The WORST Products to AVOID Dropshipping (Don't Make these Mistakes!)

hey guys, dean here, shopify dropshipping can be extremely frustrating, especially when you're creating your own store for the very first time. you're going to go through a ton of trial and error and you're probably going to spend almost all of your starting budget just testing out products which may or may not fail and trying to find that first winning product. that's the problem and the hurdle which a lot of people run over. now in this video i'm going to show you some of the worst products and the worst product types which you can start drop shipping and why you shouldn't be selling them. hopefully this will save you guys a ton of money and cut through a lot of those first mistakes you're gonna make by watching these tips. definitely avoid these products, because it's gonna save you a ton of time and money. so the first one is furniture items. so reselling furniture and repurposing it or cleaning it up and repairing it can actually be a pretty good business. i know from youtube i've watched a lot of videos where people buy old or use furniture, clean it up with cleaning supplies and make it look a lot more pleasant, and then they sell it and mark it up for a profit and they can make a little bit of profit per one and they buy them on websites like craigslist, for an example, ebay, facebook marketplace, and that can be quite a good business model. but buying and selling furniture via a drop shipping business is a pretty terrible idea. so let me tell you why. if you want to start brand sure you could start selling furniture right, but we're toking about the drop ship space, the reason why furniture is a really terrible one for drop shipping. i shouldn't really have to explain this, but it's way too heavy for the very cheap shipping methods, which is where you're going to be making your profit. because you want to save money on the shipping methods in dropshipping and you want to try and make a profit off marking up the items right. you don't want to increase the cost value on the shipping for start. that's really bad and this causes size and weight restrictions because furniture pieces are extremely heavy. it's not like you're shipping some kind of fancy necklace or some viral item which is really light. it just doesn't work out, trust me. then we have electric guitars, so this is kind of like a weight issue again, but this is just generally instruments as a whole or heavy instruments, because guitars to source wholesale for a start can actually be quite expensive. usually it's going to go over at least 100 mark for a new one or a decent quality one which is going to sell, which is not really a good ballpark range for beginners who are just getting into dropshipping. i also think the price is already too high to buy a guitar to start off with, to add on an additional amount to make it worthwhile and make a decent profit off flipping it. so i think it's a really bad product to actually sell. now we're using guitars as an example. this applies to most instruments, but especially electric guitars. the profit is not really there. it's too heavy to ship and it's just impossible to sell, especially because it's not really a unique item. just think about it. there's always those people that you come across and it's always your friends or family when you go into your friend's house. every single person has a guitar which they don't play or use. it's not a unique item. everyone already has one and they'll just go to the music store and buy one if they need one. so it's definitely one of the worst products i think you could sell on a drop shipping store. then the next one is generic clothing, so this might not apply to you if you're creating some kind of private label brand or if you're creating some kind of brand designed around a clothing fashion line. but this only seems to work with people who are influencers, people already have an influence, or who brand and then design their shirts or clothes to look like something unique. right, we're toking about generic clothing, so generic products that are not very appealing, like generic coloured shirts that people could buy anywhere or that they don't really feel like they should buy because it's not very special. remember, even if the shirts are pretty cool, like, for an example, i had some shopify video a few days ago where i showed that there was an anime shirt which was a so-called winning product, but i don't really think it was going to sell, regardless of it being a fan shirt. plus, there's already really established clothing brands and clothing lines which are going to undercut you and offer them for much cheaper. for an example, i could go on amazon right now and order clothes for super cheap with completely free prime shipping, okay, and i could do that in an instant and it can come tomorrow. that's the kind of the services which you're competing against with really basic products. i could also go into town right now and go to a clothing store and get a shirt for like five pounds- which is probably like seven dollars- for a really cheap price, instantly right. so the profit just isn't there. on generic items, if you're making a branded clothing line with custom designs, now that's a completely different story, but if you drop shipping generic clothing and fashion pieces, it's not a really good idea on a drop shipping store unless that clothing is a unique item or it's based around your actual store brand as a whole, which has some kind of identity to it. clothing and fashion niche based stores benefit of trading clothing items or selling flashy items that are unique, so generic items are just not really sellable, in my opinion. then the next one is counterfeit products. i don't really think i have to explain this, but let me give you the reason why you shouldn't be selling counterfeit products, because i've been seeing people sell things like fake shoes and fake items on instagram and you may run into problems even if you sell in your own shopify store. this is because fake designer clothes or fake designer shoes- for example, fake jordans or fake yeezys- cannot be promoted on social media. for a start, it's against their terms of service, right? it poses a legal problem only to you as a seller, because the way that you're actually obtaining them, which is usually from china, they are the only ones that can kind of get away with it and skirt past the legal regulations, because in their country it doesn't really have that as an issue right. so when you buy them from china, if you try and resell them in the west, you're going to run into legal problems and you can get sued for it, which is a problem. and if you would just go and buy some, you probably wouldn't run into any issues, right. but if you're selling them, that's a copyright problem and then you become the person selling them rather than the consumer. so you can definitely be sued or charged when doing that. also, remember, most counterfeit products- unless you pay a decent amount for like one-to-one quality versions or replicas, they're always going to be low quality, so low-quality counterfeit products. they usually leave the customers with some kind of discontent and disappointed, especially if you misbrand them or mislabel them and lie and say that they're genuine and they find out that they're not, which will lead to bad store reviews, people complaining, possibly a louder message and number of complaints, which also could then make it more likely for you to get into legal problems. so it's just a bad circle and i won't recommend jumping on that, even through instagram, trying to do it low-key. i really don't recommend trying to sell fake shoes and counterfeit products like that. it's just not worth it in the long run. it's best to rebrand brandable shoes or things that you can put logos on or get some kind of manufacturer later. if you want to create your own shoes or sell cool shoes, you could. however, also instead of selling cans for shoes, a different alternative would be- i wouldn't say for drop shipping, but like an ecom store, you could buy real shoes, like real nike sho.


How To Not Be SUED When Shopify Dropshipping (Legal Issues)

alright, what's going on y'all? I've got a very important video for y'all today and that's actually dealing with the legal side of Shopify dropshipping- everyone. so I get someone that comes and asks me how to avoid getting sued when to form their business, and these are actually very, very important questions that a lot of beginners skip over, and there's been people- and I know of some people personally- that have been sued doing Shopify dropshipping. there's some things you definitely need to avoid. so that's what we're gonna cover today. I'm first gonna go ahead and cover the question having to deal with forming your business, getting your business legally set up, so with the LLC d/b/a, all of that. we'll go ahead and cover that, and then I'm gonna tell you about something you absolutely need to avoid: to avoid being sued, like some other people. but before you get into, if you guys could please do me a huge favor, smash that like button down below, hit subscribe. if you haven't already leave a comment, I'd love to go in connectors. you guys answer any questions you might have, alright? so the first question that we're gonna cover is when to actually form your business and how should you go about forming your business. this is a question I get asked, probably about once a week. it's a very, very good and a very, very important question. so what I recommend to beginners is that you actually start with a sole proprietorship. once you actually become profitable and you might have a little bit of consistency with profitability, that's when you should then go ahead and form your LLC. once you then form your LLC, you're going to get better tax benefits. it's gonna give you an extra added layer of protection in case of a lawsuit or any any problem that comes up. in that sense, it's going to give me an extra layer of barrier. so there's there's definitely a lot of benefits to forming an LLC. so now I also get the question: if you want to have multiple dropshipping businesses. let's say you've got a general store and then you want to have a mid-level niche store, you get a mid-level in each store and you want to have several specific niche stores, but they're all tiknically different businesses. how should you form that? so what I typically recommend is that you go ahead and you have an umbrella LLC or holding LLC and then you can go ahead and set DBAs up underneath that parent LLC, and that that's the way a lot of people go ahead and set it up now everything I'm toking about today. I'm not an attorney and I'm not an accountant, I'm not a CPA, so everything that I'm recommending to you is what's been recommended to me by my CPA, my legal counsel, everything like that, and it's been what I've been doing for the last couple years and what a lot of other people in ecommerce are doing as well. so that's what I suggest: go ahead, get profitability, then go ahead and form your LLC and then, when you want to have multiple dropshipping businesses, have a holding or a parent company set over top of that. now, this is obviously very specific to the United States. I don't know the exact specifics of every single country out there and I get questions all the time. I've many students in the dropship fortune program in Australia and Canada and United Kingdom, Netherlands, all over Europe, and obviously I can't speak to every single country's legalities regarding businesses, but that's something that you can easily go ahead and look into and check with an accountant or attorney, and it is very straightforward. guys, dropshipping, the business model can seem a little bit different than everything else, but it is very, very straightforward when it comes to actually forming your business. I then also get asked a question: how do you go about forming an LLC or forming a DBA. so there's a couple options you can do. if you want to go ahead and save money, you can go ahead and do this yourself and you'll need to go through your state's process. typically, they'll have you full it fill out forms. you need to run back and forward to a couple places. this is going to save you money, but it is going to take more work and it's going to take more time. if you want to save your time and your work and not to spend that- but you're gonna spend a little bit more- you can have a company like Legal Zoom legalisms, who I use. you can have Legal Zoom go ahead and form your LLC or your DBA for you and they'll go ahead and cover absolutely everything. takes, you know, about fifteen to thirty days. you'll have everything sent back to you. you'll get your full G I n- everything that you need for tax identification purposes and is very, very simple and straightforward. all right. so now let's cover a very, very important question, and that's why certain people have been sued doing Shopify dropshipping, and I actually know of someone in person- I know them- that have actually been sued because of Shopify drop shipping and many other people have at least been threatened to be sued over this. so one thing: a lot of beginners do that I see. so go ahead and just grab any image offline to use on the store, use with their products, using their advertising. you guys can't do that. you have to make sure that it's copyright free. so there's three methods that I suggest using when you go about this. so the very first one is: if you want to go ahead and use Google images, you need to go ahead and search by available for reuse. you need to look for a reuse license. this means that you are allowed to reuse this picture on your store for advertising, whatever you want, and this has been a mistake a lot of beginners have made. they think they can just come in and do this, and many people have actually been sued because they use just a regular Google image that's actually copyrighted and then they get sued for it. and the scary part is there's actually people that their entire job, the way they make money, is, they'll post a picture to Google Images or a certain site, and they'll then go ahead and scan the internet. they'll use different tools to scan the internet to see if anybody else is using their image and then, when they do, that's when they go ahead and sue them and that's their whole business models. it's very, very shady and actually kind of scary that people do stuff like that. but people go ahead and essentially throw an image out there, copyright it and then scan for it to try to go ahead and sue someone for money. so you definitely want to protect yourself, now that the ways I like to protect myself as actually using high quality, royalty-free image sites, and these sites have been using for years now and I've actually been toking about them for you and there several out there. two of them - the biggest ones that I like to use are pixels, calm and stok snap. I Oh. both of these are great and the beautiful thing about these is they're high-quality images. now you can also go ahead and pay for images on something like Shutterstok. that's also protecting you. but if you want to go the free route, you can go ahead and look on a site like pixels or stok snap and it's going to give you that high quality image. now, pro tip: once you go ahead and download one of these images, run it through a free online compressor. this will go ahead and protect your site speed with your e-commerce site, so you're not actually losing loading speed with one of these good images on your stuff, but this is gonna help your branding go even further. you, you wouldn't believe how many times I see when I go on people's Shopify store and the very first thing I see is their header photo and it's not compressed. their site loads really slow and it's not a high quality image. it looks really grainy and just not good and you want to go ahead and have that good branding guys. so that's the big tip. so those are the things I wanted to go and cover today. these are questions I get all the time: forming your business and then not getting sued by using copyright images- now, both of these topics that can go in great detail. on each one, there's a lot of specifics, especially with the the legality of

I don't know its its name, I don't climb rocks anyway. you've got the point. it's risky, like people could die easily with this kind of stuff and you don't want to have some debt of somebody on your on your conscience. so better avoiding this kind of product. so the second type of product is what I like to call mainstream products, and by mainstream product means that the products we can find in every store, around the corner or supermarket or everywhere, even online on on the most famous website. it's something like you can't compete with, with, with, with those places there. and it's not some product that's gonna give some wall effect, like oh my god, I want this tall, will it look so bad-ass? or or this cup. or like toilet paper like oh my god, this toilet paper is infinite, or something. there are things we can find everywhere, so better avoiding this kind of of stuff and focusing on more product that can like, like, create some impulse purchase with the customer, like you see it, you can see, can't resist and he, he go and buy. not like some product like think, okay, but there is one in the mercado and the supermarkets are around the corner. I go and I get one type, number three, it's clothing. clothing, because let's say that you start first thing with clothing, unless if you are doing some, some prints on the map- prints on demand is another story, but I'm toking about proper clothing. you know, selling, selling clothes, like boxer, like, like pants, like anything, anything. you know, sure, t-shirt. what happens is that this size in China are very different from the size in the country where you are selling, like even here in Brazil, like the size of difference from, from the US and from Europe. each country is have its specific size. and when I li expressed like this happening to me, I was selling some clothes and in very beginning and I had a lot of refund because people received the item and the size doesn't match. so, like, like, you sell for somebody some em and what she gets is some Excel or X Excel or X success and this is not cool. so personally I don't recommend a lot. not only that, but the other reason is that when you start selling clothing, you are competing with some big famous brands like Zara, like, like Libby Strauss, like you know so, and you are bringing some some some very random clothes, very normal that people could buy better quality at sub more famous brand and why would they buy from you at first? and if they buy for you from you, like, they will receive the item and the size won't match and it will get a refund. it won't be cool. and and number for that I don't recommend- and I see many doing this mistake- is trademark product, unless you get a license from the brand. because when you start selling some trademark products, what you can, you have many risks. first risk is that you lose your Shopify payments or stripe payments. second one is to lose your PayPal payments because people don't accept said in trademark item on same for Shopify payments and stripes same for for, unless if you have some high-risk payment processor. and and the other thing is that you can lose also your facebook ad account because it's AG and it against the terms of use of Facebook. so better avoid in selling anything- Star Wars, Pokemon, Marvel, anything, as long as it is a brand, or some Nike, some fake Nike, or some fake Sony, Panasonic, anything that is a big brand. better avoid in selling it to not be in trouble, to not use your, your Facebook ad accountant, to not lose your, your, your payment processors. so that's it for this video. if you found it useful, thumbs up. and if you're new to the channel, don't forget to subscribe and also leave me in the comment section. like what, if you have some question, either about this or if you have any question, leave that on the comments and I try to develop this in the next video, like I can make a video about some specific questions and go a little bit in depth. thank you for watching and see you in the next one. Top 5 Products to Avoid Dropshipping From China and Some to be Careful of From a Supply Chain Angle

hi everyone. this is daiya from ecom ops. today i'm going to tok about five types of products that you should really avoid trying to drop ship or fulfilling from china from a supply chain perspective, and we're also going to have a bonus toking about some products that you might be careful of, especially if you're drop shipping for various reasons. all right, let's go so first, starting with the products that you definitely do not want to drop ship or fulfill from china and the reasons why. so there are a couple reasons. so one: some products are just inherently difficult to ship. you know they might be breakable, whatever it might be, and you're just going to have a lot of issues shipping them. the other reason is that some types of products, they're just going to be completely restricted in terms of shipping lines, or maybe you can't even ship them at all. now, it's not saying that if you run an e-commerce store, you can't fulfill these type of products, but these are probably the types of products that you do not want to be shipping from china. but you might want to be sea freighting it over to a us warehouse and shipping it from the us in no partikular order, starting with number one, and that's oversized products. so there's actually two types of oversized products that might be an issue. so first is just literally oversized. so most efficient shipping methods: epacket, unit, express, special lines. they have limits on the size of a package. so, typically speaking, it is the height times, length times width in centimeters. it cannot be, uh, greater than 90 centimeters in any one dimension, can't be longer than 60 centimeters, uh. so, for example, i don't know, you're probably not going to do this, but if you're trying to sell a sofa, for example, it's just not going to work, it's going to be way oversized. you just literally can't ship it by these usual fulfillment lines. the other reason why you want to avoid kind of oversized products is that they might not be oversized but you actually want to avoid products that are very high volume, like just very big but very light. so let's say you want to sell a pillow- i guess you know a feather pillow. the reason you don't want to avoid that is because pretty much every line- and, by the way, this includes, uh, some local lines as well- is that when something is super big but also very, very light, they're going to charge you for what's called a volumetric weight. now every line is going to be a little bit different, but in the example of a pillow, a pillow might actually weigh something like a couple hundred grams, but it's massive, and if you don't like vacuum seal it, then by volumetric weight it might actually be something like one kilogram, for example, and although it's shippable, but you definitely do not want to be paying the prices of a one kilogram package if something is much lighter. so definitely something you want to avoid as well. now, the second type of products that you probably want to avoid shipping from china, especially now, are super heavy products. uh, if you want to sell dumbbells, for example, do not ship them from china. so, first of all, many lines e-packet, many unixpress lines. they have a weight limit. many of them are actually two kilograms, which is actually not that much. i mean, you know, if you ship a heavy dumbbell it's gonna be way over two kilograms. uh, some lines have maybe 20 to 30 kilograms, but still, if you're shipping something super, super heavy, it's just going to limit you in the lines you can use and the countries that you can ship to. not only that, though, especially now, shipping prices are still pretty high because of kova disruption. so shipping prices are directly calculated by weight, which means the heavier something is, the much, much more expensive it is, because they're they have to be going on these freight planes and freight space is expensive and it's calculated by weight. so if you're selling something that's really heavy, more than a couple kilograms like, honestly, you want to reconsider it. i have very rarely seen our clients, at least recently, get very successful with something that's very heavy, even if it's shippable, because it's too expensive to ship. the third type of products you really want to avoid- shipping from china or internationally- are just really fragile items. let's take a wine glass or a pack of wine glasses. you really want to avoid that. the problem is that international shipping is a little bit brutal, like stuff gets packed on planes, especially direct parcels, like they're not put in nice pallets, they get put in planes and then also they also have to face the rigors of local shipping as well and that processing, uh, you know processing stage, and if you're selling something like a wine glass, uh, you're gonna see breakage rates of like anywhere between 10 to 50 even, depending on how well your supplier packs it, and the problem is that the better your supplier packs it, i mean, for example, you can actually pack it in like a rock solid box, for example, but that's going to add so much weight that it's going to kill all your margins anyways. so definitely avoid fragile items. the fourth type of product you really want to avoid are, uh, clearly, liquid products. you know, anything that's like liquid in a bottle. uh, the reason being is that a lot of these types of products they cannot be shipped on planes. uh, you know, on most lines now there are some e-packet special liquid lines, but they're really not great and there's not that many options and they're going to be very, very inconsistent and just like not a lot of options to ship these liquids. now, that being said, there's some like very, if your liquid is very, very small, uh, like, if you're selling mascara, that tends to be more okay. if you're selling like a small tub of cream, that tends to be more okay as well. but definitely avoid pure liquid products. and finally, the, the fifth category of products you really want to avoid, or you just can't ship, are going to be single batteries, and that includes battery packs. that includes, uh, products that act like a battery pack. uh, it's, it's. it's just not possible on planes and, honestly, it's kind of irresponsible as well. now, batteries within products are okay on certain lines, but single batteries, uh, no planes are going to allow it, if they know, and the reason why it's irresponsible is because single batteries, uh, or power banks, they don't have a closed circuit, so they are actually a fire hazard and they hold a charge as well, and it's something that we actually do not ever do. there are definitely these kind of shady lines that kind of just just try to hide it, but it's a literal fire risk. so if you want to do power banks, you definitely have to figure out how to use sea freight and get it to a local warehouse and use ground shipping. by the way, even if you're shipping in the us or not, a lot of planes either you have to use actually ground shipping in order to get them to the destination, all right. so those are the products that i definitely do not uh advise you to ship at all from china and next up. i want to tok about a couple products that you probably want to have some special considerations for. you can do it, but you definitely want to be careful and mindful of these considerations. the first one is going to be sort of liquids. i kind of toked about this before earlier as well, but stuff like mascaras, for example, or creams, they can be shipped. however, they definitely do need to be shipped with care. they need to be shipped on the right lines. some countries are just going to have issues with them, and your supplier needs to declare them carefully as well in terms of customs. now i won't go into details there, but if you're going to ship something like that, make sure you work with a supplier fulfillment agent who actually knows what they're doing, and if they're telling you that they have to use a special line or do a certain thing packed in a certain way, definitely trust them on that. the second one is going to be products with batteries in them. now, you can't ship batteries on any line b.

accessory for that product. i've experienced this a lot with things that are like expensive cases for things or anything like that, because sometimes you know the photo might show, uh, whatever the item is in a fancy case and you know the listing is for the case, because we're trying to say, look, this is, this is the case. you can put the thing in it, you know it's, it's gonna look great. but then the casual buyer scrolls past, sees it and they think that they're actually getting a deal on the item and just misses that it's for the case- cases for electric razors, cases for car battery things, just uh, you know stuff like that. it's not even really that the item itself is the problem. it's just that the casual buyer scrolling past will often think, oh hey, i'm ordering this thing, uh, rather than an accessory for this thing. unfortunately, it's just a fact that the average buyer is pretty lazy. they just scroll, see something- oh, that looks good, and then buy it without really reading into it too much. so that's the first type of item to avoid and you don't have to so much totally avoid it. it's more that you just have to make sure that the listing does not in any way seem like they're getting the product. it's very clear that they're getting an accessory for the product from just a quick half a second glance at it. the second type of product to avoid drop shipping is any kind of product where you're not entirely sure of the size. i listed a fancy looking plastik chair. it looked like it would belong at a wedding or something like that. a very fancy looking plastik kind of outdoorsy chair turns out it was a very overpriced doll chair. i wasn't misleading about the product at all. great photos, it looked exactly the same. the only issue was, rather than being a chair, it was a chair. got a whole bunch of sales pretty quickly on the item, like maybe five, six, seven, something like that, and then at least six of them returned it. and once again this problem was totally caused by buyers scrolling through really quickly, ordering something without reading all the details. they're just: yep, that looks good, bought it and, uh, it ended up being exactly what they bought, but this big and not that big, and i didn't specify the size because, uh, i didn't realize either. before we move on to the third kind of item to finish listing, i should mention what i did to uh, sort of resolve that problem, because i didn't want to stop selling that item, but i didn't want any buyers to get confused anymore. so what i did is i had one of the returns shipped to my house and then i held the chair in my hand and took a photo of it, because then any casual buyers scrolling past are going to see a massive hand holding a chair and be like, oh wait, maybe, uh, maybe that's not a lawn chair that i can go sit in, maybe that's a doll sized chair. that was the solution that i came up with, at least, and i got a couple more sales on it, but, uh, not really any returns after that. all right. the third kind of item to avoid listing are items where the photos make it look like the buyer is going to get a whole lot more than they actually do, for example, a kids ball pit, but it's just for the frame and you don't get any of the balls that are in the ball pit or i don't know a single candy bar that's for sale, but then in the photo you're showing like a pack of six or something. using misleading photos is a bad idea because, while it can get you more sales, uh, it usually results in a lot more upset buyers which end up causing you problems. well guys, that's it
