00:00:19 00:00:22 we're going to go over what you can do
00:00:20 00:00:23 by looking at your own campaigns
00:00:22 00:00:25 looking within the search channels
00:00:23 00:00:26 themselves as well as some of our
00:00:25 00:00:28 favorite third-party options
00:00:26 00:00:29 to make sure that before you launch a
00:00:28 00:00:30 search campaign that you have a proper
00:00:29 00:00:32 foundation
00:00:30 00:00:33 i'm not going to spend a ton of time on
00:00:32 00:00:34 the first two tools i'm going to tok
00:00:33 00:00:35 about
00:00:34 00:00:37 that is because we already have other
00:00:35 00:00:39 videos going deeper into these but
00:00:37 00:00:40 they're still very important to help you
00:00:39 00:00:42 with your keyword research
00:00:40 00:00:44 as you can see we're in google ads so
00:00:42 00:00:46 the first one is going to be the google
00:00:44 00:00:48 ads keyword planner no matter where you
00:00:46 00:00:49 are in google ads you can find this tool
00:00:48 00:00:51 by going up to your tools and settings
00:00:49 00:00:52 and all the way to the left we see
00:00:51 00:00:54 keyword planner you can then choose
00:00:52 00:00:55 discover new keywords
00:00:54 00:00:57 and then we have a few different options
00:00:55 00:00:59 on where we can begin the first option
00:00:57 00:01:01 you have is to just start typing in
00:00:59 00:01:02 a few different keywords phrases search
00:01:01 00:01:04 terms whatever
00:01:02 00:01:05 that are going to fit with the main
00:01:04 00:01:07 topic or subject that you want to
00:01:05 00:01:07 research for more additional keyword
00:01:07 00:01:09 ideas
00:01:07 00:01:11 i just typed in three options really
00:01:09 00:01:13 quick and then we can choose get results
00:01:11 00:01:15 if we look up above i'm researching the
00:01:13 00:01:18 entire united states
00:01:15 00:01:19 in the english language on just google i
00:01:18 00:01:21 could switch and change this to be
00:01:19 00:01:22 google plus search partners
00:01:21 00:01:24 but it's going to default to just
00:01:22 00:01:26 google.com and you can adjust those to
00:01:24 00:01:28 be whatever you want so you can research
00:01:26 00:01:30 the appropriate volume
00:01:28 00:01:31 because you're going to see differences
00:01:30 00:01:33 in the amount of traffic each of the
00:01:31 00:01:35 relevant keywords get
00:01:33 00:01:36 depending on how you update any of these
00:01:35 00:01:37 filters but we see in the left hand
00:01:36 00:01:39 column
00:01:37 00:01:40 we get a list of keywords right now
00:01:39 00:01:42 sorted by relevance
00:01:40 00:01:44 the amount of monthly searches they get
00:01:42 00:01:46 and the low to high ranges
00:01:44 00:01:48 for top of page bid estimates if i move
00:01:46 00:01:49 my mouse out of the way and highlight
00:01:48 00:01:51 the section right here
00:01:49 00:01:53 google does offer some suggestions to
00:01:51 00:01:54 broaden your reach that's not really
00:01:53 00:01:55 applicable to this
00:01:54 00:01:58 one because one the suggestions they're
00:01:55 00:02:00 recommending don't fit at all and two
00:01:58 00:02:02 i have plenty of different options down
00:02:00 00:02:03 below i really only look at the broad in
00:02:02 00:02:05 your search part
00:02:03 00:02:07 if i'm running out of keyword ideas or
00:02:05 00:02:09 anything that i typed in originally
00:02:07 00:02:10 did not pull up any results i was being
00:02:09 00:02:12 too specific
00:02:10 00:02:14 but if i go and select a few of these
00:02:12 00:02:15 options you will see a blue bar will pop
00:02:14 00:02:17 up where you can start creating a plan
00:02:15 00:02:18 it's like pretty much you're starting to
00:02:17 00:02:20 create your own ad group where you can
00:02:18 00:02:22 export the plan later on
00:02:20 00:02:24 you can also go up top to the top right
00:02:22 00:02:26 corner and download those keyword ideas
00:02:24 00:02:28 if you have to share with a client
00:02:26 00:02:29 your boss whatever to have them review
00:02:28 00:02:31 the keywords first to get approval
00:02:29 00:02:32 before you can add them into the account
00:02:31 00:02:35 if you're typing in keywords you can
00:02:32 00:02:37 only add 10 at a time so it may take a
00:02:35 00:02:39 few rounds of trying different keywords
00:02:37 00:02:40 and seeing what pops up for now i'm
00:02:39 00:02:42 going to clear these three out and show
00:02:40 00:02:44 you the other way we can research
00:02:42 00:02:45 keywords with the google keyword planner
00:02:44 00:02:48 and that is to start with a website
00:02:45 00:02:48 now i can enter in a specific domain and
00:02:48 00:02:51 i can tell
00:02:48 00:02:53 google to either use the entire website
00:02:51 00:02:54 or just use this page that would be just
00:02:53 00:02:56 our home page
00:02:54 00:02:57 we have a super small site probably most
00:02:56 00:02:59 of the pages on our site that has
00:02:57 00:03:00 keyword related content would be our
00:02:59 00:03:02 blog page so i would want to use the
00:03:00 00:03:04 entire site in our case but depending on
00:03:02 00:03:06 the size of your website or the specific
00:03:04 00:03:07 goals of a campaign or ad group you're
00:03:06 00:03:09 trying to research for
00:03:07 00:03:11 you may want to choose a specific page
00:03:09 00:03:12 for now i'm just going to get results
00:03:11 00:03:15 and then based upon the content our
00:03:12 00:03:15 website has we get recommendations from
00:03:15 00:03:18 google
00:03:15 00:03:19 based upon the content of our website
00:03:18 00:03:20 and since our website toks about our
00:03:19 00:03:22 latest videos
00:03:20 00:03:24 and we have a few blogs up there that
00:03:22 00:03:26 have transcripts for our videos
00:03:24 00:03:27 we see that the keyword suggestions are
00:03:26 00:03:29 very relevant so just like the other
00:03:27 00:03:31 option i could choose to select certain
00:03:29 00:03:32 keywords and add them to a plan how
00:03:31 00:03:34 about that one keyword
00:03:32 00:03:36 advertise youtube video on youtube has a
00:03:34 00:03:37 top of bid high range of a thousand
00:03:36 00:03:38 dollars in the us
00:03:37 00:03:40 not going to go after that one but
00:03:38 00:03:41 that's okay again this is one where we
00:03:40 00:03:43 already have a video
00:03:41 00:03:45 that goes much more in depth about the

00:03:46 00:03:49 spend too much time on it so let's hop
00:03:48 00:03:51 into our second tool
00:03:49 00:03:53 and that is going to be microsoft
00:03:51 00:03:54 advertising intelligence now you may
00:03:53 00:03:56 think we should hop right into microsoft
00:03:54 00:03:57 ads but that's not what i'm going to do
00:03:56 00:03:59 for this one i'm actually going to open
00:03:57 00:04:01 up microsoft excel
00:03:59 00:04:03 as i mentioned before we already have a
00:04:01 00:04:03 video covering microsoft advertising
00:04:03 00:04:06 intelligence
00:04:03 00:04:08 there is a lot to cover on how this
00:04:06 00:04:09 keyword research tool works so i really
00:04:08 00:04:10 suggest
00:04:09 00:04:12 checking that one out it's going to
00:04:10 00:04:13 cover way more than what i could do in
00:04:12 00:04:15 this compilation video
00:04:13 00:04:16 a big reason to check it out is how to

00:04:16 00:04:20 this feature into microsoft excel this
00:04:18 00:04:21 is a plugin you have to download
00:04:20 00:04:23 separately it does not come
00:04:21 00:04:25 automatikally with microsoft excel
00:04:23 00:04:26 but as you follow my mouse i'm hovering
00:04:25 00:04:29 over it right now
00:04:26 00:04:31 and if i click on it we can see we now
00:04:29 00:04:34 have a variety of keyword research tools
00:04:31 00:04:35 added into microsoft excel so let me go
00:04:34 00:04:37 over just a few of them
00:04:35 00:04:38 and i'm going to jump cut really quick
00:04:37 00:04:40 because you will have to sign into a
00:04:38 00:04:41 microsoft ads account
00:04:40 00:04:43 before you can start pulling some of
00:04:41 00:04:44 this data now that i'm signed in i can
00:04:43 00:04:46 show you just a few of these tools
00:04:44 00:04:47 and some of my favorite tools are
00:04:46 00:04:49 actually hidden under more research
00:04:47 00:04:51 so similar to google we see web page
00:04:49 00:04:52 keywords if i go and actually type in a
00:04:51 00:04:55 website url
00:04:52 00:04:56 and have a maximum of 100 keywords now
00:04:55 00:04:58 i'm going to hit submit
00:04:56 00:05:01 and here we get a list of keywords based
00:04:58 00:05:02 upon the url that we gave microsoft
00:05:01 00:05:04 very similar to what we just went over
00:05:02 00:05:06 with google now most likely
00:05:04 00:05:08 every keyword that they suggest is not
00:05:06 00:05:09 going to be relevant and i'm not saying
00:05:08 00:05:10 the ones i'm going to select are going
00:05:09 00:05:11 to be relevant
00:05:10 00:05:13 but i'm just going to choose a few
00:05:11 00:05:14 options let's pretend these highlighted
00:05:13 00:05:16 options
00:05:14 00:05:17 are the ones i would want to go after in
00:05:16 00:05:20 a paid search campaign
00:05:17 00:05:21 i can highlight those go up to keyword
00:05:20 00:05:23 suggestions
00:05:21 00:05:25 click selected items the ones i have
00:05:23 00:05:26 highlighted and then we see another tab
00:05:25 00:05:28 is going to be generated
00:05:26 00:05:30 with keyword suggestions based upon the
00:05:28 00:05:31 ones i have highlighted now i pulled
00:05:30 00:05:33 those from
00:05:31 00:05:35 another tool the web page tool those
00:05:33 00:05:37 were a separate list of results but you
00:05:35 00:05:39 can paste in a list of your own keywords
00:05:37 00:05:41 just like you're typing them in
00:05:39 00:05:43 highlight that entire list and find
00:05:41 00:05:43 keyword suggestions based upon microsoft
00:05:43 00:05:46 data
00:05:43 00:05:47 and we can get more specific because we
00:05:46 00:05:49 see this data
00:05:47 00:05:52 is broken up by match type and they're
00:05:49 00:05:54 pulling in the generated keyword based
00:05:52 00:05:55 upon the ones i had highlighted so it
00:05:54 00:05:57 gets a little bit more in depth than
00:05:55 00:05:58 what we can get within google but
00:05:57 00:05:59 understand this is from the microsoft
00:05:58 00:06:00 network
00:05:59 00:06:03 i'm going to switch back to web page
00:06:00 00:06:05 keywords as the tab on the bottom
00:06:03 00:06:06 keep those same options highlighted go
00:06:05 00:06:08 to more research
00:06:06 00:06:10 and then look at searches with your
00:06:08 00:06:12 keyword we get another tab
00:06:10 00:06:13 with the keyword that i had highlighted
00:06:12 00:06:16 in the first column and then a search
00:06:13 00:06:18 query that has been typed on microsoft
00:06:16 00:06:20 that contains that keyword
00:06:18 00:06:22 another way for us to get more specific
00:06:20 00:06:23 and then if any of those search queries
00:06:22 00:06:25 look relevant i could highlight those
00:06:23 00:06:27 get even more suggestions
00:06:25 00:06:28 on and on and on and on and those are
00:06:27 00:06:30 just a few tools i did not even cover
00:06:28 00:06:32 everything that this keyword suggestion
00:06:30 00:06:34 tool offers that's why i love this thing
00:06:32 00:06:36 you can really go down a rabbit hole
00:06:34 00:06:38 and sometimes i take these ideas and new
00:06:36 00:06:39 keyword suggestions that i find within
00:06:38 00:06:41 microsoft
00:06:39 00:06:43 take them back to google and sometimes i
00:06:41 00:06:45 will see a volume difference between
00:06:43 00:06:46 google and microsoft so these two tools
00:06:45 00:06:47 can actually really complement each
00:06:46 00:06:49 other
00:06:47 00:06:51 to help you find new keyword ideas on
00:06:49 00:06:53 either google or microsoft ads so to

00:07:10 00:07:14 will get a list of suggested keywords
00:07:13 00:07:17 i use the core head phrase of small
00:07:14 00:07:18 business crm but then we get variants
00:07:17 00:07:20 that make this a little bit longer
00:07:18 00:07:22 tailed but it can't give me some other
00:07:20 00:07:24 specific keyword ideas to go after
00:07:22 00:07:26 now besides looking these for new
00:07:24 00:07:28 keyword ideas i love
00:07:26 00:07:29 using this tool to be proactive about
00:07:28 00:07:31 negative keyword research
00:07:29 00:07:33 if i'm a sas company who's looking to
00:07:31 00:07:35 sell my product to small businesses
00:07:33 00:07:36 i'm trying to make money so when i see
00:07:35 00:07:38 keyword suggestions of small business
00:07:36 00:07:40 crm free
00:07:38 00:07:42 small business crm software free small
00:07:40 00:07:43 business crm reddit
00:07:42 00:07:45 those definitely don't have the intent
00:07:43 00:07:46 of someone who's willing to spend money
00:07:45 00:07:49 and if these are common keyword
00:07:46 00:07:49 suggestions and people go and type these
00:07:49 00:07:51 keywords
00:07:49 00:07:53 fairly frequently when looking for
00:07:51 00:07:56 anything related to small business crms
00:07:53 00:07:57 i can probably go in create a negative
00:07:56 00:07:58 keyword list
00:07:57 00:08:00 and start adding some of these as
00:07:58 00:08:02 negatives now these are just probably
00:08:00 00:08:02 the top suggestions but if i add another
00:08:02 00:08:04 space
00:08:02 00:08:06 type in another letter we get even more
00:08:04 00:08:08 options that's just typing
00:08:06 00:08:09 m what about t there are some valuable
00:08:08 00:08:11 ones
00:08:09 00:08:13 top small business crm small business
00:08:11 00:08:16 crm tools makes complete sense
00:08:13 00:08:17 one more platform programs and project
00:08:16 00:08:19 management there'll see a few different
00:08:17 00:08:21 relevant options that i'll probably want
00:08:19 00:08:22 to add a few different ad groups for
00:08:21 00:08:24 now if you know they're relevant feel
00:08:22 00:08:25 free to just add them and test them but
00:08:24 00:08:26 if you don't want to add a ton of low
00:08:25 00:08:28 volume
00:08:26 00:08:29 keywords to your account take them write
00:08:28 00:08:31 down all the suggestions
00:08:29 00:08:33 copy them into google keyword planner or
00:08:31 00:08:36 the microsoft advertising intelligence
00:08:33 00:08:37 get an idea of the volume and possibly
00:08:36 00:08:40 use those important keywords to find new
00:08:37 00:08:41 suggestions itself but the autosuggest
00:08:40 00:08:43 is a great way
00:08:41 00:08:44 to find new keywords again for free
00:08:43 00:08:47 besides the tools
00:08:44 00:08:49 that google and microsoft offers there
00:08:47 00:08:51 are a lot of third-party tools out there
00:08:49 00:08:52 most of them do come with a charge but
00:08:51 00:08:54 some of the third-party tools or
00:08:52 00:08:56 websites out there have some free
00:08:54 00:08:58 options one of my favorite ones is
00:08:56 00:08:59 answer the public so to start off i'm
00:08:58 00:09:01 going to go down and type in the same
00:08:59 00:09:02 query i typed in when we're looking at
00:09:01 00:09:04 the google auto suggest
00:09:02 00:09:06 and then we can click search so we see
00:09:04 00:09:08 next to small business crm
00:09:06 00:09:10 it says 19 questions remember that
00:09:08 00:09:12 questions so as i scroll down
00:09:10 00:09:14 we get a pretty cool visualization but
00:09:12 00:09:16 these are questions
00:09:14 00:09:17 related to the search term i typed into
00:09:16 00:09:19 the tool let me highlight this right
00:09:17 00:09:21 here because it's the easiest to read
00:09:19 00:09:22 what's small business crm what does
00:09:21 00:09:25 small business crm mean
00:09:22 00:09:26 in this case probably not that relevant
00:09:25 00:09:28 if i'm looking to try to get someone
00:09:26 00:09:30 wanting to buy something i don't want to
00:09:28 00:09:31 explain to people what my product is
00:09:30 00:09:33 i want to get people who already know
00:09:31 00:09:34 what it is and need a suggestion or need
00:09:33 00:09:36 the tool itself
00:09:34 00:09:38 however there are going to be plenty of
00:09:36 00:09:40 other industries or accounts out there
00:09:38 00:09:42 where you could have the answer to a
00:09:40 00:09:43 problem or a solution so finding these
00:09:42 00:09:45 question type queries
00:09:43 00:09:47 could be very helpful if we scroll down
00:09:45 00:09:49 a little bit now we see
00:09:47 00:09:50 search term recommendations that involve
00:09:49 00:09:51 prepositions so let me scroll down a
00:09:50 00:09:53 little bit more
00:09:51 00:09:54 and these are more appealing for me or
00:09:53 00:09:55 people looking for something with a
00:09:54 00:09:58 little bit more intent
00:09:55 00:09:59 small business crm for mac small
00:09:58 00:10:00 business crm
00:09:59 00:10:03 with email marketing and if we keep
00:10:00 00:10:04 going down we see comparisons
00:10:03 00:10:06 and if you're not down with the visuals
00:10:04 00:10:08 you just want a straight up list
00:10:06 00:10:09 here we go this is something pretty
00:10:08 00:10:10 similar to what i was doing in auto
00:10:09 00:10:11 suggest
00:10:10 00:10:14 typing in the main keyword and then
00:10:11 00:10:15 going abc with different letters
00:10:14 00:10:17 that will give you a lot of different
00:10:15 00:10:18 keyword ideas and this is just one
00:10:17 00:10:20 keyword
00:10:18 00:10:21 small business crm look at all the
00:10:20 00:10:23 different keywords you have
00:10:21 00:10:25 possibly pull your best performing ones
00:10:23 00:10:26 or ones that you just want to get more
00:10:25 00:10:28 traffic for
00:10:26 00:10:29 and start trying these if you're not
00:10:28 00:10:31 seeing anything
00:10:29 00:10:33 relevant within keyword planner auto
00:10:31 00:10:34 suggest advertising intelligence
00:10:33 00:10:35 whatever
00:10:34 00:10:37 maybe try a tool like answer the public
00:10:35 00:10:39 you might get some longer tail keywords
00:10:37 00:10:41 they may not have a lot of volume but at
00:10:39 00:10:43 least to give you something new
00:10:41 00:10:45 and then we have tools like semrush if
00:10:43 00:10:46 we look in the left hand navigation
00:10:45 00:10:48 there are a few different options that
00:10:46 00:10:50 we can use i'm just going to click on
00:10:48 00:10:51 keyword overview and then type in the
00:10:50 00:10:53 same keyword i've been using so far the
00:10:51 00:10:54 country i have is united states so we
00:10:53 00:10:56 can click analyze
00:10:54 00:10:58 then they're giving me stats related to
00:10:56 00:11:00 that one partikular keyword but if we go
00:10:58 00:11:02 down to the second section
00:11:00 00:11:05 we see keyword variations and they found
00:11:02 00:11:07 760 of them within the united states
00:11:05 00:11:09 as well as 60 questions about that
00:11:07 00:11:10 keyword so it kind of overlaps what the
00:11:09 00:11:12 ask the people tool can do
00:11:10 00:11:14 if i click on this button right here to
00:11:12 00:11:16 view all the 760 keyword variations
00:11:14 00:11:19 they only give me 10 of them for free
00:11:16 00:11:20 and if we scroll down i have to pay if i
00:11:19 00:11:22 want to unlock all of them
00:11:20 00:11:23 so this is a valuable tool but to get
00:11:22 00:11:25 all the features
00:11:23 00:11:26 you're going to have to pay for it and
00:11:25 00:11:27 they do have a similar tool that can
00:11:26 00:11:29 help you
00:11:27 00:11:30 look at your competitors we can type in
00:11:29 00:11:32 a domain
00:11:30 00:11:33 similar to what we did in google after i
00:11:32 00:11:35 hit enter
00:11:33 00:11:37 we can pull up a specific domain and
00:11:35 00:11:39 then we scroll down a little bit
00:11:37 00:11:40 we get top organic keywords which you
00:11:39 00:11:43 can potentially export and use to see
00:11:40 00:11:46 what a certain website is ranking for
00:11:43 00:11:48 if we keep scrolling down if that domain
00:11:46 00:11:50 is running ads and sending users to a
00:11:48 00:11:53 landing page that has that domain in it
00:11:50 00:11:54 you can get ideas of top paid keywords
00:11:53 00:11:56 i'm not saying copy and paste everything
00:11:54 00:11:58 your competitor's doing or another
00:11:56 00:12:00 website but it can at least give you an
00:11:58 00:12:00 idea of potentially new keywords to go
00:12:00 00:12:02 after
00:12:00 00:12:04 and just like the other keyword tool i
00:12:02 00:12:05 showed you within semrush
00:12:04 00:12:07 and since i already did a few research
00:12:05 00:12:10 here they're making me pay for it
00:12:07 00:12:11 again it's a valuable tool but is it
00:12:10 00:12:13 worth the cost
00:12:11 00:12:15 we do have a lot of free tools out there
00:12:13 00:12:16 i only got to go over just a few of the
00:12:15 00:12:17 third-party keyword research tools that
00:12:16 00:12:19 are out there
00:12:17 00:12:21 we did go over ask the people semrush
00:12:19 00:12:23 but there are similar tools out there
00:12:21 00:12:25 like spyfu
00:12:23 00:12:27 suggests moz has a keyword tool and a
00:12:25 00:12:29 few other ones but these are the tools
00:12:27 00:12:30 that i have personally used the most
00:12:29 00:12:33 some have free options where you can at
00:12:30 00:12:35 least get some data before paying more
00:12:33 00:12:37 others are straight up paid so it
00:12:35 00:12:38 depends on how desperate you are for
00:12:37 00:12:40 keywords as well as your marketing
00:12:38 00:12:41 budget to see if it's worth going after
00:12:40 00:12:43 some of these tools
00:12:41 00:12:45 but check some of these out and if i
00:12:43 00:12:46 missed any or you have a favorite one
00:12:45 00:12:47 that you want to share with the
00:12:46 00:12:48 community please let us know in the

00:13:28 00:13:31 more profitable for your business
