STOP Using Shopify Currency Converter Apps (Shopify Dropshipping)
Hey, how's it going everyone? My name is Michael, and today we're going to talk about a big problem using currency converter apps in your Shopify store and why you might not want to use them.
Before that, I want to thank everyone who has subscribed, liked and given me some type of feedback. We passed over 100 subscribers, which is an amazing start! Also, if you haven't watched my first or second video about conversion rate optimization on product pages and more, then you can watch them too. I'm sure you can also implement at least one of the tips that I gave. I also got suggested how-to videos, so I'll get those done too, and I have another video planned about cart and checkout page optimization and how to reduce abandoned carts and more.
Currency Converter Apps:
I know a lot of people who like to sell to different countries like the US, Canada, UK, and Australia, and they simply go to the Shopify app store and find a currency converter like this one. You might think it's a good idea because the app says it'll automatically switch the currency on the product page to the customer's local currency, but this isn't a great idea.
Why Currency Converter Apps Are Not A Great Idea:
In my opinion, this isn't a great idea because, yes, it can switch to the customer's local currency, but it won't convert on the checkout page. In fact, most currency converters from the Shopify app store won't convert on the checkout page, which is very important because it's the money page. These apps will just put out a message saying all orders process and USD, for example, and on the checkout page, it just shows the default currency, which isn't good.
Low Conversion Rates and Abandoned Carts:
This is why so many people who use currency converter apps see low conversion rates, many abandoned carts, and more. These customers may get confused or don't trust the store anymore.
So, what's the best solution for this? Well, the only way that I know of is using multi-currency with Shopify payments within your settings. You'll just need to add the countries and settings for this. For example, I already have Canada and the UK.
After adding all the countries in, you just need to get the geolocation app from the Shopify app store, and you'll see a currency selector on the footer or whatever you have it selected to. So let's select it to pounds, and it'll automatically convert the price.
Keep in mind that this is a demo store, so the product page and cart page and checkout page were not optimized at all, but I'll leave a link on the top of my video about product page optimization, and I give eight tips on how to increase conversion rates on a product page.
No Friction or Problems:
So let's click checkout, and the price will automatically stay in pounds, so the customer will pay in their local currency and will have no friction or no problems.
Second Best Option:
Now, if you don't have access to Shopify payments, then the second-best option would be to delete the currency converter app and just leave your prices as default. So if you have your default for USD, just leave it at that.
Store Optimization Tips:
Here's an example from a person that I helped on their store. I saw they were using a currency converter app like before, and I told them that I see many people having abandoned carts. So I gave them my advice about removing it, and they saw their profits boosted up to 30 percent daily, and their conversion rate was above one percent where before, they had a below one percent conversion rate.
That's about it for today's video. I do have a list of video ideas about more store optimization tips and more. I also thought it was a good idea if you guys wanted me to do store reviews or audits to talk about what they're doing wrong or right. So if you like this type of content, please make sure to subscribe and like so more people can get recommended to them. Thank you!
