Buying and Selling Guitars - The 20% Rule to Always Come Out on Top
Hey guys, Steve Reese here with Player Great Guitars. In this video, we'll be talking about how to buy and sell guitars online while applying my 20% principle to make sure you never lose money and always come out on top. So, let's get started!
The 20% Principle:
- Anytime you buy a guitar, you need to make sure you'd feel comfortable listing it online for 20% more than you paid for it.
- This rule out new guitars, as you can find much better guitars from years ago with better tone woods and quality control for a fraction of the price.
- To apply the principle, you need to do market research on Reverb, eBay, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and Facebook groups to know the going price for the particular model.
- Once you've found a guitar that you can list for 20% more than you paid for it, you can be confident that you won't lose any money on the sale.
- The goal is always to maximize your return on investment and profit margin.
Examples:
- 2005 Gibson SG Les Paul VOS: Purchased for $1,650, can list for $2,200 (20% increase).
- 1992 Gibson Les Paul Standard: Purchased for $1,850, can list for $2,220 (20% increase).
- 1965 Gibson SG Special: Purchased for $2,800, can list for $3,360 (20% increase).
By following my 20% principle, you'll never lose money when buying and selling guitars online. Always do your research and be honest with yourself about the guitar's market value. Apply the principle to any musical instrument you plan to resell online. Thanks for watching, and don't forget to like and subscribe to my channel for more content!
