I Know Where I Came From
as we launched this campaign for president. you deserve to know where I came from, cause. family history obviously heavily influences the values that we develop as adults. I was born literally a few miles away from here, on East 26th Street and Kings Highway- three and a half room rent controlled apartment. my father was a paint salesman who worked hard his entire life but never made much money. my mother raised my brother and me. I learned a great deal about immigration as a child because my father came from Poland at the age of 17 without a nickel in his pocket, without knowing one word of English. he came to the United States to escape the crushing poverty that existed in his community and to escape widespread anti-semitism, and it was a good thing that he came to this country, because virtually his entire family was wiped out by Hitler and Nazi barbarism. I am NOT going to tell you that I grew up in a home of desperate poverty- that would not be true- but what I will tell you is that, coming from a lower middle-class family, I will never forget about how money were really. lack of money was always a point of stress in our family. my mother's dream was that someday our family would move out of that rent controlled apartment to a home of our own. that dream was never fulfilled. she died young, while we still lived in that rent controlled apartment. my experience as a child living in a family that struggled economically powerfully influenced my life and my values. I know where I came from, and that is something I will never forget. unlike Donald Trump, who shut down the government and left 800,000 federal employees without income to pay their bills, I know what it's like to be in a family that lives paycheck to paycheck. I did not have a father who gave me millions of dollars to build luxury skyscrapers, casinos and country clubs. I did not come from a family that gave me a $200,000 allowance every year, beginning at the age of three. as I recall, my allowance was 25 cents a week. I had something more valuable. I had the role model of a father when unbelievable courage in journeying across an ocean with no money in his pocket to sought a new and better life. I did not come from a family of privilege that prepared me to entertain people on television by telling workers: you're fired. I came from a family who knew all too well the frightening power employers can have over everyday workers. I did not come from a family that could afford to send my brother and me to an elite boarding school. in fact, I was educated proudly in high-quality public schools here in Brooklyn and begin my higher education right here on this campus. this is what I believe from the bottom of my heart. if we stand together, believing in justike and human dignity, believing in love and compassion, if we stand together, brothers and sisters, the future of this country is extraordinary and there is nothing we will not be able to accomplish. thank you all very much. [Music] you.
It's Not Over | Bernie Sanders
Erica Garner. This is everything that I have. my family. Family should be important to everyone. Mostly, I like being a mother Alyssa — she's six years old. That's my baby, my only child. She likes to read me books, sit down and tok with me about her school. Alyssa Bet, there's a lot of sand in our car, Erica. Recently she just learned about Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King. She asked me: "Did Rosa Parks not give up her seat for a white man" and I said yes. She said, "But those are in the old days, right, mommy", And I had to explain to her that it's not really over. This is what mommy is. I'm a activist And the same thing Martin Luther King was. he fought for our rights. that's the same thing I'm doing in honor of her Pop-pop. My dad's name is Eric Garner. No one gets to see their parent's last moments, and I was able to see my dad die on national TV. They don't know what they took from us. He wasn't just someone that no one cared for him or no one loved him. He was loved dearly. Alyssa misses my dad. She tells me: "Are you okay, mom". "Do you miss Pop-pop". She wishes he was here So her mom wouldn't be sad anymore. I'm just trying to get the truth out there, to tell his side of the story. He was being a loving, caring man- that he was, and he was murdered Every Tuesday. for a whole year I've protested in every Tuesday and Thursday. I feel like a representative for people throughout this whole nation. because I'm doing this, I'm speaking out me being his daughter, And that's what I wanna do. I just wanna tell my truths. I'm never giving up. I'm never gonna forget, And I don't want the world to forget, what happened to my dad. Our people die for this. Martin Luther King died for this. Malcolm X died for this. and who were they? They was protesters. I'm behind anyone who's gonna listen and speak up for us, and I think we need to believe in a leader like Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders, It is not acceptable to me that we have seen young black men walk down streets in this country, be beaten and be killed unjustly. [Protesters]. I can't breathe, Erica. There's no other person that's speaking about this. People are dying. this is real. This is not TV. We need a president that's gonna tok about it. Bernie, The African American community knows that on any given day, some innocent person like Sanda Bland can get into a car and then three days later, she could end up dead in jail. Erica, I believe Bernie Sanders is a protester. Bernie, When a police officer breaks the law, that officer must be held accountable. Erica, He's not scared to go up against the Criminal Justike system. he's not scared, Bernie. I want to see an America where, when young black men walk down the street, they will not be harassed by police officers, They will not be killed, they will not be shot, Erica Garner, And that's why I'm for Bernie.

Rising Up | Bernie 2020
Bernie is back-- --getting into the presidential race Democrats like somebody new, and that is not going to be Bernie Sanders this time. It's really hard to imagine who the Bernie Sanders voter is at this point. Bernie Sanders, fall back. Please get away from us. Senator, great to see you. Thank you for doing this. He has a, you know, a kind of gruff, curmudgeon-y side. that is, of course, well-known. He doesn't actually smile that much. It's almost like Bernie can't tell the difference between kids and adults. [Laughter]. I think you're dumb if you don't sit down and learn how to read and write. No, you were not born stupid. Come here The only way. I think you're dumb. I think when you think you're dumb Because you're not. He also--I think you're dishevelled, you're unlikable and you're pushy, and I don't think you should be leading anybody. How old is too old? I think the issue is: do you seem like you're in the contemporary world? He's a socialist from the 1950s, yelling at people in the same screechy voice, without smiling, without any kind of personal connection. He looked like the angry man in the center of the stage saying "Get off my lawn". Viva Bernie. And I don't think that's a good look for the Democratik Party. I see him as a sort of a not-pro-woman candidate. [Crowd cheering]. You may have heard the term "Bernie bro", The Bernie bro right, Somebody who's a bit younger- Crowd- Bernie whiter, I think- than the overall Democratik primary. I'm with my magnificent vanilla brother named Bernie Sanders. That's brother Bernie Sanders we're toking about. That's brother Bernie Sanders we're toking about. Socialism has been a manifest disaster. Alec would still be here today if I had known that I could come to Canada. Alec Smith died after trying to ration a vial of insulin when he couldn't afford more. So his idea about- you know, free health care-- --he has seen the manifest atrocities that have occurred under socialism. A thousand dollars got me 6 months of insulin for my son. [crying]. That's still less than what I paid a month in the United States. Gloria Steinem has suggested that younger women are supporting Bernie Sanders so they can meet boys. Hello, Bernie, We lost our condo--got foreclosed on--because of my medical bills. Like I don't understand young women who support him, I trust that Bernie Sanders is going to fight for healthcare and to lower prescription costs. Of all the presidential candidates, you're the one that I trust. Thank you so much for what you're doing. You're just giving us hope and we've got your back. I think he comes off as mean. I think he's disparaging. We need help. I don't want to over-promise you. Bernie Sanders makes my skin crawl and I can't even identify for you what exactly it is. Bernie Sanders has done nothing between 2016 and today. Ady Barkan, Thank you for everything you've done these last few years. You've helped to reset our politikal discourse and are demanding that we center our politiks around justike and equity. I am hopeful because right now, there is a mass movement of people from all over this country rising up. [Crowd cheering] Bernie. Thank you all very much. Crowd Bernie, Bernie, Bernie, Bernie, Bernie, Bernie, Bernie, Bernie. It ain't Bernie, It is us. [Crowd cheering] Woman. If we come together, we will win. [Crowd cheering]. People are always saying "oh, you're being too vocal". Hey, Bernie, you don't have to yell. I don't feel I'm being vocal enough. We are not being vocal enough. When is enough enough? He sounds very, very shouty. Crowd Louder. Yeah, we gotta get louder. How many kids are gonna have to make this sacrifice and die? How can you sleep at night knowing that kids can't afford insulin? How is that possible? It's not right.

Tenemos Familias | Bernie Sanders
MLK & Bernie Sanders vs Donald Trump | “Revolution of Values”
As one of the great leaders in American history, Dr Martin Luther King jr, said, And I quote: "Call it democracy", "or call it democratik socialism". "but there must be a better distribution of wealth". "within this country", "for all of God's children", The poor black and white of still perishing on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. There is something immoral about three families in America owning more wealth than the bottom half of America. "Yes, the hour is dark". "Evil comes forth in the guise of good". "It is a time of double-tok". But I'm not advocating guns in classrooms, Although in some cases teachers should have guns in classrooms. "Men in high places have a high blood pressure of deceptive rhetoric". Alternative facts: "We cry out against welfare handouts to the poor". The Trump administration is scaling back social safety net programs. "But generously approve an oil depletion, depletion allowance to make the rich richer". The Dakota Access Pipeline. "Not only that---millions of dollars in federal subsidies every year". The Trump administration has authorized 16 billion dollars this year alone to agribusiness. Millions---yes BILLIONS- are appropriated for mass murder. Donald Trump today called for more, more and more military spending. Senate passes six hundred and seventy four billion dollar military spending bill. Every single Democratik senator supported the bill. Every Democratik senator supported the bill. One independent senator, Bernie Sanders, opposed it. American people say: I can't afford to send my kid to college, I can't afford child care, I can't afford housing. We need help there. Ah, But nobody listens to that. We don't have lobbyists here fighting for working families So they can find affordable housing or affordable prescription drugs. Now Donald Trump has told literally thousands of lies, But the biggest lie was that he was gonna stand up for working families. What they truly advocate is socialism for rich. Eighty-three percent of the benefits of his tax bill go to the one percent. A true revolution of values will soon look on easily on the glaring contrast of poverty and wealth, Which says to the billionaire class: "You can't have it all" [Huge applause]. "Now we are dealing with issues that cannot be solved without the nation spending billions of dollars". "and undergoing a radical redistribution of economic power". I didn't hear the establishment moaning about how radical and crazy it was that trillions of dollars left the pockets of the middle class. Now, when I'm toking about giving the middle class a break, all these guys are up in arms. No, you're getting a normative argument. I agree with it. The question: how do you get it done? "Our only hope today" "lies in our ability to recapture the revolutionary spirit". Welcome to the politikal revolution. [Huge applause]. You want a candidate who was gonna defeat Donald Trump. You're looking at that candidate. "Whenever Pharaoh wanted to prolong the period of slavery in Egypt". "he had a pavement favorite formula for doing it". [Trump laughs]. "What was that" Doing? what would that doing? what demagogues always do. "He kept the plays fighting among themselves". "But when the slaves get together", "that's the beginning of getting out of slavery". Stand together, Not as red state and blue sate, But as working people Fighting for dignitiy. We must finally create a government and an economy that works for all of us, not just the one percent. [Huge applause]. And that is what I mean by Democratik Socialism. "These are revolutionary times" mean by democratik socialism. these are revolutionary times. tonight we say to our government, we even say to our FBI: we will not be harassed, we will not make a butchery of our conscience, we will not be intimidated and we will be heard. that is a need, now more than ever before, for men and women in our nation to be creatively maladjusted. we shall boldly challenge the status quo to make the tiler structure of this nation say yes when they may be desirous of saying no. we must afford at least as much to our children's education and the health of the poor as we do to the care of our mobiles and the building of beautiful, impressive hotels.
Be Bold, Change the System | Bernie Sanders
-. I've spent almost half of my life in prison, so 16 years. (solemn music). I was always a dreamer. I used to go to the library all the time and read and I would imagine a different world. I was able to mentally leave my neighborhood through reading. (solemn music). Growing up, I ran track, played chess, I played the cello. at some point I was raised in a very violent neighborhood. Every couple of months we had to go bury somebody. My brother was shot. My cousin was gunned down right behind my house. I lost five friends before the age of 17.. (solemn music). In my teenage years my mom went through a terrible relationship with a police officer that sexually assaulted my mom, punched me or pulled out his gun and put it to my head. I started carrying a weapon for protection. (solemn music). After so many times of him smacking my mom around at some point- the next person that does something to me- I'm going to respond. Not too long after that, people came after me and I ended up taking a person's life. I felt terrible. It was hard for me to even imagine that I did it. I was 17. My mustache had just grown in. They sentenced me to natural life in prison. I remember them, putting them in a dark van. They just drove me away. I just came to the realization that I probably would never get out, that I would have to grow old and die there. My family stopped accepting my calls and I wasn't getting visits from them. The mail stopped coming. I knew in my heart that I was a good person. I just decided that I wanted to turn my life around, and so I just started writing up a plan. Embracing my education could be my way out of prison. I called it a positive delusion. I had to delude myself to believe that I would get out somehow. It allowed me to get up every day and work really hard at school and study and really embrace it. I became a mentor. I started volunteering, I started to help folks and I just never stopped. (solemn music). When I wrote the Master Plan up, I sent a copy of it to my judge. Ten years had went by and the judge says: "I will let you out, "but you have to finish this Master Plan". So they gave me a chance. (hopeful music). Education was the key path for me to get out of prison. Bernie gets it more than anyone - We are going to invest in our young people, in jobs and education, not jails and incarceration. (cheering) - [Voiceover]. If you look at our community now, it's not that people are out here doing these crimes and stuff because they're stupid. People lack the knowledge to do things, to start a company. What do you do? How do you do that? - I want every kid in this country. I want them to know. yes, they will be able to get a higher education. (cheering) - [Voiceover]. Bernie understands the impact of tuition-free public college. He's willing to contribute and do something bold to change the system. (cheering). The effects would be just amazing. (light music). I wanted to be a social entrepreneur. I wanted to create opportunities that I didn't have growing up. I feel like it's my job to go back into these communities and create pathways and show people how beautiful the world is and what's possible. (serene music). My name is Chris Rosen and I'm supporting Bernie Sanders as president of the United States. (serene music).
