Shopify - Tips To Change Your Domain Name Without Crashing!
Welcome to the first Shopify tutorial in English. In this tutorial, we will take a real example of an online shop of one of my friends, Joanne Peratoner, who is an artist selling paintings. We will go through all the steps to create your online shop with Shopify from scratch, and I will give you all my advice and tips to do it the right way.
Connecting Your Shopify Store with Your Own Domain Name:
To begin, we need to customize the current domain name, which is joanpartner.myshopify.com, to a subdomain, shop.joanpartner.com, so that we do not communicate the original name to customers. This can be easily done with a DNS configuration.
1. Go to your Shopify store and select domains from the left-hand menu.
2. Choose the option to connect an existing domain name.
3. Create a CNAME pointing to shops.myshopify.com.
4. Wait for 10-15 minutes for the DNS to spread.
5. Check the new DNS with a tool like dnschecker.org.
6. Verify the connection on your Shopify store.
I recommend using the third option to connect an existing domain name because it is better to have a separate registrar for your domain name and services. This way, if anything happens to your Shopify account, you can still redirect your domain name to another page or server.
Congratulations, you have successfully connected your Shopify store with your own domain name! If you have any questions, drop a message below the video or check out my website for more tips and advice on this configuration. Thank you for watching and have a nice day!
