00:00:12 00:00:17 perspective how now is as good a time as
00:00:15 00:00:20 any to be starting your Amazon FBA
00:00:17 00:00:21 business but the question remains well
00:00:20 00:00:23 how do I go about doing my product
00:00:21 00:00:26 research because the fact of the matter
00:00:23 00:00:28 is that there are a number of products
00:00:26 00:00:30 where their demand is going to be skewed
00:00:28 00:00:33 they're either gonna be in higher demand
00:00:30 00:00:35 or in lower demand at this time because
00:00:33 00:00:37 of the pandemic so we're not denying
00:00:35 00:00:40 that there are gonna be products like
00:00:37 00:00:43 toilet paper and hand sanitizer and face
00:00:40 00:00:45 masks and Lysol wipes these things are
00:00:43 00:00:46 flying off the shelves and so when
00:00:45 00:00:48 you're doing a product research you
00:00:46 00:00:50 really have to take that into account
00:00:48 00:00:52 and not just think like wow these guys
00:00:50 00:00:55 are such hot selling items I'm gonna go
00:00:52 00:00:56 and sell that so that's what I want to
00:00:55 00:00:58 share with you today how to do product
00:00:56 00:01:00 research a very simple thing that you
00:00:58 00:01:02 just have to include in your product
00:01:00 00:01:04 research to give you the confidence to
00:01:02 00:01:07 move forward with your Amazon business
00:01:04 00:01:09 during this pandemic with the confidence
00:01:07 00:01:11 in knowing that your product is not just
00:01:09 00:01:13 a hot item that's selling right now
00:01:11 00:01:16 because of current world events but
00:01:13 00:01:18 something that has longevity and has
00:01:16 00:01:20 history so let me hop behind my computer
00:01:18 00:01:22 to share that with you alright guys so
00:01:20 00:01:24 first things first is logging into your
00:01:22 00:01:26 jungle Scout account and there's two
00:01:24 00:01:29 places that you can check so if you
00:01:26 00:01:31 navigate to the keywords section here at
00:01:29 00:01:33 the keyword tool and then go to keywords
00:01:31 00:01:34 Scout this is where you're gonna go
00:01:33 00:01:36 first
00:01:34 00:01:39 so what when you're doing your Amazon
00:01:36 00:01:41 product research usually how you do it
00:01:39 00:01:42 is you find you kind of make a list of
00:01:41 00:01:44 ten products that are viable product
00:01:42 00:01:46 opportunities and then you start to
00:01:44 00:01:49 narrow down that list so when you have
00:01:46 00:01:51 some products in mind you can then input
00:01:49 00:01:54 their main keyword here in the keyword
00:01:51 00:01:55 scout so that you can see the historical
00:01:54 00:01:57 sales data and this is going to be
00:01:55 00:01:59 really important at this time so for
00:01:57 00:02:01 example I recently just did a search for
00:01:59 00:02:03 hand sanitizer because you and I both
00:02:01 00:02:05 know that this hand sanitizer it is
00:02:03 00:02:07 flying off the shelves people are buying
00:02:05 00:02:08 it left and right I don't even really
00:02:07 00:02:10 know why they're buying it more than
00:02:08 00:02:13 soap but apparently
00:02:10 00:02:14 and so when you click on this it's going
00:02:13 00:02:17 to tell us here in the last 30 days
00:02:14 00:02:19 sales have gone up by two hundred and
00:02:17 00:02:21 seventy four percent and in the last
00:02:19 00:02:24 nine ninety days six hundred and forty
00:02:21 00:02:27 four percent that is a lot so that is a
00:02:24 00:02:29 little bit fishy and so we can see here
00:02:27 00:02:31 that usually you know sales aren't that
00:02:29 00:02:33 exciting people aren't you know too
00:02:31 00:02:36 excited about hand sanitizer but then
00:02:33 00:02:38 boom right here from the start of twenty
00:02:36 00:02:41 twenty it goes up and up and up and up
00:02:38 00:02:44 so this is what you don't want to see
00:02:41 00:02:46 when you are searching for your product
00:02:44 00:02:48 on jungle scout so when you have your
00:02:46 00:02:50 products list search for all of those
00:02:48 00:02:53 product keywords here on this keyword
00:02:50 00:02:56 scout and if you see a huge boost in
00:02:53 00:02:58 sales in basically all of 2020 and
00:02:56 00:03:00 that's when we've been experiencing the
00:02:58 00:03:03 corona virus pandemic then that is an
00:03:00 00:03:06 indication to you that sales are skewed
00:03:03 00:03:08 now you might see it that yeah there's
00:03:06 00:03:09 been some ups here some downs some ups
00:03:08 00:03:11 some downs
00:03:09 00:03:13 and this is normal it's part of a high
00:03:11 00:03:15 it just depends on the product but for
00:03:13 00:03:18 this product is very obvious that
00:03:15 00:03:20 something happened in these months to
00:03:18 00:03:23 make those sales jump so let's just do
00:03:20 00:03:24 another example here let's just do
00:03:23 00:03:32 something that's probably not in demand
00:03:24 00:03:35 so for example swimsuit maybe so I'm
00:03:32 00:03:37 expecting swimsuits it's gonna be
00:03:35 00:03:39 popular during the summer months so
00:03:37 00:03:40 that's probably what we should expect to
00:03:39 00:03:44 see when we're looking at the keyword
00:03:40 00:03:47 history so as we can see here this shows
00:03:44 00:03:51 historical data right so this is 2018
00:03:47 00:03:53 2019 so we can see here our sales start
00:03:51 00:03:55 to jump up higher from the beginning of
00:03:53 00:03:58 the year basically till the end of
00:03:55 00:04:00 summer winter months are pretty low and
00:03:58 00:04:04 then they Brazil but you can see here in
00:04:00 00:04:06 2020 there was no skyrocket in sales so
00:04:04 00:04:09 I know that when I'm doing my product
00:04:06 00:04:13 research for swimming swimsuit that's
00:04:09 00:04:14 the keyword that you know I it's there's
00:04:13 00:04:17 nothing unexpected here I can feel
00:04:14 00:04:19 confident knowing that this sales
00:04:17 00:04:21 haven't skyrocketed they haven't gone
00:04:19 00:04:23 down because of the coronavirus it's
00:04:21 00:04:30 pretty much normal
00:04:23 00:04:32 so January 2020 July March yeah so you
00:04:30 00:04:35 can just see here at Durrani or 2019
00:04:32 00:04:40 let's compare that to January 2020 s so
00:04:35 00:04:43 this was 8,000 521 searches and in 2020
00:04:40 00:04:45 roughly the same thing so sales are
00:04:43 00:04:47 pretty much the same so we can see that
00:04:45 00:04:49 this is a seasonal product as you can
00:04:47 00:04:52 see here the summer months
00:04:49 00:04:54 definitely more searches and in the
00:04:52 00:04:56 winter months not so much so this is a
00:04:54 00:04:59 product that I can feel more confident
00:04:56 00:05:01 about and the sales increase for the
00:04:59 00:05:03 last 90 days is probably just because we
00:05:01 00:05:06 are entering into those summer months so
00:05:03 00:05:08 that's one place to be lucky now the
00:05:06 00:05:10 second place is when you go to find
00:05:08 00:05:13 products and an opportunity finder so
00:05:10 00:05:15 and then we can look for a product so
00:05:13 00:05:18 for example n95 masks these are the
00:05:15 00:05:20 masks that protect against the virus we
00:05:18 00:05:24 can see here that they have
00:05:20 00:05:28 significantly increased in volume so in
00:05:24 00:05:32 December only 528 units sold in March
00:05:28 00:05:34 this skyrocketed to 8,000 547 and in
00:05:32 00:05:39 April which we just started April
00:05:34 00:05:42 already at 6000 288 so we can see that
00:05:39 00:05:44 this product is trending upwards we can
00:05:42 00:05:46 also see the search volume for this
00:05:44 00:05:49 product so we can see that you know is
00:05:46 00:05:51 moderate search volume but it keeps on
00:05:49 00:05:54 going up and we can see the average
00:05:51 00:05:57 price here for the product as well so it
00:05:54 00:05:59 actually was a higher price it seems for
00:05:57 00:06:01 this specific product in December than
00:05:59 00:06:03 it is now even though there is more
00:06:01 00:06:04 demand now which is kind of crazy and
00:06:03 00:06:07 then usually there should be some
00:06:04 00:06:10 seasonality but there's not enough data
00:06:07 00:06:12 on the specific product SKU now the next
00:06:10 00:06:15 thing I want to show you is Google
00:06:12 00:06:17 Trends so Google Trends is free you can
00:06:15 00:06:19 just type it in on Google and you will
00:06:17 00:06:21 find it and here you can type in the
00:06:19 00:06:24 keyword for a product that you're trying
00:06:21 00:06:27 to inquire about so again let's just say
00:06:24 00:06:29 face mask and let's just see what comes
00:06:27 00:06:32 up so again we're expecting a big spike
00:06:29 00:06:35 here so yes indeed we do see a spike and
00:06:32 00:06:37 Google Trends actually can estimate
00:06:35 00:06:38 where the
00:06:37 00:06:41 are going so they're estimating that
00:06:38 00:06:43 it's going up and up and up and so the
00:06:41 00:06:45 cool thing about jungle Scout as is that
00:06:43 00:06:47 all of this data is specifically for
00:06:45 00:06:50 Amazon which is really important for you
00:06:47 00:06:52 as Amazon seller because on Google
00:06:50 00:06:54 Trends it's not just searching for the
00:06:52 00:06:57 trends on Amazon it's searching for web
00:06:54 00:06:58 searches for YouTube searches for Google
00:06:57 00:07:02 Shopping all of these different things
00:06:58 00:07:04 but really tiknically we're mostly
00:07:02 00:07:06 interested in what is selling on Amazon
00:07:04 00:07:08 because that's where your consumers are
00:07:06 00:07:11 there they are shopping on Amazon so
00:07:08 00:07:13 although Google Trends has really
00:07:11 00:07:16 valuable information I really do love to
00:07:13 00:07:19 use it as a resource I like using jungle
00:07:16 00:07:22 Scout because it's specifically tailored
00:07:19 00:07:25 to the searches and the sales on Amazon
00:07:22 00:07:27 so let's just do one last example here
00:07:25 00:07:29 for another product that probably
00:07:27 00:07:31 wouldn't have as much demand and let's
00:07:29 00:07:33 just do waist trainer because I've been
00:07:31 00:07:36 experiencing quite a bit of demand from
00:07:33 00:07:39 my product lately and you can see here
00:07:36 00:07:43 that waist trainer actually has kind of
00:07:39 00:07:47 how to peak let's just see if we can do
00:07:43 00:07:49 2014 2004 to present so you can see in
00:07:47 00:07:51 2004 not many people were searching for
00:07:49 00:07:56 waist trainers and then there was this
00:07:51 00:08:00 really big peak and 2015 and then things
00:07:56 00:08:04 kind of dwindled down from there in 2018
00:08:00 00:08:08 there was a bit of a peak and then
00:08:04 00:08:11 things have kind of been pretty much
00:08:08 00:08:13 consistent so anyways this is just
00:08:11 00:08:14 really interesting information so Google
00:08:13 00:08:16 Trends that's where you can find this
00:08:14 00:08:19 and you can also compare it to different
00:08:16 00:08:20 things and then also jungle scout so
00:08:19 00:08:22 make sure you are searching for this
00:08:20 00:08:25 history because that's what's going to
00:08:22 00:08:28 help you to prevent from moving forward
00:08:25 00:08:30 with a product that is just a hot
00:08:28 00:08:32 product right now or maybe the opposite
00:08:30 00:08:34 maybe the sales are just down right now
00:08:32 00:08:37 because of this partikular situation
00:08:34 00:08:41 which my pieces of advice is if a
00:08:37 00:08:43 product is not weather proof in a way
00:08:41 00:08:45 you know like a lot of products may not
00:08:43 00:08:47 survive this pandemic people really stop
00:08:45 00:08:50 spending but I want to find a product
00:08:47 00:08:52 that people are still buying you know
00:08:50 00:08:54 even when things get tough because
00:08:52 00:08:56 that's going to secure my business a bit
00:08:54 00:08:58 more so hopefully that was helpful for
00:08:56 00:08:59 you guys just a couple tips that you
00:08:58 00:09:02 need to make sure you're incorporating
00:08:59 00:09:03 into your product research truth of the
00:09:02 00:09:05 matter is you should already be doing
00:09:03 00:09:07 this stuff a lot of times I see people
00:09:05 00:09:10 kind of skipping it because it's just an
00:09:07 00:09:11 extra step but now is really important
00:09:10 00:09:14 to make sure you're checking that
00:09:11 00:09:16 historical data so jungle scout if you
00:09:14 00:09:18 guys haven't started using it is such an
00:09:16 00:09:21 asset for you and your Amazon business
00:09:18 00:09:22 whether you're just getting started and
00:09:21 00:09:25 you're just starting to research
00:09:22 00:09:27 products it could help you identify a
00:09:25 00:09:28 golden nugget product as I call it help
00:09:27 00:09:30 you find a product that maybe you
00:09:28 00:09:33 wouldn't be able to have found on your
00:09:30 00:09:34 own just by browsing Amazon it's also
00:09:33 00:09:36 great for people who are already selling
00:09:34 00:09:38 on Amazon because they have so many
00:09:36 00:09:40 different tools to help you with your
00:09:38 00:09:43 existing Amazon business so for example
00:09:40 00:09:45 they've just launched a listing tool to
00:09:43 00:09:47 help you to build out your Amazon
00:09:45 00:09:50 listing to make it better and improve it
00:09:47 00:09:52 so it can be an A+ listing so that when
00:09:50 00:09:53 people click on your listing that's like
00:09:52 00:09:55 the hardest part just to get them to
00:09:53 00:09:57 your listing but then to convert those
00:09:55 00:10:00 clicks into buyers you need to have a
00:09:57 00:10:02 solid listing and so there's a new tool
