As a small business, you can't rely on your brand to help you sell your products or services like large brands can. You also probably don't have the budget to build brand awareness. So, you have to approach things differently, and it all comes down to the offer.
Let's create an example Facebook ad campaign specifically for a small business. First, we'll go to Ads Manager and click on the create button. For the campaign objective, I recommend using the conversion objective. Your Facebook ads need to deliver results and bring money back into the business. So, you can either directly go for purchases or go for leads, depending on your business.
To use the conversions objective, you'll need to install the Facebook pixel on your website if you haven't already. You can check out the link in the video description for a tutorial on how to install the Facebook pixel.
At the ad set level, select the conversion event you want to optimize for. If you want purchases, select purchase. If you want leads, select leads. Set a budget that you are comfortable with, but don't spend too little that it won't make a difference.
Next, let's talk about targeting. There are two types of small businesses: local and national/international. For local businesses, it's best to select the demographic data that describes your customers. If your area of operation is limited, make sure to set a smaller radius.
For national or international businesses, I recommend using a lookalike audience based on your previous customers.
