as i walk the streets in puerto rico i
think back to
almost a year and a half ago when
facebook ads first introduced
cbo's campaign budget optimization and
when facebook rolled this out
i was waiting i was sitting there like
okay where's the information what's that
supposed to mean where's the little bit
of training or tidbits
on how this actually works they offered
next to no information which was pretty
new
and i was waiting to wait in asking my
facebook rep and not that nobody knew
much so
over the last year and a half i have
embarked on a journey
to try and master and at least get very
good at one of the newest ways of
marketing and setting up your budgeting
on an ad platform like facebook and the
results have been pretty crazy it's been
super fun to see that growth
both inside of my own e-commerce brands
as well as for clients now inside of our
advertising agency
which is the example that we're gonna be
going through today now if you stik
around until the end of the video
i'm gonna give you some games some sauce
and some very hidden things
on stuff that you can do to number one
prevent your ad account from being
disabled in the first place
and number two some steps that you
should take if it does get disabled for
any reason so

so let's start toking about all things
cbo's if you can't tell i'm kind of
jazzed up this has been one of my
favorite ad strategies for quite some
time
it's not the only thing i use still do
dabble with ad sets and i love to start
new ad accounts with ad sets but we're
going to tok about the cbo strategy
and simple definitely definitely wins so
we're going to
start it from scratch or scaling okay
these are two different strategies you
can implement with cbo's but inside of
our advertising agency
you can start from scratch or if you
want to scale we can do that for you no
problem so
i want to give a big big shout out to
our media buyers inside of our
advertising agency we currently have 14
people
working full time as media buyers
primarily running facebook ads
for clients of ours that's amazing
they've been killing it and this is
specifically run by one of our media
buyers
who has really really dialed in the cbo
strategy
so i love little side strategies like
this personally
because the more of them you know and
the little tricks and tips and stuff you
can do
the better you can test a product before
determining okay this is officially
not a winner this is not gonna work this
product is crap i gotta switch it
and that's super valuable because when
you're trying to test a product and you
just do
one ad strategy and it doesn't work well
what if it's just because the ad
strategy didn't optimize or something
was off on the budgeting or the
targeting
there could be a hundred different
reasons why something doesn't work and
we do
kill products pretty quick when we're
testing for a new client or if i'm
trying to start a new store
i test pretty quick right i don't like
to hang on to a loser because
it's just kind of it brings up bad
memories when i did that when i started
because i went broke by testing one
product and one product only
for four months it really sucked so
that's why i like to test pretty quick
and so this ad strategy kind of fits
into that so
this is a 50 a day cbo take notike here
on the budgets it's not the lowest you
can start with
it's also not the highest but this is
super
super super basic okay now the
difference here that's a little bit
different between anything else we've
been doing for
um you know typical ads that i'm running
or stuff starting from scratch we've now
started introducing
more ad sets into this however this is
very relative
based on how many good quality audiences
you find so
whatever research method you learned for
finding audiences and targeting inside
of your facebook ad account
however many that spits out if you find
a three to test okay you can do a
three ad set cbo that's kind of the
minimum by the way
but uh from there you could go upwards i
wouldn't like to stretch it beyond 10
especially if you're at a low budget
because with the low budget
the spend is not being distributed
evenly and as you can see in a cbo
these are the ad sets here one of them
spent 50 bucks that's
half okay this is over a two day window
half one spent three dollars
39 cents that's no money it's not gonna
get a conversion
26 okay that started optimizing it
optimized in this direction pretty hard
and it didn't get a sale right it did
not get a sale
okay you have a dollar ninety seven four
five eight forty seven
obviously you let this run for a couple
days you know like this one that got
three dollars
uh for the cost per purchase at 27 roads
obviously you got to see if that
specific audience and that ad set
gets another sale you don't want to just
make a decision based off one but the
cool thing is
when you have multiple inside of here
like that for this example seven ad sets
now you can start turning off ones that
don't work just don't do this all at
once like don't say oh
all right only two of these are working
let me turn off the other six or the
other five whatever that's too quick
it's too fast go slow let things run
and we're going to tok about the ad
account safety in a minute you'll
understand why you want to go slow
so that's just a visual example for
those who follow me here on youtube and
stuff by the way subscribe down below
you know that i'm a visual learner
that's how i learn so that's how i like
to teach
so i grabbed a screenshot from inside
the ad account here is kind of what that
looks like
okay now ad set versus cbo testing
this comes down to your total launch
budget so if you're trying to get your
ads working and optimized with let's say
a 200 budget ver total versus a thousand
dollars whatever your starting budget is
whatever you're dedicating that one
product
it is going to change how you approach
things so for an example the 50
a day cbo strategy might not be the best
if you only have 200 bucks
the reason for that is you're gonna max
out your spend in the first
four days that leaves you no extra
wiggle room and so you're banking on the
fact that just in those four days
you can get enough purchases to
hopefully be around breakeven or above
or somewhere near below
so you can continue supporting the cash
flow you're really banking on like a
very short window of time frame with
just a handful of audiences
to get them working now the issue might
not be your targeting it just might be
the optimization it can take time
facebook's all about building data so
just keep that in mind if you're
starting with a smaller budget
you might be better off pulling out ad
sets individually
and just running let's say two ad sets
each at ten dollars a day
because now your testing window goes
from four days to ten days right 200
divided by two or whatever the number by
20 that's 10.
so you can break it down based off your
budget i always recommend people go in
with a little bit of a higher budget
that you need and never dedicate 100 of
your budget
to one product things take time people i
get this question probably three times a
day on instagram and it's not that i
want to bash anyone who says it like
can i start with 100 oh i'm starting
with 200 what's the strategy i'm like
well unless you are amazing phenomenal
running ads even if i was trying to
start something with 200
i would have to have found the best
product that would just work
phenomenally right out of the gate and
have an amazing creative
so the problem is a lot of people with a
200 budget
don't have any information they haven't
gone through even one course they
haven't learned anything except some
basic youtube stuff
and the problem with that i'm not saying
it can't work i've seen it work a few
times it's kind of a diamond in the
rough
the problem is they don't know these
strategies they haven't tested it out
so there's really no data backing up
their decisions and usually that small
budget just ends up being depleted and i
hate seeing that
because it could have been saved up and
used for something else so that's kind
of the ad set versus cbo basics now
here's a couple of basic things that i
want to tok about with uh kind of the
ad account safety and some things that
go into that so besides the whole launch
budget thing which is super important
if your personal side of facebook and
the business facebook are brand new
you should only launch one of these okay
when you're testing so keep that in mind
we're going to tok more about the ad
account safety in a moment
now the cool thing is cbo's are a lot
more modifiable versus
just one ad set okay now let's say you
have an
ad set you're not running a campaign
budget optimization you're showing one
ad set
but it has two videos under there or two
videos and one carousel right
three different things well now you can
start to change the variables because if
it's working but like one of the
creatives is clearly not performing at
all but it's spending money
you could just kill that one so you can
modify it but the cool thing that i do
like about cbo's
and this took so long since facebook
offered no information to learn this
you can start to modify these so over
time i would slowly start turning off a
few of these
starting with the ones that are spending
a high budget and bringing back
no sales right because those are the
inconsistent ones
some people are like oh well turn off
the low budget ones they're not
optimizing they're not getting any spend
but what they don't consider and this is
what i've realized over time is when you
turn off this 26 dollar spend one that's
spent a huge portion of the budget 26
that one when it gets turned off where
you want to figure this out where is
facebook going to allocate that spend to
is it going to be back to the one that's
working the best up here and consistent
with the higher spend already or is it
going to be distributed to some of the
lower budget ones
and now you get to actually see if those
audiences work now what's crazy is this
26
spend one might be a great audience that
will work in another cbo
or another ad set it could just be how
it optimizes inside of
this cbo so that's what i like cbo's are
very modifiable so you can start to
slowly kill stuff and modify it a little
bit
but if you're starting a cbo start with
minimum three ad sets
because if not you're better off just
separating it out into two
ad sets because inside of a cbo it needs
room to diversify and spread out that
budget that's the whole point of a cbo
trust me i've tried plenty of cbo's at
ten dollars a day a hundred
a thousand ten thousand dollars some of
them with just one ad set
just to see how it would optimize i was
like okay well if i launch a thousand
dollar a day cbo and it just has one ad
set
is it gonna optimize the exact same as
just a regular ad set
not at the campaign budget level right
what's the actual difference
if the spend is the same in the same
location but the budgeting type is
different
ad set budget versus cbo what's the
difference so
again for my conclusion start with a
minimum of three ad sets i've been
saying that for over a year
because that's what works consistently
ninety percent of the time for me i've
tried plenty with two i've gotten two
working but that's usually the best just
for retargeting
so low budget retargeting cbo's i
usually like to separate retargeting
into individual ad sets but
that's getting a little bit more into
the specifics we can tok about later so
if you want to get fancy if if you want
to get fancy
uh two plus creatives at the ad level
that's some more flexibility so if you
had let's say like this
seven ad sets inside of here and each of
these had two creatives under it
now the amount of variables that tree
branch that branches off into each thing
you could change
becomes super super large because let's
say um
like this one right here that got two
purchases and spent 50 bucks
what if it has two videos but both those
purchases came from one video and
they're both spending like half the
budget
in terms of the videos on the ad level
well you could turn one of them off so
you can start modifying things without
actually having to kill an entire ad set
you can kill
ads underneath that ad set so obviously
you get more micro with that focus but
this is a good basic way to start now as
promised the attik on safety people
always ask about
what do i do if i get disabled how do i
prevent being disabled it's a very very
in-depth question
it's something where there's a lot of
structures in fact it led to me seeking
out
what ultimately ended up costing sixty
seven thousand dollars to build out an
entire system
with many servers many proxies three
different proxy server company
having dozens and dozens of ad accounts
on a dozen verified business managers
across 10 plus different profiles
data backups dozens of stores custom
checkouts it led me down a crazy path
this rabbit hole that literally just
continued
to try and figure out how to just one
simple question
how to not get disabled on facebook and
it's so stupid because facebook
sometimes like for an example i skilled
up an ad
an ad account i had four of them four ad
accounts for this one store i was
warming up all of them there was a main
one that was spending like 35 000 a day
the other was spending 10 on its way up
to 15. i had access to 120 000 a day
worth of spend based off all the budget
approvals that i had gotten
and i did all this in like two weeks and
so i scaled up
fast facebook doesn't like that so i was
at the point now where i was spending
almost two million dollars a month is
kind of the trajectory it was on
and they took me down it was ridiculous
so facebook
if you try to spend too much money
they'll take you down if you launch so
many ads right away on a new ad account
with a new personal
they take you down if you break a policy
that's not even really a policy they're
gonna take it out like
they'll take you down for reasons i
haven't even ever figured out so it's
pretty ridiculous so
from an ad account safety perspective
just a general safety perspective
the further time goes on i've notiked
the stricter this gets this just gets
worse and worse and worse it's caused me
to literally throw my hands in the air
and just
stop running ads on facebook for
multiple months at a time
and that's what sucks is the income from
it used to be with my ecommerce stuff
just so so consistent
it was absolutely phenomenal and year
over year the income people are sale
courses is the income
by the way check out the new beta
program below it's absolutely not the
case it's
literally not even a comparison because
when you can scale something super well
with e-commerce
those numbers get so ridiculous so so
fast
right that's what's awesome about it the
problem is now
with facebook you have to build so
slowly otherwise they're probably just
going to chop you down like a tree
and that's what's not fun about it and
that's why it's caused a lot of
frustration for me it's caused me to
look elsewhere for different things
build out these entire systems with
proxies and servers which is just so
annoying
and costly might i add but trying to
make sure that you can
literally just run ads on a platform
that should allow you to run ads there
shouldn't be any issues so
as you're starting make no sudden
movements on a new ad account the way i
like to think about it
it's like you're approaching an animal
in the wild don't spook them
so when you open a new personal this is
what i was toking about over here
let's say you're not on facebook so you
open a personal facebook for yourself
and then instantly open a business
facebook
don't even launch ads for probably a
week because as that personal is new
you need to build out the personal
profile this is what i've notiked when i
try to buy
accounts that are brand new it doesn't
work you get a real person to set up a
facebook account
they instantly open the business and
there's just issue after issue after
issue after verification after disable
it's so so annoying so make no sudden
movements move really really slow
and what that actually means okay if you
really really want to start
in a consistent manner let's go back up
here where did i put this
cbo's a lot more modifiable versus just
one ad set so when you're starting
pick one or the other focus on either
starting a cbo
or just an ad set i wouldn't recommend
launching three ad sets having a 50
a day cbo when you're starting from
scratch you need to pick one thing
and then let that run for probably five
to seven days just to start warming up
the ad account
hitting that spending threshold for a
little while and having some amount of
consistency otherwise it's probably just
gonna get disabled basically right away
and it's never fun
oh and the camera died why am i not
surprised so that kind of sums up the ad
set versus cbo a little bit about ad
account safety
some basic things you can do as well
back up your data you can put two pixels
on your store multi-pixel
you can use a trackify there's multiple
third-party applications that allow you
to have multiple pixels plus what people
don't even realize if you know how to
code or you can ask shopify to do it or
you can watch a basic youtube tutorial
it shows you
you can go put the pixel into your
headers you can add pixels into the
store if you want
just like any other normal website you
can go in and edit that code
so have another ad account now if you
really want to be secure have that ad
account being a different business
manager
under a completely different profile so
you can have multiple people involved
now in terms of facebook profiles that's
a good way to add another layer of
security that's like the most
basic form of backing it up like i just
mentioned um like you can go through a
whole sixty seven thousand dollar
structure set up
it doesn't cost that much to build it
and like actually operate it
like for me to operate that it was
probably costing me like maybe three
grand a month but it allowed me to spend
huge huge amounts of money so it worked
phenomenally and that's that's why like
you know
trying so many things i try so much
stuff that literally just doesn't work
like there was a
it was related to the facebook feedback
score there was a service i've tried
many of them
that was ultimately at the level of
scale that i needed it was twelve
thousand dollars a month that's just
what the service costed i've had
software's
multiple software's at the same time one
for like 2500 one for five grand
running all these things to help keep
everything healthy all the levels
healthy
even though i wasn't having feedback
score issues but
making sure that that feedback scores at
like the top of the threshold
just helps you not get disabled so it's
kind of ridiculous with facebook that's
super annoying but you know we're going
to add some more in-depth structures
into the beta group because it was
requested so
right now if you guys are not familiar
with what's going on inside the new
performance drop shipping
beta group yeah we tok about facebook
ads we tok about uh tik-tok ads but
we're more so focused on making sure
that you can drop ship forever if you
want to
not in terms of that being the goal but
in terms of making sure you can drop
ship correctly with the right suppliers
the right packaging the right email
sequences
so that customers are not upset you're
not getting chargebacks you're not being
like all these other e-commerce people
literally half the people who teach are
on the match list because they don't
know how to run e-commerce stores
and now they can't and that's why i'm
trying to help dropshippers avoid that
because
let's say you have issues with the
payment processor because your shipping
time is long and your products are crap
well now you're gonna have issues with
the processor okay they shut you down
well i'll just go to another one it
doesn't work like that they're gonna ask
you a real merchant is going to need
your processing history statements
they're going to need bank account
statements and they're going to see
all the red flags high refunds or high
chargebacks all of these are going to be
determining factors and if they'll
actually approve you
and a real processor has so many more
restrictions now ever since covid
started
because they had so many issues across
all the all of the different businesses
that they run
many merchants have huge divisions with
restaurants they have online companies
which are typically
the higher risk side of things they have
i mean just like
millions of different companies right
under their mid that's what it's called
for the processor
and they have to mitigate the risk
that's up to them to manage so
they definitely take that all into
consideration when you're getting
approved for a processor
and that's why just that's one little
thing that's super important inside of
drop shipping or any e-commerce
is making sure that you have a healthy
payment processor so we tok about all
that inside the performance dropshipping
program which is not officially launched
yet with the beta group out if that's
