Hello, my name is Rick and I help businesses build and optimize accessible Shopify websites. In today's video, we're going to audit a Shopify website and you're going to learn how we do it. Follow me, we're going to use a random website.

Auditing a Shopify Website:

- We found the website Bush Woodcraft through a Google search for Shopify stores in Ontario, Canada.

- The website is non-compliant with the Worldwide Consortium Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), which many parts of the world use as a basis for accessibility legislation.

- Because the business is in Ontario, they must comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

- The first issue found in the report is that there's not enough contrast ratio, which can be a problem for people with color blindness.

- The second issue is related to the hierarchy of the headings on the page and how they're marked up using HTML tags.

- The third issue is that menu items that have a drop-down menu are not keyword navigable, which can be a problem for users who rely on a keyboard for navigation.

Addressing the Issues:

- To address the contrast ratio issue, there are tools available that allow users to modify contrast to their needs without breaking the design of the store.

- To address the issue with the hierarchy of headings, there should only be one priority H1 tag per page and headings should be built with consistent hierarchy.

- To address the issue with drop-down menus, menu items should include an area-expanded attribute that equals to false to ensure that they're keyword navigable.

Deepanshu: Building The SHOPIFY of NFT Marketplaces

In this article, we will discuss the journey of Deepanshu Tripathi, founder of AssetMantle, in the Web 3.0 space. We will cover his background, career journey, and interesting aspects of his journey.

Career Journey:

Deepanshu started his journey by mining Bitcoin and Ethereum in college. He then worked on building a B2B point of sale mobile application that integrated with various payment instruments. During this project, he gained insight into the current FinTech infrastructure's reconciliation issue, which inspired him to envision a reconciliation-free world.

He then explored tokenization and exchange of digital asset ownables, leading him to build an application inside the blockchain itself. He identified the technology and vision of Cosmos, which led to the birth of ComDex, an NFT exchange for high seas commodity trading. He then co-founded Persistence, which developed an open-source full-stack code, including front-end, client, and messaging services.

In 2021, Persistence tried to raise funds for an NFT marketplace and digital real-world asset tokenization. However, they had to pivot due to low interest in the project and became interested in liquid staking. They proposed a standard way of building it, called the InterNFT standard, which received funding from the InterChain Foundation. They built the first POC and front end to deal with it and created it as a separate project called AssetMantle.

Interesting Aspects:

The most interesting aspect of Deepanshu's journey was building a bridge from Cosmos to Ethereum. It was technically challenging but architectured in such a way that stakeholders could verify transactions without manipulation.

Deepanshu's journey in the Web 3.0 space has been a path of exploration and innovation. From mining to building an NFT exchange and liquid staking, he has contributed significantly to the blockchain ecosystem. Building a bridge from Cosmos to Ethereum was the most challenging and interesting aspect of his journey so far.

Shopify is a global multi-channel platform for commerce and has been growing rapidly since its launch. At Shopify Unite 2017, Shopify announced its plans for the future of commerce.

Sales Channels:

Shopify is the largest multi-channel platform in the world, offering a variety of ways for people to sell online, from marketplaces to mobile to retail. Nearly 60% of Shopify merchants sell in more than one channel, and Shopify is working hard to make this process as easy as possible. Shopify has added a new discovery feature, as well as publishing and reporting tools, to make it easier for merchants to manage their channels. Shopify is also launching a whole array of new channel partnerships this year.


Shopify is expanding its mobile offering to help merchants build custom storefronts on mobile and manage them with all of their channels. Shopify has released new iOS and Android SDKs and is introducing a brand new direct channel offering called Mobile Store Apps, which will allow merchants to launch mobile store apps without writing a single line of code. Shopify is also exploring the opportunity of mobile gaming by introducing a brand new Buy SDK for Unity, which will allow game developers to expand into physical goods.


Shopify has expanded its POS system, Shop by POS, to work across iOS and Android and now includes over 65,000 Shopify merchants. Shopify is introducing new features such as online returns, online exchanges, online discount codes, and customer profiles to ensure the best possible multi-channel experience for merchants and their shoppers. Shopify has also designed its own chip and swipe card reader, which will be absolutely free for everyone to start with.

Shopify is constantly improving its online store experience by releasing new tools for theme developers and significantly improving the management of themes navigation and domains. Shopify has also introduced features to add stock photos and use premium quality fonts from its partners.
