How To Redirect 404 Error To Home Page ✅ Non Shopify URL To Home Page
Welcome to my YouTube channel! In this tutorial, I will show you how to redirect a 404 error to the homepage or a non-Shopify URL to the homepage. If you are looking for easy Shopify tips, tricks, and guidelines, then you should continue watching this video. Let's get started!
What is a 404 error?
The HTTP error 404, more commonly called a 404 error, means that the page you are trying to open could not be found on the server. This is a client-side incident, which means either the page has been deleted or moved, and the URL has not been modified accordingly, or you have misspelled the URL or typed the wrong URL. For example, if this is my product page URL but I type it with any misspelling like edit travel, if I click on the enter button, it will show a 404 page not found error. That means this page has been deleted, removed, or does not exist in my shop.
How to redirect a 404 error to the homepage?
To redirect a 404 error to the homepage, I am going to my Shopify admin panel and clicking on the online store. Then, I click on the action button and select edit code. Next, I open the layout folder and click on the theme liquid file to open it. Here, I add the following code:
{% if template == '404' %}
window.location.href = '/';
{% endif %}
After adding this code, I click on the save button. Now, if someone types in the wrong URL or misspells a URL, the 404 error page will automatically redirect to the homepage.
In this tutorial, we learned how to redirect a 404 error to the homepage or a non-Shopify URL to the homepage. By following these easy steps, you can ensure that your customers have a seamless browsing experience on your website.
