Black Friday 2009 - Half Price Books and Office Max Ad

Good afternoon! It's October 22nd, 2009, and we are just around 35 days away from Black Friday 2009. Welcome back to the Black Friday News Network. My name is Big Jim Slade from GotADeal.com, and we are here to discuss Black Friday.

Firstly, I would like to thank all the viewers from last year and this year who wrote kind notes, emails, and comments, bringing back the Black Friday webcast. If you have any suggestions or comments, please find us at GotADeal.com and send us an email.

Today, we have a lot of stuff to discuss. We'll cover Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City, and two Black Friday ads. So, let's get started.

Walmart's New Black Friday Policy:

Rumors suggest that Walmart is changing the way they do Black Friday due to last year's incident when a customer trampled a temporary worker, resulting in his death. Walmart is currently in litigation over the matter, with lawsuits filed, and even OSHA getting involved.

The new policy involves handing tickets, maps, and rules to customers, and customers will have to line up outside the store. Once inside, customers will have to follow the rules, and there will be extra law enforcement present. The customers will then hand their tickets to an employee at a table, who will verify them, give them the item they want, escort them to the registers, and then escort them out of the store.

Best Buy's Competitor Circuit City is Out of Business:

Best Buy's major competitor, Circuit City, is no longer in business. Some people might argue that Walmart is their competitor in some locations and markets, but Best Buy is the only big chain retailer left. However, this also worries me that Best Buy may not get some good deals this year because they are the only game in town.

Black Friday Ads:

Half Price Books is one of the largest used book retailers, and they sell anything printed or recorded, from books, magazines, records, CDs, DVDs, VHS, Beta tapes, board games, etc. In this year's ad, if you spend $25 or more, you get a free calendar with monthly coupons for 15% to 20% off. The first 100 customers get a tote bag and a $5 gift card. Everything in the store is 20% off from 7 to 10 am on Black Friday.

OfficeMax's leaked ad shows some excellent deals, including Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 and Adobe Premiere Elements 8 for $49. They also have great deals on wireless all-in-one printers from HP, digital cameras, and a Magellan RoadMate 1440 GPS for $69.99.

It's about 35 days until Black Friday, and we are expecting a lot more ads to come out. If you want to join the discussion, please go to GotADeal.com and hit the forums button to register for free. Black Friday is one of the biggest shopping events of the year, and we will keep you updated with the latest news and deals.
