Magento vs Shopify : Which Is the Absolute Best?

hello guys and welcome to our in-depth comparison of shopify versus magento. you'll find the links to the products in the description and you can use the links to check user reviews and the latest prices. make sure you watch until the end of the video to know my final verdict on which e-commerce platform is better. so the main difference between these e-commerce platforms is their pricing. shopify is a hosted platform. this means that all the hosting costs are included in your subscription. magento, on the other hand, is a self-hosted platform and you have to pay for extensions, domain security and other services. this might make shopify look cheaper at first, but there are extra charges for themes and apps, unlike magento, where the cost incurred only depends on your requirements. though shopify is expensive at the end of the day, i found the pricing to be simple and straightforward. i also appreciate the convenient cost of using magento themes. aside from the pricing, these two platforms also differ in their themes. shopify has a couple of free themes, which i found to be convenient because i didn't want to spend any money on my first try. the premium themes only added to the initial cost and were not as flexible as the ones on magento. the themes on magento are a little high in the price, but they can be personalized in several different ways. you can even create a theme from scratch if you have the funds and coding knowledge. with shopify themes, they're all mobile optimized. this means that they'll work effectively on any device, via desktop or mobile phone. you can edit their color palettes and images and add social media feeds. when it comes to magento, it all depends on your tiknology. the themes are flexible, which means you can add features to them that are not on other templates. ease of use: the usability of shopify is way easier than magento's. you don't need any experience to use it. magento, on the other hand, requires you to have advanced knowledge of coding and tiknology to set up your online store. even though it gives you complete control over your website, i found the whole process too hectik. shopify is built for everyone, and it only gave me my business to worry about, and not the website as well. this does not mean that it's as automatik as it sounds. it would be best if you learned how to use it effectively. the difference is that the learning curve of magento is a lot steeper than that of shopify extensions. shopify has over 4 200 apps that enable you to add features and boost the sales of your products. some of these apps are paid, which is an additional cost to the initial subscription. they're easy to install from the app store and are continuously developing to expand the functionality of the website through email marketing and accounting, to mention but a few. magento extensions are over 5 000, which allow you to promote your products and can be accessed through the magento marketplace. the extensions don't need any coding knowledge to implement, which i found to be relieving for a change. the extensions help a lot in improving sales. for example, the pre-order automatikally sends emails of available products to potential customers. how do the two e-commerce platforms compare in terms of specification designs: winner: shopify has free themes that give beginners a trial opportunity. usability winner: shopify is a lot simpler to use. performance winner: with shopify, stability is assured. coupons and discounts winner: coupons and discounts are an added advantage in magento. from the table, the two platforms are head-to-head, but shopify is the obvious winner with free themes, easy usability and unstable performance compared to magento. similarities between shopify and magento: while these two platforms may seem distinct, they have a couple of features that make them similar. they both have similar store functionalities like shopping carts, product pages, checkout modules and promotion tools, and though you have to get an app for shopify to access these functions, the outcome is pretty much the same at the end of the day. they both can be used to open functional online stores to showcase products to the online audience. so in case you're wondering if you can use the platform simultaneously for the same store, you might consider picking just one. they both have online themes that add a personal feel to your products. the themes can be customized depending on what your store is selling. they also have seo capabilities to make your website more visible- things you should know before setting up a shopify. before starting an online store on shopify, there are things you should take into account. one: you will spend a lot more on shopify than you would on magento. although you will pay a monthly or yearly subscription, there are added costs along the way, like installing the apps and purchasing themes. there are also different versions of shopify, like lite plus and pos. light is cost efficient and mostly for small businesses, but you'll likely miss out on the discounts and coupons. shopify plus has more features and functionalities, while pos point of sale is more suited for physical stores looking to expand their outreach. when using the light plan, i notiked that at one point it could not accommodate all my products, so i had to upgrade to a higher priced plan. the same happened to the new plan and i realized that the platform does not offer unlimited products, so you might want to purchase a plan that suits your products and you can know which during your first 14 day free trial. the features that stood out for me were the abandoned cart recovery and shopify community. you can send automatik emails to customers who left your website mid-purchase, which enables you to recover lost sales, and can also interact with other e-merchants on shopify and experts and discuss issues on the sites in an informal and conducive way. what we liked: it is user friendly, has responsive themes that can be used on different devices. has advanced functionality features. what we did not like: it is expensive. the themes are limited in terms of number and customization- things you should know before setting up a magento. before deciding to start your online store on magento, you should know that, despite the installation and setup process being free, it requires advanced knowledge in coding. to start my store, i had to hire a web developer to do the basics. there is a monthly payment to the web hosting. the cost is, however, still low compared to shopify subscriptions, you have the freedom to choose your desired web hosting, and the process is made easy with lower costing monthly payments. magento also has themes that you can customize by adding animations and newsletter options. aside from the available themes, you can also create your own from scratch. these features are most convenient for enterprises, and it might be wasteful to set up a small business on this platform. you have complete control over your website when using this platform and also has a perfect inventory system that allows you to access revenue reports and have visitor counts. the payment gateways are higher than in shopify, which guarantees a better payment processor. the platform's performance speed depends on the web host, and this might pose a challenge. magento has a community and an enterprise plan. the community plan is not as advanced, but the enterprise plan targets big businesses that earn high revenues and already have global audiences. what we liked: it is scalable. it has a large variety of features. its themes are customizable. what we did not like: it's expensive. it's not suitable for all users, since it requires coding knowledge verdict. so which is better, shopify or magento? everything considered, i have to say shopify is the winner in this case. magento is more of a platform for big businesses that have already developed, while shopify offers a platform for everybody, a beginner or an enterprise, to open an online store and sell their products. shopify is also easy to start and use, which is a big advantage it has.

5 reasons you should choose Magento vs Shopify

I get it, you guys aren't e-commerce platform experts, and you shouldn't be. it's your job to be an expert in whatever your business does. Choosing an e-commerce platform is a big decision. You're gonna invest your hard-earned money and build your business on this thing, and it's going to define your business online for the next several years. That's a lot of pressure. I'm going to try and simplify it for you and in this video, I'm gonna give you five reasons to choose Magento over Shopify. Pull yourself up a chair and let's tok about. Choosing an e-commerce platform can be a subtle, nuanced process. It often comes down to the smallest difference or feature that makes one direction better than another. There's no way we can go through everything in a single video. This video is not a feature comparison. It's more of five big things that you can look for that, if they apply to your business, can make your decision a lot easier. With that in mind, it really applies to Shopify, Shopify Plus, Magento Open Source or Magento Commerce. This partikular video outlines five reasons that Magento might be better for you than Shopify, but it's one in a series of platform comparisons. I'm gonna give you five reasons to choose Shopify as well, and I'll link you to that video at the end of this one. No one is unbiased. Anybody who tells you they're unbiased is just lying to you. I have my favorite platforms. We're Magento partners. don't do so much with Shopify. However, I'm not going to steer you wrong either. I want you to end up on the platform that is 100% best for you and your business. Now, these are in no partikular order, so let's just get into it. The first reason to choose Magento over Shopify is if you're in a controversial or high-risk industry. If you're an industry where laws or public sentiment is constantly evolving, the open source nature and flexibility of Magento is going to give you stability that you can never have on Shopify. Shopify has a history of allowing businesses to invest and build on their platform, only to change their mind and give them weeks to find and migrate to another option. You don't want that kind of worry and risk. You need to be thinking long term, and that risk is a constant distraction and is not healthy for your business. If you're in a controversial or high-risk industry, like firearm or vape products, the flexibility that Magento provides, like being able to move to a different host or select a new payment provider, means that someone can't just tell you no. Basically, you have options and there's not just one provider that can completely shut you down. The next reason to choose Magento over Shopify is control. Sometimes you really need control and other times you really just want control. If you're in heavily regulated industries like pharmaceutikals, it may be absolutely necessary for you to have full control over your tiknology stack. Perhaps there are certain tiknologies you want to use, like AWS or Azure, or you have your own system administrators and want full control over your hosting stack. That makes Magento a no brainer versus Shopify. I also often tok to merchants that just don't like or trust SaaS platforms. I don't really know where this deep-seated hate comes from. They just don't care for the business model at all, Regardless of any benefit, just not a fan. If you're one of these people, then I'm not really sure why you're watching this video. you've already made your decision, But I appreciate your support and thanks for watching. I guess The next reason to choose Magento over Shopify is b2b. B2b e-commerce is a whole different animal than b2c. Negotiated pricing, quotes, corporate accounts are all things that are bare minimum to meet customer demands. The flexibility of Magento also allows you to craft custom user experiences specific to your industry and products if you really want to do b2b right. Magento also has the flexibility needed to handle the most complex data needs. You can tie it into whatever poorly thought-out and archaic back office systems you may have cobbled together over the last 20 years. And the next reason to choose Magento over Shopify is flexibility and scalability. Most e-commerce platforms are designed to provide middle-of-the-road functionality that appeals to a large collection of merchants. In some cases, that may not provide everything you need to execute on your e-commerce vision. If you're gonna step outside of the norm and build something extremely custom, then you have more options with the flexibility that comes with the open source nature of the Magento platform. As far as scalability goes, you can build an empire on Magento. Now, before we get into this, I know someone is going to bring up some merchants like Kylie Cosmetiks, which is shopping shining example of scale on the platform. What I'm toking about in this section is not about pure sales. Kylie Cosmetiks is a unicorn and is not representative of your business. It has scale without complexity. They're doing hundreds of millions of dollars online with like four employees. Now that may be what you wish your business was like, but it ain't you. You figure out how to replicate that without involving one of my family members in a sex tape or ass implants. and you make the videos and I'll watch and learn And for that kind of money I'd probably compromise on the ass implants. What I'm toking about is the complexity of scale and providing a unified eCommerce experience across that business. Do you have a chain of physical stores and need to integrate your website's order management and inventory across these locations, As in, your customers can see the inventory in their local store order it pick it up this afternoon? Magento can do that. Do you have five or ten international brands that all need ecommerce experiences that are optimized for multiple languages and fully integrated with your back office systems? Magento can do that on one installation. If your goals are world domination or your business has a lot of complexity, then Magento is an obvious choice. The next reason to choose Magento over Shopify is innovation. If you want to be ahead of the curve of tiknology or user experiences, then you're gonna need the flexibility that an open-source platform provides. A big example right now is progressive web apps and headless ecommerce. There are ways to build a PWA on Shopify. However, unless your needs are basic, you'll eventually run into some feature that needs to be customized or custom-built, depending on what it is. If you're on a SaaS platform like Shopify, then you may not have the ability to do that customization. So if your desire is to be an innovator, then open-source is going to be better for you than SaaS. so Magento is going to win over Shopify. There are a ton of features that you need to consider to ultimately decide which platform is best for you. Hopefully, however, these five things, if they apply to you, make that call just a little bit easier. I'm going to also give you five reasons why Shopify might be better for you. Once that's ready, I'll pop it up on the screen here, along with another video that might be of interest to you. If these big Magento selling points don't speak to you, then check Shopify video out and see if that is a better fit for your business. If you've watched both and still aren't sure which is a right fit for you, or are having trouble narrowing it down and just want to tok about it, then head over to Jamersancom. J A M E R S A N com. shoot me a message and we can schedule some time to discuss. Otherwise, let me know your thoughts in the comments of this video. How to Migrate from Magento to Shopify (2022 Complete Guide for eCommerce Migration)

[Music]. if you're looking to migrate from magento one or two to shopify, this video is for you. at optimum 7, we've done thousands of migrations like this and we understand the data process. we push everything, including your products, customers, orders, options- through the api and we validate this data. this way, you don't have any broken pages. you don't have any broken data, since the database structures of magento and shopify are different. one of the most essential things that you should not forget is the 301 redirects. at optimum 7, we include this in our migration process, since it's key that you don't lose sales, organic visibility or conversions. watch the rest of the video to see at what level we do a migration like this. this documentation shows migration from bigcommerce to shopify, but it's essentially the same documentation that we've created for all the different platforms. the steps might change, the details might change, the api might change, but the process remains the same. so if you look at the bigcommerce to shopify process here, as you can see, we have database commands, we have migration commands and we have the entire url structures and everything, because different platforms have different url structures and the different special characters limitations. there are so many exceptions, right? not only that, if you look at our github account. on github, we have done these migrations before, so we have full code on how we validate the products, the customers, the orders, how we tie them together, how we process html- if you have html on your product pages on bigcommerce that need to move over to shopify. now bigcommerce and shopify manage options and variables differently. right, there is actually some sort of limitation on shopify with your options where you cannot have unlimited options. so we evaluate all of this information through our code, because we've done this thousands of times and if you look at this, you'll see all kinds of migration processes here and every single piece of code basically makes sure that we validate this information through the api. this is not an export, import of a csv file. you cannot do migration for a website that does millions of dollars annually through an automated software. software is not going to validate any of this. now, if you want to look at the documentation, there's a more detailed documentation that we have here. it has all these types of manual links. it has the different exceptions based on. you know what you can do on b commerce, but what you cannot do on shopify, vice versa again, character limitations, the special characters, the errors, um that you might have, and we do all of this through our process here. as you can see, this is a very, very detailed execution. why do we do it this way? because it's very important that you don't lose organic ranks and you don't get 404s, because your traffic is going to drop, your sales are going to drop. it's very painful. we have a lot of prospects that used automated software and the migration did not go well and they didn't work with an export. and they come back and they're like: well, we lost 50 of our traffic, we want, we lost 60 of our sales. so you don't want that to happen to you. the last thing is, if you actually again go to optimum 7.com forward slash migrations page, you will see- let me show you that really quickly- you will see a detailed checklist that you can download here, the 125 step platform migration checklist, and that checklist looks like this. it will help you throughout the process. you know the platform selection, the planning, the actual migration, the storefront, the backend, the checkout, the data, the integration and anything that has to do with the marketing, social media tracking as well. i strongly suggest that you download this because it will help you plan your entire migration process. now, of course, we want everybody to do their due diligence. you know, whenever you do this kind of migration, uh, look at examples, look at case studies of whomever you're going to work with. um, i'll show you some from optimum 7.. you know, we migrated rc superstore. it's a site that we worked on- specialist id, good counsel, teach to your door, echoing close. and if you actually look at this like what happened after the migration process, i think we migrated this site in 2016.. i think we migrated this in 2017- you'll see the database growth in terms of organic visibility. so their metrics have actually improved, because whenever you do a platform migration, you want to go to a speed and mobile first website and you have to pay attention to the, to the mobile usability metrics and you have to make certain improvements to design and, from a conversion standpoint, you have to implement certain functionalities like search and filter, and this is all an effect of that, because google pays attention to how peop, because everybody has analytiks- google pays attention to how your users and your customers interact with your website. okay, so do your due diligence, definitely to go through the process, but this is very, very important: please, please, make sure you do the three zero and redux properly at the end. that's one of the most important aspects of this: you don't want to lose your ranks, you don't want to lose money, you don't want to lose the authority that you've worked so hard to build, and if you have any questions, please let us know. thank you, i hope that this video was helpful. if you have any questions, please reach out to us at optimum7.com. you can always email info optimum 7.com or click the link below [Music]. thank you for watching this video. subscribe to our channel for more videos on marketing, e-commerce, custom development and much more, plus new episodes of surge, our weekly e-commerce and digital marketing podcast, released every wednesday.

Migrate Customers from Magento 2 to Shopify

to migrate from magenta or version2 to Shopify. again, you can use Excel, if I app. and let's switch to the Magento and I'll sign in into the demo Magento store where I have set up a couple of customers here and just to demonstrate how you can migrate them from magenta to Shopify using excel file. so at first you go to the system and choose export, and here are those entity types you need to choose from. and here in the second Magento version you actually have two files for customers because for some reason they decided they need to split them into the main file and the addresses file, and so you would need to export both of those files. so first of all you choose the customers main file to the CSV, click this check box to fields enclosure and then scroll down and press Continue. that will download the first pile. then scroll back up, choose customer addresses, again scroll down, press continue and that's it. you have now both CSV files here, and now you just zip them into a zip file so that both files are in the same zip file, and you will name it to Magento customers. basically, it can be whatever name, just it needs to contain a name: Magento and customers, and that's why Excel, if I will know that those are magenta customers. okay, now in the Excel, with my app, you scroll down to the import section and here you press and choose that zip file. it's getting uploaded and instantly you will see that it was recognized as the format Magento CSV and it found two customers and it's ready to import. but you can do a step in between to be able to improve your data quality. you can press this checkbox to dry-run to just generate the excel file, format file, but don't import those customers yet into the Shopify. and now, if you press the import, it will just generate the excel file with human readable customers, which you can then improve. here's our input results file. we download it and now what? let's see what's inside. alright, let's make it fit nicely. and now here is the email, the Magento website, which maybe you need, maybe not, but it will not be that important, just so that you see what. what is it? the first name, last name, a bunch of information put as tags, including the v80 information and all the gender and such things. and here will be the phone and the magenta phone should, so that you see it originally, as it is there that you can import the password, if you want, put some notes and so on. and here, if you will put true for, for example, like this, to send account activation email, the, while importing the excel file, will trigger Shopify to send the activation email to the customer to activate the new account. here also the same for the welcome email. and now here comes addresses, and you notike, probably, that your email comes two times because there's just two addresses for this email and that's why each row takes one address. and here again notike this that this is the Magento address, phone as it is written in the Magento. but since Shopify requires you to import all phone numbers with the country international dial code, so xfi, automatikally you're calling codes for each country where they are missing. you see, here we have it and there we don't have it and that's why we are adding it here. I takes it from the country code, here, like here is Latvia, so it added. and from you for United States, it sees that it's already starting with plus one, so it doesn't add anything. also it puts the meta fields. here is the date of birth as it is in Magento, and also a v8 Eid. if, if you had it, it was, it would be written here. yeah, pretty much. this is how you can like: clean up your data, review everything, that everything is fine, and then save this file, close it, then again go to excel- if I a p-- and this time upload, choose that excel file which you improved, upload it again and this time just press import and in a few seconds it should start importing and show you how far it's been, and you just wait until it finishes and that's it, it's done. two new customers are created. now if we go to add main customers, we will see them here and and here. if you open this customer. you remember I had two addresses and here they are. both of the histories are here, one with the lighting and phone number, the other with the United States. all the tags are here and yeah, that's. that's basically how it works. and if you have any questions, open our excel file website and, of course, you can browse around here with a bunch of tutorials and how it works. definitely read this one and if you get stuck on anything, just press the contact us page and reach us by the live chat or email or slide quark space and yep, we'll see you around. bye. [Music] you.
