How to Setup Google Analytics on Shopify | Google Analytics 4 Update (Beginners Guide)

google has recently released google analytiks for and, at the time of this recording, you can no longer simply add a small snippet of code to the preference sections at the back end of your shopify store. hey, team stuart here, i hope everyone is well. today we're going to jump right into this beginner's tutorial and walk you through exactly how you can set up google analytiks on your shopify store now. this is a relatively straightforward process that will allow you to measure and record both website and visitor behavior on your shopify store. okay, guys, now, before we get stuck in, consider subscribing if you haven't done so already, and that way you'll stay updated with actionable videos and tutorials designed to equip you with the skills, knowledge and tools to grow your small business online. and with that happy note, let's go ahead and install google analytiks on your shopify [Music] store. okay, so the first thing we need to do is actually head over to google analytiks and sign up. now, if you haven't already signed up to google analytiks, all you need to do is head over to analytiks- analytiksgooglecom and sign up for free. so we're going to go ahead and do that with a fresh account so we can guide you through the process. so, with that said, let's head up to setup for free, and what we need to do first is set up an account. so what we're going to do is come over to account name and add our account name. so for us, we're just going to add our website name or business name. so, for the purpose of this tutorial, what we're going to do is name this account real foods, which is the name of the business we're going to use in today's tutorial. so once you've added your account name in here, then what we want to do is navigate down to the bottom and click next. so we've gone ahead and set up our account. now, within our account, we're going to be asked to set up a property, so you can have multiple accounts and properties. so let's pretend that our account is an international business, like real foods, and let's say we have three cafes located around the world. so i would create three properties within that account for the different websites in the different countries. however, they're all under the same brand: real foods, which is the name of the account. so again, if i had three cafes- one in new zealand, australia and canada- i would have three properties called real foods canada, real foods new zealand and real foods australia. however, for the purpose of this tutorial, we just need one account, because we want to connect one property, which is going to be our shopify store. so what we want to do is come down to property name under create a google analytiks 4 property to measure your web and app data. so we're going to go ahead and name this property and, because we only have one business, one website, we're going to name this real foods also, and then come down to reporting time zone. we're going to come down and type in new zealand, because that's where we're based and that's where we operate, so i'm happy with that. then come down to currency and select your currency. so, again, for us, we're going to click new zealand. so, again, if you're in the us, you would click up here and type in united states, but we're going to select new zealand. i'm happy with that. so once you've selected your reporting time zone and the currency for your website- so where your business operates- then come down and click next and here you can fill out this basic business information. so we're going to come down to industry category and we're just going to come down to food and drink. then we're going to come down to small for the size of our business, then we're going to come down here: how do you intend to use google analytiks with your business? so, for us, we want to come down here and click increase my conversions, and then these two up here so you can select any of these options. it doesn't really matter, you don't have to select any of these. if you don't want, you can come down and click other. if you're not too sure, then we want to come down and click create and then, before we go ahead and accept google analytiks terms of service agreement, we want to select our location. so, again, for us, we're going to go new zealand and then we're going to come down here and click i also accept, then come down here and click i accept again, and then finally, i accept, and just like that, we have gone ahead and created an account and property for our online store, for our business. now we want to come over here and click save- we don't worry about any of this- and then google analytiks- for the updated version of google analytiks- will ask us to set up a data stream to start collecting data. so data stream is new to google analytiks 4.. this name wasn't around in previous versions of google analytiks, but it's essentially the same thing. what we want to do is install a piece of code on our shopify store so we can start recording analytiks, start recording data behavior on our shopify store, and we do that by creating a data stream. so what we want to do now is navigate over to web, because we don't want to record information from a android app or ios app. we have a shopify store, so we're going to select web setup and then, up here, all we need to do is retrieve our website url and paste that in here. so what we're going to do is head over to our shopify store and get our website url then here on our shopify store. all we need to do is navigate up to our shopify url and then copy this part here. so our domain. now we don't want to highlight admin, we just want our domain. so for us, that is realfoodsmyshopifycom. because this is a free account, we have not connected a real domain, as this is just a tutorial. however, for you, you might have a real domain in here. for example, for us, if we purchased a real domain, what we would purchase is realfoodscom. however, this is just a tutorial, so we're going to copy this entire domain here, and then what we're going to do is head back to google analytiks and then come down to website url and paste from your clipboard your url. so remember, we don't want www dot, we just want our domain name. then we want to come over to stream name again. we're going to name this our business, so real foods, and then, just like that, all we need to do is come down to create stream, and this is where it gets slightly confusing for most people. but remember, if we can do it, you can do it. we are not a coder, so this is a beginner's tutorial. you should be able to follow the steps and do this yourself now. originally, what we had to do was copy this little id up here, and originally we could just copy that and head into our preferences and paste that into the back end of our shopify store. however, it's not that simple at the moment because of the recent update to google analytiks, for shopify has not updated their backend to allow us to continue using this id up here. so, rather than copying this id, what we need to do is come down to global site tag- click here. then what we want to do is click this, copy to clipboard icon and what that's going to do is copy this entire code. so make sure you click copy. and then now what we want to do is install this piece of code into our website. now, don't let that scare you. it's not as daunting as it sounds. it's actually quite straightforward and you're not going to damage your website, and if you do, you're going to have a backup. so, with that said, let's go ahead and paste this code into our shopify store and, once that's completed, your google analytiks and shopify will now be connected. so what we're going to do now is head back to our shopify store. okay, so the code that we've just copied. what we need to do now is head over to online store. all right now, like i mentioned earlier, what we want to do is take that piece of code that we copied from google analytiks, and what we want to do is install that piece of code onto the back end of our shopify store, and we do that by navigating over to actions and coming down and editing our code. however, before we do that, what we want to do

Setup Google Analytics Manually in Shopify | Without App | Just One Minute Needed

let me quickly show you how you can set up Google analytiks into your Shopify store. so here is my Shopify dashboard and here is the online store Front Page. and now I need to go to Google analytiks. so first of all, you need to search here Google Analytiks, and then you need to click on first link, Google Analytiks, and then, after you will be redirected to a specific account, but you have to select the account which is relevant for you. I mean, currently I am going to set up Google analytiks with this Gmail account, so it will open up the dashboard of Google analytiks. then I need to create some properties for that. so here we go. now you can see that we have whom, reports and all. now you need to click on admin, then you need to click on click properties. once you clicked on properties, then you need to add here specific name. for example, the website name is paragon, and here I am going to write paragon analytiks, Maybe. all right. then after you need to select the, uh, select the country. here we have United Kingdom, but I need to write here Australia, all right. then after I need to select a specific country, which is Australian pound, Australian dollar, sorry, and then after you need to click here, show Advanced options. then you need to enable this option and here you need to paste the website name. so here is the website, so you only need to copy and paste this specific thing. maybe you can write www, but if you are not writing that it will be, it will work fine as well. but you can add here: www dot paragoncomau. all right. then after you need to select this option- create Universal analytiks property only- then you need to click on uh next. once you are clicking on next, then you need to select a specific category. click on select. then you can select here any category which is which is related to your store, but here it is related to Home and Garden, because the products are related to Home and Garden. all right. then after you need to click here, business size- that is, for example, small, 1 to 10 employees- then you need to select measure, content, monetization or maybe increase by conversions, all right. and once you are selecting all this stuff, then you need to need to click on create, so it will create the setup for my Google analytiks. once you are done, then you will be getting this kind of script. all right. here you can see that it automatikally gives me this screen where I need to select the code. so here you can see that I have this code, which I am going to copy from here. but first of all I need to go to the dashboard of my Shopify store again. then you need to click on actions, then you need to click on edit code and here you will have some folders and files. actually, there are two ways, but this is the first way which I am going to show you here. click on layouts, then click on theme dot liquid. once you are clicking on theme dot liquid, then you can see that we have head tag open. just press enter key and you will get some space above this. we need to paste this code, which is this one, copy this code and paste it here. all right, now we are good to go. you can save the changes and track the analytiks. but what we can do now is we can close this. click on exit and here we have another option of preferences. click on preferences, then scroll it down, and here you can see that we have the option of Google analytiks. so this is also one of the box where you can paste that code, which we have this one, and we can paste that code and this will also work. first of all, you need to paste that code here. if that is working fine, then that's good. if that is not working fine, then you need to go go and apply the first step which I told you before. all right, once you are done, then you can actually refresh this page. and let me go to Analytiks, and then you can actually go to home and click on real time maybe. so here you can see that this is the live, live active users which are showing here. so currently only single person has uh person is visited onto your store, so that's why it is showing one. that means it is working absolutely fine. all right, here you can also see the name Paragon Analytiks. so that's it for now. so I think that you got the basic understanding that how you can set up Google analytiks into your store. if you wanted to uh again check that the code is available into your store or not are real, then you can also do one more thing, right, click, click on view page source and here you will have some code you can actually find here, control F or command F. then you can select analytiks and here you can see that this analytiks is searched inside of it, and that means this is available into your store. all right, so that's it for now. thank you so much for watching this video. if you are new on this channel, then please subscribe this channel. also like this video. thank you once again. see you in the next video.

How to Setup Google Analytics on Shopify | Google Analytics 4 Update (Beginners Guide)

now the next stage is to actually set up some of the key core apps to use in our store now. one of the main ones is actually Google analytiks. so we're going to go ahead and set up the Google analytiks app. this is quite an important one which you want to actually set up on our store. Google analytiks is just providing us with some extra data for our store. now, when you search for Google analytiks, no apps are actually going to come up. the reason why is it's actually built into Shopify, so you don't have to worry about this. you would actually go into settings under Shopify settings. when you click on the settings page in the bottom left, you click on apps and sales channels, and from here, this is where you can actually set up Google analytiks right. then you want to click on online store as your sale Channel and from here it shows some extra information over here, and then we can progress from this point on press open sales Channel. over here, you could have literally just selected online store on the left. that basically does the same thing, and then from here, you want to click preferences of the store itself, and this is where we can go back to the edit section we did a little bit earlier in the course. under here we then have Google analytiks, so there's a guide here on how to set it up, and you'll need to paste a Google analytiks code you get from Google into this box to set it up, and this is the same thing that we do for Facebook pixel a little bit later as well. so you're gonna need to sign up for Google analytiks, guys, if you want to have tracking on your website. this allows you to track certain interactions and behaviors of some of your visitors and have a little bit more data to actually show yourself right. so you need an account name. I'm just going to call this Shopify, because this is for the Shopify store, and then we're just going to leave this on default and press next property name. I'm just going to call it Shopify, just press next. then industry is just going to be Beauty and fitness small. and then how do you intend to use it? measure customer engagement, measure data, optimize my advertising costs, increase my conversions. measure content monetization. analyze my online sales, measure lead generation. so we'll tikle these. press create, accept the Google terms of service. so this then creates your Google analytiks account. just press save on here by default and then it leads us into the Google analytiks dashboard. okay, now to enable Google analytiks, we want to go into the admin section over here which we're under and create property. now we've created a property, a Shopify, already, so we have Shopify as our property. now the property code here next to it is what we want to copyright when you create a new Shopify property. one thing that I forgot to mention is you need to create a universal analytiks property under here and then select create a universal analytiks property only, and then the website address. we can just select this as the address for our Shopify page, for example. press next and then do exactly what we did before: fill in the things which you want to use Google analytiks for. press create and then now we have this Universal thing over here with this different code. so under property settings, we now have a tracking ID. so copy this tracking ID into Shopify and this is the right code that we actually need. this one will actually work. so now press use enhanced e-commerce. press save now inside Google analytiks, soon to admin under Google analytiks and Under The View column here. what we can do then from here is there should be eCommerce settings, e-commerce settings here under view. click on that and then press enable e-commerce and toggle it to on and also tik on enable enhanced e-commerce reporting as well, okay, and press save. okay, this is really important. then, from Shopify on here, make sure this is tiked. use enhanced e-commerce- okay, and make sure this is tiked. this basically allows Shopify to track and send all the website data from your Shopify store straight to Google analytiks. so this is important and, as long as you've turned it on here, enhanced e-commerce reporting in Google analytiks. this should already be set up. so that's how to set up Google analytiks. that's the first portion. so then you can use Google analytiks to actually gather data from your website and the performance from users on your website and their interactions, please. [Applause]- foreign [Music]. [Applause] [Music]. [Applause] [Music].
