 1.1:
- Major browsers announced their plans to stop support for TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in the first quarter of 2020.
- Estimates suggest that TLS 1.0 and 1.1 connections account for 0.5% to 1.11% of all connections.
- Google Chrome shows a warning for insecure websites using these outdated protocols.
- Most browser providers re-enabled support for TLS 1.0 and 1.1 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, allowing access to critical information.
- Google Chrome plans to remove TLS 1.0 and 1.1 support in Chrome 84, scheduled to release in July 2020.
- Mozilla planned to remove TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in March 2020 but later re-enabled them temporarily.
- Microsoft announced the removal of TLS 1.0 and 1.1 support in Edge and IE in 2020.
- Apple's Safari Webkit team published a post in 2018 to remove support for TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in March 2020.
The Trade-Off for Browser Providers:
- Browser providers face a difficult trade-off in shutting down support for TLS 1.0 and 1.1 during a time of increased cybercrime activity.
- It would be preferable for essential pages still using these protocols to upgrade to newer versions for better security.
- Allowing a few extra months of support with warnings is a calculated risk, especially for people in distress who rely on critical information.
- As a website or web application vendor, it's crucial to ensure visitors have a secure protocol to access your page.
- Use Crashtest Security to check if your website still supports TLS 1.0 or 1.1 and take steps to disable them.
- Follow our PCI Migration Guidelines for secure TLS configuration and trusted certificates.
- Try Crashtest Security today for automated vulnerability scanning and integrate it into your development stack.
