00:01:29 00:01:32 show up within any text ad if you want
00:01:31 00:01:34 to get a little bit more specific
00:01:32 00:01:36 you can show your extension at the
00:01:34 00:01:38 campaign or ad group level and honestly
00:01:36 00:01:39 i can't really give you a right or wrong
00:01:38 00:01:40 way to do this
00:01:39 00:01:42 it depends on how your account is
00:01:40 00:01:44 structured and what promos your company
00:01:42 00:01:46 is running i'll go through one example
00:01:44 00:01:47 covering each level but for now i just
00:01:46 00:01:48 want to get through
00:01:47 00:01:50 one setup so i'm going to leave it at
00:01:48 00:01:51 the account level i did say about a
00:01:50 00:01:52 minute ago
00:01:51 00:01:53 we're going to pretend we're creating
00:01:52 00:01:55 this for the first time but if you have
00:01:53 00:01:56 a few promotion extensions created
00:01:55 00:01:58 and you want to add them to either
00:01:56 00:01:59 different campaigns or ad groups you can
00:01:58 00:02:01 use
00:01:59 00:02:02 existing extensions once they're already
00:02:01 00:02:03 created next you can choose what
00:02:02 00:02:06 occasion
00:02:03 00:02:06 this extension may be and here we see a
00:02:06 00:02:08 variety
00:02:06 00:02:11 of different occasions that really
00:02:08 00:02:13 satisfy a variety of different events
00:02:11 00:02:15 all throughout the year and google does
00:02:13 00:02:15 understand that sometimes you have a

00:02:15 00:02:19 just to have a sale there's no specific
00:02:17 00:02:20 occasion or reason why you're having it

00:03:52 00:03:56 discount there we can see
00:03:53 00:03:58 this item is 50 off very straightforward
00:03:56 00:04:00 let's switch it up from monetary
00:03:58 00:04:02 discount to percent discount if i just
00:04:00 00:04:05 add in a number we're saying
00:04:02 00:04:06 this item is 25 off switching to the
00:04:05 00:04:08 third option
00:04:06 00:04:10 and that's up to monetary discount it
00:04:08 00:04:12 remember the dollar amount i originally
00:04:10 00:04:12 had for just monetary discount and this
00:04:12 00:04:14 one
00:04:12 00:04:15 will be beneficial for a range of
00:04:14 00:04:17 products and i say it's better for a
00:04:15 00:04:19 range is that there could be a variety
00:04:17 00:04:20 of different products for a specific
00:04:19 00:04:22 category that are on sale
00:04:20 00:04:23 but due to the price points of some of
00:04:22 00:04:25 the products or potentially
00:04:23 00:04:27 the percentages off for certain items
00:04:25 00:04:29 will vary saying that you can get up to
00:04:27 00:04:31 fifty dollars could be very appealing
00:04:29 00:04:33 maybe there's only one item within that
00:04:31 00:04:35 product category that is actually fifty
00:04:33 00:04:36 dollars off and all the other monetary
00:04:35 00:04:38 discounts are less but you're still
00:04:36 00:04:39 telling the truth within those range of
00:04:38 00:04:41 products
00:04:39 00:04:43 you can get up to fifty dollars off so
00:04:41 00:04:45 there's a way to make your offers seem
00:04:43 00:04:46 more appealing depending on how you're
00:04:45 00:04:48 wording your promo and then going to the

00:07:11 00:07:14 don't care how many people share it they
00:07:13 00:07:16 want as many sales as possible
00:07:14 00:07:18 if that's the case that's when we
00:07:16 00:07:20 strongly recommend making sure that this
00:07:18 00:07:21 partikular promo code detail is also on
00:07:20 00:07:23 your landing page
00:07:21 00:07:25 it builds more trust with the user and
00:07:23 00:07:26 it verifies the offer that you promised
00:07:25 00:07:28 within your ad
00:07:26 00:07:29 less confusion and typically higher
00:07:28 00:07:30 conversion rates that you're verifying

00:07:30 00:07:34 before we move on i want to tok about a
00:07:32 00:07:35 few limitations that may answer some
00:07:34 00:07:37 questions you have
00:07:35 00:07:39 first we're looking at the promo types
00:07:37 00:07:41 they're all discounts
00:07:39 00:07:43 so i know a few people have asked me if
00:07:41 00:07:44 you can do just a standard price point
00:07:43 00:07:46 calling out that hey
00:07:44 00:07:47 this product is only and blank and
00:07:46 00:07:48 you're calling out the exact price of
00:07:47 00:07:50 the product
00:07:48 00:07:52 you cannot do that with this extension
00:07:50 00:07:54 even if that is the sale price
00:07:52 00:07:55 you have to call a price point off or a
00:07:54 00:07:57 percent off
00:07:55 00:07:59 if you want to call out a singular price
00:07:57 00:08:00 of a product even if it is for sale
00:07:59 00:08:02 that's when you should use a price
00:08:00 00:08:03 extension and if you want to learn more

00:08:03 00:08:07 this video i previously recorded right
00:08:05 00:08:08 here now the second limitation will be
00:08:07 00:08:10 on the promotion details
00:08:08 00:08:12 you see i can only choose one i can't
00:08:10 00:08:13 add an additional layer to it so there
00:08:12 00:08:16 are some times where
00:08:13 00:08:17 you could use the on orders over but the
00:08:16 00:08:19 user still needs a promo code
00:08:17 00:08:21 you can't do that you have to pick one
00:08:19 00:08:23 or the other so there's another option
00:08:21 00:08:24 for you to potentially test to see which
00:08:23 00:08:26 one users will like more
00:08:24 00:08:28 and which one will eventually lead to
00:08:26 00:08:30 more conversions in my opinion
00:08:28 00:08:31 it's good that you can only choose one
00:08:30 00:08:32 because the promotion doesn't really
00:08:31 00:08:34 seem that good
00:08:32 00:08:35 if you have to spend a certain amount
00:08:34 00:08:37 and then you're making me work and
00:08:35 00:08:38 entering a code as well
00:08:37 00:08:40 but i can't assume that's right or wrong
00:08:38 00:08:41 for all businesses you just have to do
00:08:40 00:08:42 what's right for you but now we can move
00:08:41 00:08:44 on to the next part
00:08:42 00:08:46 and before we do that i'm going to
00:08:44 00:08:48 expand the advanced options right away
00:08:46 00:08:50 moving on to the first set of dates your
00:08:48 00:08:52 display promotion dates
00:08:50 00:08:53 this is going to be when the actual
00:08:52 00:08:55 promotion is taking place
00:08:53 00:08:57 you could have some evergreen promos and
00:08:55 00:08:58 that's fine there are certain things you
00:08:57 00:09:00 can run continuously
00:08:58 00:09:02 but we did tok about specific occasions
00:09:00 00:09:03 earlier so certain holidays or events
00:09:02 00:09:05 like black friday
00:09:03 00:09:07 we know when those dates are coming
00:09:05 00:09:08 every year other events are limited so
00:09:07 00:09:10 let's say
00:09:08 00:09:11 in this example i'm creating right now
00:09:10 00:09:12 this sale is only good to the end of the
00:09:11 00:09:13 month
00:09:12 00:09:15 i can go to the calendar choose a
00:09:13 00:09:17 specific end date and now if you look in
00:09:15 00:09:20 the ad preview we're telling users
00:09:17 00:09:21 this promo ends on july 31st so maybe it
00:09:20 00:09:22 wasn't the whole month
00:09:21 00:09:24 maybe it's just the last week of the
00:09:22 00:09:26 month and then the preview updates again
00:09:24 00:09:28 now you can't see it if i go back to the
00:09:26 00:09:29 start date
00:09:28 00:09:32 you can see i'm recording this video on
00:09:29 00:09:32 the 18th if i launch this extension
00:09:32 00:09:34 right now
00:09:32 00:09:36 it will start showing and since i
00:09:34 00:09:37 created it the week before the valid
00:09:36 00:09:39 promotion dates
00:09:37 00:09:41 people who click on that ad won't be
00:09:39 00:09:43 able to use this offer but it could be a
00:09:41 00:09:45 good extension to build awareness for a
00:09:43 00:09:47 partikular upcoming sale or promotion
00:09:45 00:09:49 if you don't want your extension to show
00:09:47 00:09:52 up before the sale is actually going
00:09:49 00:09:53 on that is why i clicked on the advanced
00:09:52 00:09:54 options section because there is another
00:09:53 00:09:56 set of dates below
00:09:54 00:09:58 this is when this extension will
00:09:56 00:09:59 actually show up so i can choose to
00:09:58 00:10:01 change the dates
00:09:59 00:10:03 to match the actual dates of the
00:10:01 00:10:04 promotion and if i want to get even more
00:10:03 00:10:06 specific
00:10:04 00:10:08 we can update the ad schedule very
00:10:06 00:10:09 similar to how we can already do ad
00:10:08 00:10:11 scheduling within google ads and we do
00:10:09 00:10:11 have another video on that one right

00:10:11 00:10:16 so to repeat your displayed promo dates
00:10:14 00:10:17 are going to be the dates of the actual
00:10:16 00:10:19 sale or promotion
00:10:17 00:10:20 under the advanced options the second

00:10:20 00:10:24 is going to be when it will actually
00:10:22 00:10:25 appear within the ad
00:10:24 00:10:28 if you're happy with how your extension
00:10:25 00:10:29 looks you can go back down and save it
00:10:28 00:10:32 and if we scroll back down in the main
00:10:29 00:10:34 extension section there we see we now
00:10:32 00:10:35 have promotions as i promised earlier in
00:10:34 00:10:37 the video i want to show you a few
00:10:35 00:10:38 examples of how you may use promotion

00:10:52 00:10:56 off select items store wide and that one
00:10:54 00:10:57 would be perfect for the account level
00:10:56 00:10:58 because it can cover
00:10:57 00:11:01 all of the campaigns now even though
00:10:58 00:11:03 there are select items up to 50
00:11:01 00:11:04 off maybe everything in the men's
00:11:03 00:11:06 department is just 20
00:11:04 00:11:09 off so i can create and attach this
00:11:06 00:11:12 extension just at the campaign level
00:11:09 00:11:13 so no matter which ad group a user is
00:11:12 00:11:14 seeing my ad
00:11:13 00:11:16 they're going to see the same promo
00:11:14 00:11:16 extension whether they're looking for
00:11:16 00:11:20 jeans
00:11:16 00:11:20 20 off pants 20 off shirts 20 off suits
00:11:20 00:11:23 20
00:11:20 00:11:24 off underwear 20 off if someone sees an
00:11:23 00:11:26 ad
00:11:24 00:11:27 from any keyword under my men's campaign
00:11:26 00:11:30 they will not see
00:11:27 00:11:31 the 50 off select item storewide promo
00:11:30 00:11:34 extension
00:11:31 00:11:35 any deeper level extension will override
00:11:34 00:11:37 the higher level extension
00:11:35 00:11:39 and the same thing could be said about
00:11:37 00:11:40 the ad group level if we add this

00:11:44 00:11:48 anyone seeing an ad belonging to this
00:11:47 00:11:50 partikular ad group
00:11:48 00:11:51 won't see the campaign level extension
00:11:50 00:11:54 and they also won't see
00:11:51 00:11:57 the account level extension while the 20
00:11:54 00:11:58 off extension could be appealing i may
00:11:57 00:12:00 want to test out calling out a bigger
00:11:58 00:12:01 price point because seeing a hundred
00:12:00 00:12:03 dollars off
00:12:01 00:12:05 could be more appealing than just seeing
00:12:03 00:12:06 20 percent off if you want to test those
00:12:05 00:12:09 out you will have to recreate
00:12:06 00:12:11 this 20 off message at the ad group
00:12:09 00:12:11 level so they can both test against each
00:12:11 00:12:13 other just
00:12:11 00:12:15 in the men's suits ad group so even
00:12:13 00:12:17 though this is one example
00:12:15 00:12:18 hopefully you can see how you can tier
00:12:17 00:12:20 your promo extensions
00:12:18 00:12:22 depending on the structure of your
00:12:20 00:12:23 account and as i said earlier it's
00:12:22 00:12:24 really going to depend on how your
00:12:23 00:12:26 account
00:12:24 00:12:28 is structured but most importantly the
00:12:26 00:12:28 sales or discounts you are offering at
00:12:28 00:12:29 the time
00:12:28 00:12:31 most likely you're not going to have a
00:12:29 00:12:32 promo extension at the campaign and ad
00:12:31 00:12:34 group levels
00:12:32 00:12:35 for every single level within your
00:12:34 00:12:36 account it's just good to know that you
00:12:35 00:12:39 have the ability
00:12:36 00:12:41 to get a specific to the ad group level
00:12:39 00:12:42 and call out very specific promos when
00:12:41 00:12:44 the time is right
00:12:42 00:12:46 and to wrap this video up i wanted to go
00:12:44 00:12:48 over five reasons
00:12:46 00:12:49 why your promo extensions may get
00:12:48 00:12:51 disapproved and most of these reasons
00:12:49 00:12:52 are going to be pretty familiar if
00:12:51 00:12:54 you've been running
00:12:52 00:12:55 search campaigns for a long time the
00:12:54 00:12:58 first reason is if you're
00:12:55 00:13:00 violating any editorial policies you
00:12:58 00:13:01 have some obvious misspellings you're
00:13:00 00:13:02 adding unnecessary symbols to your
00:13:01 00:13:04 extension
00:13:02 00:13:05 or potentially excessive use of
00:13:04 00:13:07 capitalization
00:13:05 00:13:08 another common reason is the use of
00:13:07 00:13:10 trademarks within your extension
00:13:08 00:13:12 now odds are if your e-commerce company
00:13:10 00:13:13 running promos or sales for specific
00:13:12 00:13:15 brands
