00:00:00 00:00:03 hey everyone my name is tatiana james
00:00:02 00:00:06 and this
00:00:03 00:00:09 is video three of my four part amazon
00:00:06 00:00:11 fba video training series for beginners
00:00:09 00:00:13 now if you haven't yet watched videos
00:00:11 00:00:14 one and two
00:00:13 00:00:17 you can get free access by going to
00:00:14 00:00:18 tatianajames.com
00:00:17 00:00:21 fba or clicking the link in the
00:00:18 00:00:23 description box of this video
00:00:21 00:00:24 video one was about starting your amazon
00:00:23 00:00:27 fba business
00:00:24 00:00:28 to achieve financial freedom video two
00:00:27 00:00:31 was all about product research
00:00:28 00:00:32 how to find viable products to sell on
00:00:31 00:00:34 amazon
00:00:32 00:00:36 and that entire video was a screen share
00:00:34 00:00:37 so it was a tutorial i showed you how i
00:00:36 00:00:39 do product research
00:00:37 00:00:40 and in this video today we're going to
00:00:39 00:00:44 be discussing your
00:00:40 00:00:46 amazon fba roadmap to success
00:00:44 00:00:48 so what in this video i'm going to be
00:00:46 00:00:50 summarizing all the steps that you're
00:00:48 00:00:52 going to need to take on your journey
00:00:50 00:00:54 with starting your amazon fba business
00:00:52 00:00:56 and the whole point of this video
00:00:54 00:00:58 is to zoom out so that you can get a
00:00:56 00:01:00 better understanding of this whole
00:00:58 00:01:02 process of selling on amazon
00:01:00 00:01:04 so that you can be left feeling a sense
00:01:02 00:01:07 of confidence knowing what to expect
00:01:04 00:01:09 on this journey so i'm not going to go
00:01:07 00:01:12 in depth with any one of these
00:01:09 00:01:13 steps because that's going to take a
00:01:12 00:01:15 very long time
00:01:13 00:01:16 again the idea is to zoom out and just
00:01:15 00:01:19 give you a summary
00:01:16 00:01:20 so that you know what to expect on this
00:01:19 00:01:23 journey all right so
00:01:20 00:01:26 step number one is picking a
00:01:23 00:01:29 product to sell on amazon this is
00:01:26 00:01:30 fundamental you've got to pick a product
00:01:29 00:01:32 to sell on amazon
00:01:30 00:01:34 and remember here we're not trying to
00:01:32 00:01:36 invent something new
00:01:34 00:01:38 we are looking at the amazon marketplace
00:01:36 00:01:41 we are looking for products that are
00:01:38 00:01:43 already selling well we're doing the
00:01:41 00:01:46 math we're get pulling the data
00:01:43 00:01:46 we're following a set of criteria to
00:01:46 00:01:49 help us
00:01:46 00:01:51 evaluate which products would be viable
00:01:49 00:01:52 products to sell on amazon
00:01:51 00:01:54 and that's how we are determining what
00:01:52 00:01:56 product to sell
00:01:54 00:01:58 and remember that video two was all
00:01:56 00:01:59 about product research so again if you
00:01:58 00:02:02 haven't watched that one
00:01:59 00:02:04 go back and watch it so that you can see
00:02:02 00:02:05 how i do product research to help me
00:02:04 00:02:07 find
00:02:05 00:02:08 really unique and cool products to sell
00:02:07 00:02:11 on amazon
00:02:08 00:02:11 i will give you one tip though after
00:02:11 00:02:13 working with
00:02:11 00:02:16 hundreds of amazing sewing machine
00:02:13 00:02:18 students these are students who enrolled
00:02:16 00:02:20 in a program to teach them how to build
00:02:18 00:02:23 an amazon fba business
00:02:20 00:02:24 many people get hung up on step number
00:02:23 00:02:27 one
00:02:24 00:02:30 picking a product now there are many
00:02:27 00:02:33 reasons primarily because
00:02:30 00:02:34 they fall into analysis paralysis which
00:02:33 00:02:37 means that they have a
00:02:34 00:02:38 very hard time making a decision and
00:02:37 00:02:40 it's because
00:02:38 00:02:41 they become perfectionists they're
00:02:40 00:02:45 looking for this
00:02:41 00:02:46 perfect product to sell on amazon and
00:02:45 00:02:49 let me tell you this i'm going to save
00:02:46 00:02:50 you time the perfect product for you
00:02:49 00:02:52 isn't out there you don't really know
00:02:50 00:02:54 what you're looking for when you're
00:02:52 00:02:57 looking for the perfect product
00:02:54 00:02:58 so my advice to you is to understand the
00:02:57 00:03:00 value of time
00:02:58 00:03:01 time is money we've heard it before and
00:03:00 00:03:04 in this
00:03:01 00:03:06 industry especially so yes you do want
00:03:04 00:03:08 to follow the criteria
00:03:06 00:03:09 you want to make sure that you are doing
00:03:08 00:03:13 your due diligence
00:03:09 00:03:14 um using your brain to make an educated
00:03:13 00:03:16 decision
00:03:14 00:03:18 but if you find yourself getting hung up
00:03:16 00:03:20 on this and it's just taking you
00:03:18 00:03:22 too long to make a decision give
00:03:20 00:03:24 yourself a deadline
00:03:22 00:03:26 by this date you must make a decision so
00:03:24 00:03:26 that you can move forward with the
00:03:26 00:03:28 product
00:03:26 00:03:32 and move forward with your business you
00:03:28 00:03:34 want to get started as soon as possible
00:03:32 00:03:35 what's more valuable than the money that
00:03:34 00:03:37 you're gonna earn with your first
00:03:35 00:03:38 product is the experience that you're
00:03:37 00:03:41 gonna gain
00:03:38 00:03:42 because it's your first time building
00:03:41 00:03:44 this business
00:03:42 00:03:46 there's so much that you're gonna learn
00:03:44 00:03:47 and this whole process that i'm
00:03:46 00:03:48 explaining to you that i'm summarizing
00:03:47 00:03:50 for you
00:03:48 00:03:51 there's a lot involved in doing all of
00:03:50 00:03:53 these steps
00:03:51 00:03:55 and so you're going to learn a
00:03:53 00:03:56 tremendous amount through this
00:03:55 00:03:58 experience
00:03:56 00:03:59 and you may not make a million dollars
00:03:58 00:04:01 from your first
00:03:59 00:04:02 product or make a fortune most people
00:04:01 00:04:04 don't but
00:04:02 00:04:06 with that experience they can take that
00:04:04 00:04:07 experience and then they can launch
00:04:06 00:04:09 their second product
00:04:07 00:04:11 and then their third and their fourth
00:04:09 00:04:13 because again it's a process and a
00:04:11 00:04:14 process can be replicated
00:04:13 00:04:16 except the second time you do it you
00:04:14 00:04:18 have more experience so you tend to make
00:04:16 00:04:20 better decisions
00:04:18 00:04:21 and you're going to be able to really
00:04:20 00:04:24 build your business
00:04:21 00:04:26 profitably so step number two is
00:04:24 00:04:29 contacting suppliers
00:04:26 00:04:32 and getting samples so once you have
00:04:29 00:04:33 chosen your product okay you might feel
00:04:32 00:04:35 a little bit of uncertainty you're like
00:04:33 00:04:36 i don't know if this was the product
00:04:35 00:04:38 but let me tell you you're never going
00:04:36 00:04:40 to feel 110
00:04:38 00:04:42 confident because again it's the first
00:04:40 00:04:43 time you do this the second time you
00:04:42 00:04:45 launch a product and the third time
00:04:43 00:04:47 you're going to have way more confidence
00:04:45 00:04:49 because you have that experience
00:04:47 00:04:51 so you're going to feel you're not going
00:04:49 00:04:52 to feel 110 but you've got to move
00:04:51 00:04:55 forward with your decision
00:04:52 00:04:57 and so now you have to contact suppliers
00:04:55 00:04:59 where you decide to source your product
00:04:57 00:05:00 is completely up to you you can do it
00:04:59 00:05:02 locally
00:05:00 00:05:05 you can do it internationally you the
00:05:02 00:05:08 option the choice is yours
00:05:05 00:05:09 once you have contacted at least 10
00:05:08 00:05:11 different suppliers
00:05:09 00:05:13 there is power in the numbers it is
00:05:11 00:05:16 important that you don't just contact
00:05:13 00:05:18 one or two they may not get back to you
00:05:16 00:05:19 they may not have the prices that you're
00:05:18 00:05:21 looking for
00:05:19 00:05:23 you want to contact as many as you can
00:05:21 00:05:25 my recommendation is at least 10
00:05:23 00:05:27 different suppliers
00:05:25 00:05:28 then once you have contact attend you're
00:05:27 00:05:31 going to narrow that list
00:05:28 00:05:33 down to your three favorite suppliers
00:05:31 00:05:34 how you do that is your choice maybe the
00:05:33 00:05:36 suppliers who
00:05:34 00:05:38 are the most responsive some suppliers
00:05:36 00:05:40 really want your business
00:05:38 00:05:41 others don't maybe the suppliers who
00:05:40 00:05:43 have the best pro
00:05:41 00:05:45 profit margins the best prices for their
00:05:43 00:05:47 products it's up to you
00:05:45 00:05:49 and once you find your top three
00:05:47 00:05:52 suppliers now you're going to request a
00:05:49 00:05:53 sample from each of those suppliers now
00:05:52 00:05:56 this is really important you don't want
00:05:53 00:05:57 to skip this step
00:05:56 00:05:59 they're going to offer you a sample you
00:05:57 00:06:01 may have to pay for the sample
00:05:59 00:06:03 you may not have to pay for it it will
00:06:01 00:06:04 depend on the supplier
00:06:03 00:06:06 and you'll have to pay for shipping of
00:06:04 00:06:08 course but it's important because you
00:06:06 00:06:10 need to be able to
00:06:08 00:06:12 see the product with your own highs feel
00:06:10 00:06:13 the product with your hands use your
00:06:12 00:06:16 senses
00:06:13 00:06:18 to determine the quality of this product
00:06:16 00:06:20 remember i've said it many times before
00:06:18 00:06:23 the name of the game on amazon
00:06:20 00:06:23 these days is quality you want to be you
00:06:23 00:06:26 want to be
00:06:23 00:06:27 selling the highest quality product in
00:06:26 00:06:29 your niche
00:06:27 00:06:31 you want to be able to sell at a premium
00:06:29 00:06:33 price for that reason
00:06:31 00:06:36 so you want to look for the best
00:06:33 00:06:36 supplier and sometimes a higher quality
00:06:36 00:06:38 product
00:06:36 00:06:39 means that the cost per unit will be a
00:06:38 00:06:42 little bit more
00:06:39 00:06:43 but it will be worth it long term if
00:06:42 00:06:45 you're building a brand
00:06:43 00:06:47 it's going to help you generate way more
00:06:45 00:06:48 positive reviews
00:06:47 00:06:50 and so you're going to request those
00:06:48 00:06:52 samples that you can compare all three
00:06:50 00:06:54 samples side by side
00:06:52 00:06:56 determine which ones are great which
00:06:54 00:06:57 ones you may find that one sample is
00:06:56 00:07:00 like totally useless
00:06:57 00:07:02 not high quality at all and what i would
00:07:00 00:07:04 also recommend is i would recommend
00:07:02 00:07:06 ordering products your competitors
00:07:04 00:07:08 products on amazon
00:07:06 00:07:09 because when you have these samples you
00:07:08 00:07:10 don't really have anything to compare
00:07:09 00:07:11 them to
00:07:10 00:07:14 how do you know if these are good
00:07:11 00:07:17 quality or not my recommendation
00:07:14 00:07:20 is to order the best selling uh
00:07:17 00:07:20 the best seller on amazon their their
00:07:20 00:07:22 product
00:07:20 00:07:24 so whoever the best seller is for that
00:07:22 00:07:26 product order theirs
00:07:24 00:07:28 so they're gonna be your competitor and
00:07:26 00:07:29 by ordering their product
00:07:28 00:07:31 you know that obviously it's a good
00:07:29 00:07:31 quality product that's why they're the
00:07:31 00:07:34 best seller
00:07:31 00:07:36 and so now you can compare your samples
00:07:34 00:07:36 to them so there is a reference point
00:07:36 00:07:39 here
00:07:36 00:07:39 step number three is to decide on your
00:07:39 00:07:42 supplier
00:07:39 00:07:44 and place your first order so once
00:07:42 00:07:46 you've received your samples now
00:07:44 00:07:48 it's decision time now you have to
00:07:46 00:07:52 determine which of these three suppliers
00:07:48 00:07:53 should i move forward with and what
00:07:52 00:07:55 makes you helps you
00:07:53 00:07:57 determine that is the highest quality
00:07:55 00:07:59 product
00:07:57 00:08:00 which of the products offers me the best
00:07:59 00:08:03 profit margin
00:08:00 00:08:04 the communication with the seller there
00:08:03 00:08:06 are many things to consider
00:08:04 00:08:08 but you do have to move forward with one
00:08:06 00:08:10 supplier and so once you have made that
00:08:08 00:08:12 decision then you're going to go ahead
00:08:10 00:08:14 and place your first order
00:08:12 00:08:15 with that supplier and when you place
00:08:14 00:08:17 that first order they're going to send
00:08:15 00:08:18 you an invoice
00:08:17 00:08:20 and you're going to make sure that you
00:08:18 00:08:23 don't pay more than 30 percent
00:08:20 00:08:24 of the total invoice so you're going to
00:08:23 00:08:27 send them a
00:08:24 00:08:29 30 percent deposit now the reason being
00:08:27 00:08:31 is because some suppliers if they know
00:08:29 00:08:33 that you are a beginner that you don't
00:08:31 00:08:35 have much experience in business they
00:08:33 00:08:36 might request that you pay 100 percent
00:08:35 00:08:39 of the invoice
00:08:36 00:08:40 total they may ask you to pay 80 percent
00:08:39 00:08:42 you don't want to do that you want to
00:08:40 00:08:45 pay 30 percent and not
00:08:42 00:08:46 a penny more and the reason why is
00:08:45 00:08:47 because that is the standard in this
00:08:46 00:08:51 industry a 30
00:08:47 00:08:54 deposit is very common and
00:08:51 00:08:56 you want leverage especially if you have
00:08:54 00:08:58 a supplier that's international
00:08:56 00:08:59 it's harder to kind of hold them
00:08:58 00:09:02 accountable
00:08:59 00:09:03 if something does go wrong your deposit
00:09:02 00:09:05 is enough to
00:09:03 00:09:08 to place your order so that they can
00:09:05 00:09:10 start the manufacturing process
00:09:08 00:09:11 but that means that you still owe them
00:09:10 00:09:13 70
00:09:11 00:09:14 of the remaining balance and so we're
00:09:13 00:09:17 going to tok about this
00:09:14 00:09:19 in a few steps about what happens after
00:09:17 00:09:22 your order has been completed
00:09:19 00:09:23 but the idea is that with a 30 deposit
00:09:22 00:09:25 you now have
00:09:23 00:09:26 leverage because you have yet to pay
00:09:25 00:09:29 them the 70
00:09:26 00:09:31 balance so if something does go wrong in
00:09:29 00:09:33 the manufacturing process or after the
00:09:31 00:09:36 inspection
00:09:33 00:09:40 then you have a way to make things right
00:09:36 00:09:42 step number four is to create a draft
00:09:40 00:09:44 listing in your seller central account
00:09:42 00:09:45 so you're gonna log into your seller
00:09:44 00:09:46 central account and you're gonna create
00:09:45 00:09:48 a listing
00:09:46 00:09:51 for your product which you're gonna be
00:09:48 00:09:53 selling but i say draft because you
00:09:51 00:09:56 don't need to perfect this listing
00:09:53 00:09:57 the idea is by creating this draft
00:09:56 00:10:00 listing
00:09:57 00:10:02 amazon's going to give you this unique
00:10:00 00:10:03 identifying
00:10:02 00:10:05 number which is going to be unique to
00:10:03 00:10:06 your product and you're going to want to
00:10:05 00:10:08 use that
00:10:06 00:10:09 on your product packaging you can add
00:10:08 00:10:12 pictures
00:10:09 00:10:15 and text and copy and all of that later
00:10:12 00:10:17 you can always edit your listing at any
00:10:15 00:10:19 point in time so it's not set in stone
00:10:17 00:10:21 so you're going to go ahead and create
00:10:19 00:10:22 your draft listing
00:10:21 00:10:24 and you're also going to go ahead and
00:10:22 00:10:27 buy your barcode
00:10:24 00:10:29 so if you are selling a product anywhere
00:10:27 00:10:32 it's helpful to have a barcode
00:10:29 00:10:33 that way you can identify your item is
00:10:32 00:10:35 in a fulfillment
00:10:33 00:10:36 warehouse and so you can buy your
00:10:35 00:10:40 barcodes from
00:10:36 00:10:42 gs1 and then you can just you're going
00:10:40 00:10:45 to use your barcode
00:10:42 00:10:46 to create your amazon listing and then
00:10:45 00:10:47 amazon is going to give you something
00:10:46 00:10:50 called an
00:10:47 00:10:52 fnsku number
00:10:50 00:10:54 and i know that that makes no sense
00:10:52 00:10:54 right now but it will once you get to
00:10:54 00:10:57 the step
00:10:54 00:10:58 and you're going to simply put the fnsku
00:10:57 00:11:01 number
00:10:58 00:11:02 on your product packaging okay and
00:11:01 00:11:04 that's what
00:11:02 00:11:05 what that does is that when your
00:11:04 00:11:06 products get shipped to the amazon
00:11:05 00:11:08 warehouse
00:11:06 00:11:10 the amazon employees will scan this
00:11:08 00:11:12 barcode and they're gonna know
00:11:10 00:11:14 where those products need to be put
00:11:12 00:11:15 they're gonna know that those products
00:11:14 00:11:17 belong to you
00:11:15 00:11:19 to your business so that's how they're
00:11:17 00:11:22 gonna identify your products
00:11:19 00:11:23 so it's important to have this label and
00:11:22 00:11:24 you're gonna get that as soon as you
00:11:23 00:11:28 create your amazon
00:11:24 00:11:29 listing step number five is to pick your
00:11:28 00:11:32 brand name
00:11:29 00:11:35 and create your logo and packaging this
00:11:32 00:11:37 can be a really fun step so enjoy it
00:11:35 00:11:38 don't stress out too much about picking
00:11:37 00:11:41 your brand name this is something a lot
00:11:38 00:11:43 of people get hung up on too
00:11:41 00:11:45 it's like not the end of the world you
00:11:43 00:11:48 know it can be a gen
00:11:45 00:11:49 generic thing it can be very niche to
00:11:48 00:11:52 whatever product you're selling
00:11:49 00:11:53 it's really up to you you do want to
00:11:52 00:11:56 make sure that nobody
00:11:53 00:11:57 owns that brand name already by doing a
00:11:56 00:11:59 trademark search
00:11:57 00:12:01 very easy to do just google trademark
00:11:59 00:12:02 search
00:12:01 00:12:04 and you can just type in the name that
00:12:02 00:12:07 you wish to to use
00:12:04 00:12:09 and see if anyone owns the rights to it
00:12:07 00:12:12 if not you're free to use it
00:12:09 00:12:13 and and then you can get your logo
00:12:12 00:12:15 created
00:12:13 00:12:19 where you do that is up to you you can
00:12:15 00:12:22 get it done on fiverr.com on 99 designs
00:12:19 00:12:23 you can hire freelancers if you have a
00:12:22 00:12:24 friend who does graphic design you can
00:12:23 00:12:26 ask
00:12:24 00:12:28 them to do it you're also going to get
00:12:26 00:12:30 your packaging done
00:12:28 00:12:32 so the the packaging that's going to
00:12:30 00:12:34 carry the product that you're selling to
00:12:32 00:12:37 your customers
00:12:34 00:12:38 you can ask your supplier what kind of
00:12:37 00:12:40 packaging they offer
00:12:38 00:12:42 so oftentimes if they're selling you a
00:12:40 00:12:45 product it's going to come with like
00:12:42 00:12:46 basic packaging which is free with the
00:12:45 00:12:48 product
00:12:46 00:12:50 you may use that packaging and just
00:12:48 00:12:53 simply modify some things put your own
00:12:50 00:12:54 logo on the packaging your own text
00:12:53 00:12:56 or you might ask them hey do you have
00:12:54 00:12:58 any other packaging options
00:12:56 00:13:00 if you don't like the basic packaging
00:12:58 00:13:02 that comes free with the product
00:13:00 00:13:04 they may have other packaging options
00:13:02 00:13:05 for you but it will just cost a bit more
00:13:04 00:13:07 money for those options
00:13:05 00:13:09 regardless you ask the supplier what
00:13:07 00:13:10 kind of packaging they offer
00:13:09 00:13:12 and then they will give you kind of like
00:13:10 00:13:14 a template or they're going to give you
00:13:12 00:13:16 the dimensions of the packaging
00:13:14 00:13:18 and then you could hire a designer to go
00:13:16 00:13:20 ahead and create that packaging design
00:13:18 00:13:22 for you and then you're going to send
00:13:20 00:13:24 that design to the manufacturer
00:13:22 00:13:27 and the manufacturer will simply be able
00:13:24 00:13:30 to print that design on the packaging
00:13:27 00:13:33 and make everything look really great
00:13:30 00:13:36 step number six is working on your
00:13:33 00:13:38 pre-launch so by now you've placed your
00:13:36 00:13:41 order with the manufacturer
00:13:38 00:13:42 there's going to be say a 30-day lead
00:13:41 00:13:43 time
00:13:42 00:13:45 you know you ask the manufacturer how
00:13:43 00:13:45 long it's going to take until the goods
00:13:45 00:13:48 have
00:13:45 00:13:50 are done usually takes around 30 days
00:13:48 00:13:52 for them to manufacture a product
00:13:50 00:13:54 it does depend what you're sourcing
00:13:52 00:13:55 where you're sourcing from so you just
00:13:54 00:13:58 ask them
00:13:55 00:14:00 but this is not 30 days to just sit back
00:13:58 00:14:02 kick your legs up and just relax
00:14:00 00:14:05 no this is really valuable time this is
00:14:02 00:14:08 time to be working on your pre-launch
00:14:05 00:14:09 meaning before you launch your product
00:14:08 00:14:11 on amazon
00:14:09 00:14:13 so during this time you can go ahead and
00:14:11 00:14:15 you can improve your amazon listing
00:14:13 00:14:16 since we had previously just created a
00:14:15 00:14:18 draft
00:14:16 00:14:20 you can get some cool product images
00:14:18 00:14:21 done you can create some copy for your
00:14:20 00:14:23 listing
00:14:21 00:14:25 you can also spend this time to be
00:14:23 00:14:28 building a list
00:14:25 00:14:30 building an email list or a facebook
00:14:28 00:14:32 messenger list or even a social
00:14:30 00:14:34 media following so this is something
00:14:32 00:14:36 that people often skip you don't have to
00:14:34 00:14:39 do this to sell
00:14:36 00:14:39 on amazon you can get by without doing
00:14:39 00:14:41 this step
00:14:39 00:14:44 it is going to be a bit of extra work
00:14:41 00:14:46 but hey you know what this is a huge
00:14:44 00:14:48 advantage yes you're going to be putting
00:14:46 00:14:50 a little bit of extra effort
00:14:48 00:14:52 but you're going to get a competitive
00:14:50 00:14:54 advantage amongst other sellers who
00:14:52 00:14:55 haven't done this
00:14:54 00:14:57 and so what this means is if you're
00:14:55 00:14:58 going to be building a presence on
00:14:57 00:15:00 social
00:14:58 00:15:02 media for your brand you can maybe start
00:15:00 00:15:04 an instagram page or
00:15:02 00:15:05 youtube or facebook it's gonna depend on
00:15:04 00:15:08 your
00:15:05 00:15:09 demographic who are your customers you
00:15:08 00:15:11 should know by now
00:15:09 00:15:13 who it is that you're trying to target
00:15:11 00:15:16 with your product who are you selling to
00:15:13 00:15:19 are you selling to women ages
00:15:16 00:15:22 19 to 25 are you selling to
00:15:19 00:15:24 men ages 45 to 65
00:15:22 00:15:27 like you have to know who it is that
00:15:24 00:15:27 you're selling to and by understanding
00:15:27 00:15:29 this
00:15:27 00:15:30 you can better identify where are they
00:15:29 00:15:33 spending their time
00:15:30 00:15:35 when they're on social media are they
00:15:33 00:15:37 spending their time browsing facebook
00:15:35 00:15:38 are they watching youtube videos are
00:15:37 00:15:41 they
00:15:38 00:15:43 hanging out on tik-tok on instagram
00:15:41 00:15:44 you don't have to do every single social
00:15:43 00:15:47 network
00:15:44 00:15:47 that is going to be very overwhelming
00:15:47 00:15:50 just pick
00:15:47 00:15:52 one and that's why i understanding who
00:15:50 00:15:55 it is that your target audience is
00:15:52 00:15:56 is important because if you get it right
00:15:55 00:15:58 then you'll know which platform they're
00:15:56 00:16:01 spending their time on
00:15:58 00:16:01 then you can focus on creating content
00:16:01 00:16:04 and
00:16:01 00:16:05 and doing things like in like leveraging
00:16:04 00:16:09 influencers
00:16:05 00:16:10 to help you market your brand and at
00:16:09 00:16:11 this point you're not selling anything
00:16:10 00:16:13 right
00:16:11 00:16:15 so you're trying to build a mailing list
00:16:13 00:16:19 offer something of value to people
00:16:15 00:16:21 in exchange for their email address now
00:16:19 00:16:22 this may not make any sense but this is
00:16:21 00:16:25 an extra step
00:16:22 00:16:27 that i have other videos on youtube
00:16:25 00:16:29 where i go into detail about this
00:16:27 00:16:31 you can definitely check them out on the
00:16:29 00:16:33 tatiana james youtube channel
00:16:31 00:16:35 the point of the pre-launch is to start
00:16:33 00:16:37 building up hype
00:16:35 00:16:39 you want to start getting people excited
00:16:37 00:16:41 for your product to launch so that
00:16:39 00:16:43 when launch day comes that you have an
00:16:41 00:16:45 audience of people who are
00:16:43 00:16:46 warm who are excited to to buy your
00:16:45 00:16:48 product
00:16:46 00:16:50 you don't just want to launch your
00:16:48 00:16:51 product on amazon and then
00:16:50 00:16:54 hope that people come and buy your
00:16:51 00:16:55 product no you want to put in the work
00:16:54 00:16:58 in advance
00:16:55 00:17:00 to ensure that you have even a small
00:16:58 00:17:03 amount of people who are
00:17:00 00:17:06 ready and anxious to buy your product
00:17:03 00:17:10 step number seven is to hire a third
00:17:06 00:17:14 party inspection agency so
00:17:10 00:17:15 you get a email or a skype message from
00:17:14 00:17:18 your supplier letting you know that
00:17:15 00:17:19 manufacturing is complete and
00:17:18 00:17:21 now they're asking you to pay the
00:17:19 00:17:24 remaining
00:17:21 00:17:27 balance for the invoice and you say okay
00:17:24 00:17:28 great thank you so much that's wonderful
00:17:27 00:17:31 you let them know that you're going to
00:17:28 00:17:32 be hiring a third party inspection
00:17:31 00:17:34 agency
00:17:32 00:17:36 and what this simply means is that
00:17:34 00:17:40 you're going to hire an independent
00:17:36 00:17:42 agency to go to your manufacturer's
00:17:40 00:17:44 facility wherever they're located and
00:17:42 00:17:47 they're going to inspect the inventory
00:17:44 00:17:49 because you aren't there in person you
00:17:47 00:17:51 can't be there especially if you're
00:17:49 00:17:53 sourcing internationally
00:17:51 00:17:55 you can hire people to do this for you
00:17:53 00:17:56 so they go ahead and they inspect the
00:17:55 00:17:58 products
00:17:56 00:18:00 they make sure that the quality is up to
00:17:58 00:18:02 par that it's
00:18:00 00:18:04 exactly like the samples you received
00:18:02 00:18:07 you tell them what to look for
00:18:04 00:18:11 and they will either pass or fail your
00:18:07 00:18:13 manufacture and if they pass wonderful
00:18:11 00:18:14 that's great news that means you can
00:18:13 00:18:17 move on to the next
00:18:14 00:18:19 step if they fail the inspection
00:18:17 00:18:21 that means that maybe some units were
00:18:19 00:18:24 broken some units were not
00:18:21 00:18:26 as described some units are
00:18:24 00:18:28 you know low quality whatever it may be
00:18:26 00:18:29 whatever the reasons for failing the
00:18:28 00:18:31 inspection
00:18:29 00:18:34 now you ask your supplier to make it
00:18:31 00:18:36 right your supplier you may
00:18:34 00:18:38 replace the broken items they may
00:18:36 00:18:40 reimburse you for
00:18:38 00:18:41 items you can determine how you want to
00:18:40 00:18:43 go about it
00:18:41 00:18:46 but you can negotiate with them and the
00:18:43 00:18:46 reason you can negotiate is because you
00:18:46 00:18:50 have
00:18:46 00:18:53 yet to pay them the 70 percent balance
00:18:50 00:18:55 had you paid 100 up front and you came
00:18:53 00:18:56 to this point and they failed the
00:18:55 00:18:58 inspection
00:18:56 00:19:00 then you have no leverage over the
00:18:58 00:19:02 supplier
00:19:00 00:19:03 you can't say like hey 50 units are
00:19:02 00:19:06 broken
00:19:03 00:19:08 please reimburse me for them most likely
00:19:06 00:19:10 they won't do anything at that point
00:19:08 00:19:13 because they got their money
00:19:10 00:19:16 so in this case you want that leverage
00:19:13 00:19:18 so now you can negotiate them and
00:19:16 00:19:19 oftentimes they will make it right they
00:19:18 00:19:20 will give you the replacements they will
00:19:19 00:19:22 work with you
00:19:20 00:19:24 because they want to make sure they get
00:19:22 00:19:27 their money and so that's what happens
00:19:24 00:19:28 and then you can make things right and
00:19:27 00:19:30 then they can
00:19:28 00:19:31 pass the inspection and then you can
00:19:30 00:19:34 move on to the next step
00:19:31 00:19:36 so step number eight is then to go ahead
00:19:34 00:19:37 and pay your supplier you pay them the
00:19:36 00:19:40 balance
00:19:37 00:19:40 and then step number nine is to hire a
00:19:40 00:19:43 freight
00:19:40 00:19:44 forwarder a freight forwarder is
00:19:43 00:19:47 essentially going to
00:19:44 00:19:50 organize the logistiks of your shipment
00:19:47 00:19:52 from point a to point b and
00:19:50 00:19:55 you don't need to hire a freight
00:19:52 00:19:57 forwarder you can do it yourself or you
00:19:55 00:19:59 can have your manufacturer organize the
00:19:57 00:20:00 shipment for you sometimes they will
00:19:59 00:20:03 offer this
00:20:00 00:20:04 for free but i recommend working with a
00:20:03 00:20:06 fake forwarder
00:20:04 00:20:07 i think it makes a world of a difference
00:20:06 00:20:09 i myself
00:20:07 00:20:11 i don't know much about shipping
00:20:09 00:20:14 especially shipping products by
00:20:11 00:20:15 sea if you choose to ship by sea rather
00:20:14 00:20:17 than by air
00:20:15 00:20:19 by boat um you know that that your
00:20:17 00:20:22 products can be on a ship for the next
00:20:19 00:20:25 30 days the next 45 days
00:20:22 00:20:26 and there's a lot to it you know when
00:20:25 00:20:29 you're shipping something by
00:20:26 00:20:31 by sea there's a lot of logistiks
00:20:29 00:20:34 involved there's the customs taxes
00:20:31 00:20:37 there's the bond um
00:20:34 00:20:39 there's a lot and i am by no means an
00:20:37 00:20:41 expert in this field i don't even want
00:20:39 00:20:43 to learn how to do this
00:20:41 00:20:44 so i hire a freight forwarder to take
00:20:43 00:20:46 care of it for me
00:20:44 00:20:48 so i can have peace of mind and the
00:20:46 00:20:51 freight forwarders are
00:20:48 00:20:52 a wonderful investment it's a small
00:20:51 00:20:56 price to pay
00:20:52 00:20:58 for that peace of mind they're usually
00:20:56 00:21:00 maybe a couple hundred dollars for their
00:20:58 00:21:01 service and they organize everything
00:21:00 00:21:04 like i said
00:21:01 00:21:05 they will contact your supplier directly
00:21:04 00:21:07 you let them know where you're going to
00:21:05 00:21:10 be shipping the items to
00:21:07 00:21:12 and they manage the entire thing so i
00:21:10 00:21:13 definitely recommend working with a
00:21:12 00:21:15 freight forwarder
00:21:13 00:21:16 the freight forwarder i've been working
00:21:15 00:21:19 with for the last five
00:21:16 00:21:20 years i will tell you who they are and
00:21:19 00:21:23 the reason
00:21:20 00:21:24 being because i know that many people
00:21:23 00:21:26 recommend some of these
00:21:24 00:21:29 big freight forwarding companies these
00:21:26 00:21:30 big names and they can be more expensive
00:21:29 00:21:32 so when i say the freight forwarder is
00:21:30 00:21:34 usually a couple hundred dollars and you
00:21:32 00:21:35 guys go and google it and you find that
00:21:34 00:21:37 it's more expensive than that it's
00:21:35 00:21:38 probably because you're looking at one
00:21:37 00:21:40 of those big companies
00:21:38 00:21:42 where they need to be more expensive to
00:21:40 00:21:44 make a profit the freight forwarder i've
00:21:42 00:21:46 been working with for a number of years
00:21:44 00:21:48 they're a small company
00:21:46 00:21:50 they don't do much marketing i've been
00:21:48 00:21:51 working with the same woman named patty
00:21:50 00:21:54 for five years she's
00:21:51 00:21:55 an angel and so i'll let you know who
00:21:54 00:21:58 they are
00:21:55 00:22:02 um they're called c riders and
00:21:58 00:22:05 you can email amazon seariders.com
00:22:02 00:22:08 um they will give you 20 off of your
00:22:05 00:22:10 shipment if you mention my name tatiana
00:22:08 00:22:12 and i have just done a little tiny
00:22:10 00:22:14 partnership with them for this
00:22:12 00:22:16 because i've been sending a lot of
00:22:14 00:22:18 people their way
00:22:16 00:22:19 and they appreciate that and they want
00:22:18 00:22:22 you guys to get the best deal
00:22:19 00:22:23 so check them out if anything you can
00:22:22 00:22:25 ask them for a quote
00:22:23 00:22:27 but i definitely recommend working with
00:22:25 00:22:29 a freight forwarder regardless of who
00:22:27 00:22:32 you choose to work with
00:22:29 00:22:36 step number 10 is to create an inbound
00:22:32 00:22:38 shipping order on amazon seller central
00:22:36 00:22:39 so how do you know where you're going to
00:22:38 00:22:42 ship
00:22:39 00:22:43 your products to amazon has warehouses
00:22:42 00:22:46 all over the states
00:22:43 00:22:48 and in every state how do you know which
00:22:46 00:22:50 warehouse you're going to be shipping
00:22:48 00:22:52 your products to what address do you
00:22:50 00:22:54 give your freight forwarder
00:22:52 00:22:55 the way that you know is by creating
00:22:54 00:22:57 this inbound
00:22:55 00:22:58 shipping order so you log into your
00:22:57 00:23:00 amazon seller central you click on your
00:22:58 00:23:02 listing and then you create
00:23:00 00:23:04 an inbound shipping order and
00:23:02 00:23:05 essentially amazon's going to tell you
00:23:04 00:23:07 they're going to give you an
00:23:05 00:23:09 address and then that's the address that
00:23:07 00:23:11 you use so it's the address you would
00:23:09 00:23:12 give to your freight forwarder let them
00:23:11 00:23:13 know that's where you're shipping your
00:23:12 00:23:16 products to
00:23:13 00:23:19 step number 11 your goods arrive
00:23:16 00:23:20 at the amazon warehouse this is time to
00:23:19 00:23:23 celebrate
00:23:20 00:23:24 this is exciting you've come really far
00:23:23 00:23:27 you came from
00:23:24 00:23:28 thinking about this idea of starting an
00:23:27 00:23:30 online business
00:23:28 00:23:31 and envisioning what it could create for
00:23:30 00:23:34 you in your life
00:23:31 00:23:36 to actually taking action and doing
00:23:34 00:23:36 something about it instead of just
00:23:36 00:23:39 toking
00:23:36 00:23:41 to now actually having your products
00:23:39 00:23:44 arrive at the amazon warehouse
00:23:41 00:23:45 you did it so celebrate this you've got
00:23:44 00:23:47 to celebrate
00:23:45 00:23:49 these steps because nobody else is going
00:23:47 00:23:52 to do it for you reward yourself
00:23:49 00:23:53 take care of you you earned it step
00:23:52 00:23:55 number 12
00:23:53 00:23:56 okay so it's time to market your
00:23:55 00:23:59 products
00:23:56 00:24:00 as i said before you could have the best
00:23:59 00:24:03 product in the world
00:24:00 00:24:05 super high quality super high value but
00:24:03 00:24:07 if you don't know how to do marketing
00:24:05 00:24:08 nobody's ever going to see it
00:24:07 00:24:10 they're not going to have the
00:24:08 00:24:12 opportunity to buy your product
00:24:10 00:24:14 and i say opportunity i say this for a
00:24:12 00:24:16 reason because
00:24:14 00:24:18 in order for someone to give you their
00:24:16 00:24:20 hard earned money
00:24:18 00:24:21 for a product it's because they see
00:24:20 00:24:24 value in that product
00:24:21 00:24:27 i'm not going to buy this iphone
00:24:24 00:24:29 case and spend my money on it unless i
00:24:27 00:24:31 think it's worth the money
00:24:29 00:24:33 and so you are giving people an
00:24:31 00:24:34 opportunity to buy something that they
00:24:33 00:24:37 think is value
00:24:34 00:24:38 valuable enough for them to buy so you
00:24:37 00:24:40 are literally exchanging
00:24:38 00:24:42 value right it's in different form they
00:24:40 00:24:44 exchange value in the form of cash
00:24:42 00:24:45 you actually exchange value in the form
00:24:44 00:24:48 of a product
00:24:45 00:24:50 it's a beautiful thing so marketing is
00:24:48 00:24:51 very important you're going to be
00:24:50 00:24:54 turning on your amazon
00:24:51 00:24:56 advertising so when you're using fba
00:24:54 00:24:58 amazon fba that's what this whole
00:24:56 00:25:01 process is right fulfilled by
00:24:58 00:25:04 amazon amazon gives you this opportunity
00:25:01 00:25:06 to use their advertising platform and
00:25:04 00:25:08 what it means is that they have this
00:25:06 00:25:11 thing called pay-per-click advertising
00:25:08 00:25:12 where you can set up these ads so that
00:25:11 00:25:15 shoppers on amazon
00:25:12 00:25:16 can see your product listing and it
00:25:15 00:25:17 gives them the option to click on that
00:25:16 00:25:19 listing
00:25:17 00:25:21 and you don't pay for that advertisement
00:25:19 00:25:22 until someone clicks
00:25:21 00:25:24 on your listing so it's a pretty good
00:25:22 00:25:26 deal so you're going to turn on those
00:25:24 00:25:29 amazon ads so that you can start getting
00:25:26 00:25:31 seen by customers because otherwise when
00:25:29 00:25:33 you first launch a product you're going
00:25:31 00:25:34 to be on like page 20
00:25:33 00:25:37 of the search results and i don't know
00:25:34 00:25:38 about you but for myself when i find
00:25:37 00:25:40 something on amazon
00:25:38 00:25:42 i'm usually not willing to go past page
00:25:40 00:25:43 number three before i make my buying
00:25:42 00:25:45 decision
00:25:43 00:25:46 so by using amazon ads you're going to
00:25:45 00:25:50 be able to get
00:25:46 00:25:51 seen on page one page two depends on
00:25:50 00:25:53 what your bid is
00:25:51 00:25:56 but you're going to be able to get seen
00:25:53 00:25:58 especially in those early
00:25:56 00:25:59 stages when you're a brand new amazon
00:25:58 00:26:00 seller
00:25:59 00:26:03 you're also going to sign up for
00:26:00 00:26:05 amazon's early reviewer program
00:26:03 00:26:06 maybe you've been part of a discount
00:26:05 00:26:08 site before where
00:26:06 00:26:09 you can get discounts on product in
00:26:08 00:26:12 exchange for a review
00:26:09 00:26:12 well amazon has their own discount
00:26:12 00:26:15 program
00:26:12 00:26:16 embedded into their system where they
00:26:15 00:26:20 select the best
00:26:16 00:26:20 amazon shoppers or people who always
00:26:20 00:26:22 rate
00:26:20 00:26:24 give really great reviews really
00:26:22 00:26:25 thorough reviews and they invite them to
00:26:24 00:26:28 this program
00:26:25 00:26:29 and you can sign up for it so that you
00:26:28 00:26:31 can
00:26:29 00:26:32 give some products away at a discount
00:26:31 00:26:34 and you can get those
00:26:32 00:26:36 early reviews now it's important to get
00:26:34 00:26:38 reviews on your amazon listing
00:26:36 00:26:40 because when you build reviews you're
00:26:38 00:26:43 building social proof
00:26:40 00:26:45 people know that the people who are
00:26:43 00:26:47 leaving these reviews are customers
00:26:45 00:26:48 they're people just like you and i who
00:26:47 00:26:50 are shopping on amazon
00:26:48 00:26:52 they needed a product they bought the
00:26:50 00:26:53 product they had an experience
00:26:52 00:26:55 with that product and whether the
00:26:53 00:26:58 experience was good or bad
00:26:55 00:27:00 they decided to leave a review and so
00:26:58 00:27:01 any potential customers that are going
00:27:00 00:27:03 to your amazon listing
00:27:01 00:27:05 if they see five-star reviews if they
00:27:03 00:27:06 see positive reviews
00:27:05 00:27:09 that's going to influence their buying
00:27:06 00:27:10 decision it's going to make them more
00:27:09 00:27:12 likely to purchase your product because
00:27:10 00:27:14 they see that other
00:27:12 00:27:15 customers past customers were happy with
00:27:14 00:27:17 the product
00:27:15 00:27:18 so they think oh well if they were happy
00:27:17 00:27:20 then i will be too
00:27:18 00:27:21 now if you have negative reviews on your
00:27:20 00:27:23 amazon listing
00:27:21 00:27:25 like two-star reviews saying that the
00:27:23 00:27:27 quality was bad or that it broke
00:27:25 00:27:29 which is why we want to make sure we
00:27:27 00:27:31 have the highest quality product
00:27:29 00:27:32 then that's also going to influence
00:27:31 00:27:34 their buying decision
00:27:32 00:27:36 if you have two star reviews they're
00:27:34 00:27:38 more likely not going to buy
00:27:36 00:27:40 your product so you want to make sure
00:27:38 00:27:42 you're getting those initial reviews and
00:27:40 00:27:44 the early reviewer program
00:27:42 00:27:46 is one way to do that and then you want
00:27:44 00:27:48 to do some external marketing
00:27:46 00:27:50 you don't just want to focus on what you
00:27:48 00:27:52 can market inside of amazon you can do
00:27:50 00:27:54 marketing outside of amazon
00:27:52 00:27:57 use those social media accounts that you
00:27:54 00:27:59 built up do some facebook advertising
00:27:57 00:28:00 you can play around there are so many
00:27:59 00:28:02 options these days
00:28:00 00:28:03 pick a couple things that you want to
00:28:02 00:28:05 learn how to do
00:28:03 00:28:07 and go ahead and do that and it's going
00:28:05 00:28:09 to be again a learning curve but you'll
00:28:07 00:28:12 get the hang of it
00:28:09 00:28:13 step number 13 is to earn your first
00:28:12 00:28:16 dollar
00:28:13 00:28:18 while you are sleeping wow that's
00:28:16 00:28:20 an exciting moment i remember the first
00:28:18 00:28:22 time that i made a dollar
00:28:20 00:28:23 when i was sleeping i woke up in the
00:28:22 00:28:24 morning and someone bought my products
00:28:23 00:28:27 like
00:28:24 00:28:29 what that's awesome like you no longer
00:28:27 00:28:32 have to exchange your time for money
00:28:29 00:28:34 this is revolutionary because
00:28:32 00:28:35 in the past if you've always worked in
00:28:34 00:28:38 nine to five you had to be
00:28:35 00:28:39 at your job you had to be working in
00:28:38 00:28:41 order to
00:28:39 00:28:44 earn that paycheck in order to make that
00:28:41 00:28:46 income with this business you can earn
00:28:44 00:28:48 money while you sleep
00:28:46 00:28:50 while you're sleeping there are people
00:28:48 00:28:52 in other time zones that are buying your
00:28:50 00:28:55 products it's a really cool feeling so
00:28:52 00:28:57 again this is a time to celebrate
00:28:55 00:28:58 i remember when i made my first sale of
00:28:57 00:29:01 a cognac sponge
00:28:58 00:29:02 on amazon i was actually in vegas i was
00:29:01 00:29:06 at a sellercon
00:29:02 00:29:09 event sellercon is the largest ecommerce
00:29:06 00:29:10 event for amazon sellers and it's hosted
00:29:09 00:29:13 by the amazing slime machine
00:29:10 00:29:14 which is my favorite amazon course i was
00:29:13 00:29:16 at this event
00:29:14 00:29:18 and i had finished up the whole day of
00:29:16 00:29:20 the event i was really exhausted but i
00:29:18 00:29:21 went back to the hotel room and i saw i
00:29:20 00:29:24 had made my first
00:29:21 00:29:26 sale on amazon and i was celebrating
00:29:24 00:29:27 with my partner we were jumping up on
00:29:26 00:29:30 the bed like
00:29:27 00:29:30 little kids and it was like only like 10
00:29:30 00:29:33 bucks
00:29:30 00:29:34 but still like the first dollar that you
00:29:33 00:29:37 earn
00:29:34 00:29:38 is going to be the hardest because again
00:29:37 00:29:39 what is involved to earn that first
00:29:38 00:29:41 dollar
00:29:39 00:29:43 you're building a foundation for
00:29:41 00:29:45 yourself to earn your second sale your
00:29:43 00:29:48 third sale
00:29:45 00:29:51 it gets so much easier so celebrate this
00:29:48 00:29:53 moment because this is a pivotal moment
00:29:51 00:29:55 in your life life will never be the same
00:29:53 00:29:56 again and i'm just speaking from
00:29:55 00:29:59 experience
00:29:56 00:29:59 i never want to go back to the life that
00:29:59 00:30:02 i had
00:29:59 00:30:03 prior to owning my own business my own
