00:02:09 00:02:12 you know any normal person that's
00:02:10 00:02:14 looking to start an online business is
00:02:12 00:02:15 probably googling is probably searching
00:02:14 00:02:17 so it's interesting to see pretty much a
00:02:15 00:02:19 billion dollar company
00:02:17 00:02:21 founder having done this and when they
00:02:19 00:02:24 started in 2011 it's really really cool
00:02:21 00:02:24 and you probably do the same exact stuff
00:02:27 00:02:30 we weren't building this business we
00:02:29 00:02:31 were building it because we were
00:02:30 00:02:32 desperate to be involved in the fitness
00:02:31 00:02:37 industry
00:02:32 00:02:37 that was it
00:02:39 00:02:44 so next year jim shark is 10 years old
00:02:42 00:02:46 but a lot of you might not know that it
00:02:44 00:02:48 was actually in 2011 that the gymshark
00:02:46 00:02:50 website was first created
00:02:48 00:02:52 meaning in a few months time the
00:02:50 00:02:54 gymshark website will be 10 years old so
00:02:52 00:02:54 we thought it'd be really cool to jump
00:02:54 00:02:56 on
00:02:54 00:02:57 wayback machine which for those of you
00:02:56 00:02:58 that don't know is a way of looking back
00:02:57 00:02:59 at
00:02:58 00:03:01 old archive websites throughout the
00:02:59 00:03:03 years and look so this is a really
00:03:01 00:03:05 really cool tool guys uh you know it's
00:03:03 00:03:06 very fun to go see
00:03:05 00:03:08 what old websites actually look like he
00:03:06 00:03:09 kind of glossed over this because
00:03:08 00:03:10 obviously the people watching this maybe
00:03:09 00:03:11 aren't going to go and necessarily use
00:03:10 00:03:12 this
00:03:11 00:03:14 but if you're somebody that wants to see
00:03:12 00:03:15 like how a website has developed over
00:03:14 00:03:17 time you want to see like how facebook
00:03:15 00:03:18 look like at a certain time
00:03:17 00:03:20 you can just go to google type in
00:03:18 00:03:22 wayback machine i think the website's
00:03:20 00:03:23 like archive.org slash wayback machine
00:03:22 00:03:24 or
00:03:23 00:03:26 or something like that and you can see
00:03:24 00:03:28 what websites look like back in the day
00:03:26 00:03:28 and that's exactly what he's doing right

00:03:34 00:03:38 over the last 10 years the reason behind
00:03:36 00:03:39 the gymshark website was i
00:03:38 00:03:41 just wanted a website that would
00:03:39 00:03:43 transact i've never had a website that
00:03:41 00:03:44 would sell things and i wanted this to
00:03:43 00:03:46 be the first one to do so
00:03:44 00:03:48 fortunately just googling around found
00:03:46 00:03:50 shopify and used it to build the first
00:03:48 00:03:54 june shop website and
00:03:50 00:03:54 here it is so back in 2011 we only
00:03:54 00:03:57 operated
00:03:54 00:03:58 under one url which was gymshark.com.uk
00:03:57 00:04:00 so
00:03:58 00:04:01 the first gymshark website like i said
00:04:00 00:04:04 it was built on shopify there was
00:04:01 00:04:06 actually a version before this that was
00:04:04 00:04:07 a lot more basic at this point there was
00:04:06 00:04:08 clothes and stuff on at the very
00:04:07 00:04:10 beginning it was
00:04:08 00:04:12 only supplements as you can see here
00:04:10 00:04:12 you've got muscletik which at the time
00:04:12 00:04:14 was
00:04:12 00:04:16 like a brand new supplement i think they
00:04:14 00:04:17 were just launching it that week
00:04:16 00:04:19 every single supplement was drop shipped
00:04:17 00:04:21 and it was because at the time
00:04:19 00:04:23 i was working at pizza i think i was on
00:04:21 00:04:25 about four pounds 90 an hour basically i
00:04:23 00:04:26 couldn't afford to buy stok to put onto
00:04:25 00:04:28 the website
00:04:26 00:04:30 so we loaded up the website with a lot
00:04:28 00:04:30 of the images we're missing because way
00:04:30 00:04:32 back so
00:04:30 00:04:33 again he glossed over this really really
00:04:32 00:04:35 quickly but i think this is something a
00:04:33 00:04:36 lot of people that start any sort of
00:04:35 00:04:39 online business
00:04:36 00:04:40 they they they forget right slow startup
00:04:39 00:04:41 costs right
00:04:40 00:04:44 think about it he grossed over this as
00:04:41 00:04:46 well he said all i wanted to do was be
00:04:44 00:04:47 part of the fitness industry
00:04:46 00:04:48 like that was his mission statement when
00:04:47 00:04:50 he said that right and he said that
00:04:48 00:04:50 right at the start of the video he's
00:04:50 00:04:51 like i
00:04:50 00:04:53 just wanted to be part of the fitness
00:04:51 00:04:55 industry i didn't care how right
00:04:53 00:04:56 and that was his motivation right that
00:04:55 00:04:58 was his passion that's his niche right
00:04:56 00:04:58 that's how we found the job so i always
00:04:58 00:05:01 say
00:04:58 00:05:02 be go into niches that you're in joy
00:05:01 00:05:03 that you're passionate about because
00:05:02 00:05:05 it's gonna be so difficult for you to
00:05:03 00:05:06 grow a business in some stuff that you
00:05:05 00:05:08 don't enjoy right
00:05:06 00:05:10 it's torture right and then he goes into
00:05:08 00:05:11 dropshipping he didn't let
00:05:10 00:05:13 his he was said to even hear that i
00:05:11 00:05:14 worked at pizza or i didn't even know
00:05:13 00:05:16 that i i must have missed that when i
00:05:14 00:05:17 was watching this earlier
00:05:16 00:05:19 but he was working at pizza for
00:05:17 00:05:21 basically minimum wage
00:05:19 00:05:22 and found a way to do it right a lot of
00:05:21 00:05:23 people that start an online business
00:05:22 00:05:24 like oh i don't have time i don't have
00:05:23 00:05:26 enough money to start you don't need a
00:05:24 00:05:28 lot of money to start you could see he
00:05:26 00:05:30 basically started with a shopify
00:05:28 00:05:31 free trial threw together a quick
00:05:30 00:05:32 website
00:05:31 00:05:34 and found a way to start making
00:05:32 00:05:36 transaction by drop shipping supplements
00:05:34 00:05:38 right this is low cost right you don't
00:05:36 00:05:40 have to buy bulk inventory
00:05:38 00:05:41 to drop ship products right it's on
00:05:40 00:05:42 demand so basically what he's doing with
00:05:41 00:05:43 these supplements when they were
00:05:42 00:05:44 starting is
00:05:43 00:05:46 this muscle tik or whatever that
00:05:44 00:05:48 company was called right when somebody
00:05:46 00:05:49 would come to gymshark.com at uk and buy
00:05:48 00:05:50 from him
00:05:49 00:05:52 that order would go to the supplier and
00:05:50 00:05:53 then that supplier would send it out to
00:05:52 00:05:54 the customer right
00:05:53 00:05:56 so you could see like that kind of
00:05:54 00:05:58 attitude that he has it's like
00:05:56 00:05:59 don't quit like don't i don't you do a
00:05:58 00:06:02 lot of people that
00:05:59 00:06:03 go into trying to do something right
00:06:02 00:06:04 especially when you're building online
00:06:03 00:06:06 business is like they try and find
00:06:04 00:06:08 reasons to not do it
00:06:06 00:06:09 right for him his driving mission was
00:06:08 00:06:11 like i just want to be part of the
00:06:09 00:06:12 fitness industry right so what's maybe
00:06:11 00:06:13 something like that for you right and
00:06:12 00:06:15 this is so
00:06:13 00:06:16 so important keep it low risk low cost
00:06:15 00:06:17 guys especially because you don't know
00:06:16 00:06:18 what your
00:06:17 00:06:19 if your business is going to be
00:06:18 00:06:21 successful or not so it's always better
00:06:19 00:06:22 to start with a low-risk low-cost model
00:06:21 00:06:24 like drop shipping
00:06:22 00:06:26 because we archived them we loaded up
00:06:24 00:06:27 all these different supplements and if
00:06:26 00:06:29 someone would then
00:06:27 00:06:30 order one of the supplements someone
00:06:29 00:06:32 else would then ship it out and we would
00:06:30 00:06:34 make a very small margin on it
00:06:32 00:06:36 as you can see the website was on
00:06:34 00:06:37 gymshot.com we had this sort of little
00:06:36 00:06:39 tagline here where the result would
00:06:37 00:06:40 start here because it was all around
00:06:39 00:06:42 supplements and
00:06:40 00:06:44 nutrition at the time it's actually a
00:06:42 00:06:46 really good website it's
00:06:44 00:06:48 very basic but ultimately when you think
00:06:46 00:06:50 about the purpose of it
00:06:48 00:06:51 this website existed to transact and
00:06:50 00:06:54 just to help involve
00:06:51 00:06:55 i guess all of us in in the fitness
00:06:54 00:06:57 world which we were desperate to be a
00:06:55 00:06:58 part of when we were teenagers you can
00:06:57 00:06:59 see here
00:06:58 00:07:01 royal mail free first cash class
00:06:59 00:07:02 shipping or orders place before 4 p.m or
00:07:01 00:07:04 dispatch the same day
00:07:02 00:07:06 that is because at 4pm i would go to the
00:07:04 00:07:08 post office i would always do the royal
00:07:06 00:07:10 mail run to the post office just over
00:07:08 00:07:11 the road from mom and dad's house
00:07:10 00:07:13 and we just basically make sure that we
00:07:11 00:07:14 get any orders out the door
00:07:13 00:07:16 on the same day and that was more on the
00:07:14 00:07:17 clothing side so the clothes inside
00:07:16 00:07:18 would have been would have been
00:07:17 00:07:19 physically shipped
00:07:18 00:07:22 and the supplement line would have been
00:07:19 00:07:24 ordered online so this
00:07:22 00:07:25 was here we go you can see here jim
00:07:24 00:07:27 shark had teamed up and we've got the
00:07:25 00:07:28 capital s for shark which just really
00:07:27 00:07:29 upsets me
00:07:28 00:07:31 jim chugga teamed up with spreadshirt to
00:07:29 00:07:34 offer you discounted prices
00:07:31 00:07:35 what this basically is is we didn't know
00:07:34 00:07:37 that people would buy
00:07:35 00:07:39 product with jim shot logon we couldn't
00:07:37 00:07:40 afford at that point the screen printers
00:07:39 00:07:41 and the sewing machines and all that
00:07:40 00:07:43 sort of stuff so
00:07:41 00:07:46 if any of you have used spreadshirt it's
00:07:43 00:07:48 basically an online tool where you can
00:07:46 00:07:49 put your own designs onto the t-shirts
00:07:48 00:07:50 and then you can ship them out to
00:07:49 00:07:52 anywhere so that didn't really last long
00:07:50 00:07:54 to be honest but that was a really cool
00:07:52 00:07:56 way in a cost-effective way of us
00:07:54 00:07:58 essentially getting jim sharp product
00:07:56 00:07:59 made going back to this original website
00:07:58 00:08:01 which is interesting because a lot of
00:07:59 00:08:02 people get into the print on demand
00:08:01 00:08:04 model and
00:08:02 00:08:05 you know this is like one i guess i kind
00:08:04 00:08:06 of disagree with
00:08:05 00:08:09 because it's hard to sell shirts with
00:08:06 00:08:10 your logo right if customers haven't
00:08:09 00:08:12 purchased from you before unless you're
00:08:10 00:08:14 going after that kind of that lifestyle
00:08:12 00:08:15 brand but even so it's like well what's
00:08:14 00:08:18 the reason that they should wear
00:08:15 00:08:20 your brand right so me personally for
00:08:18 00:08:21 example with ecommerce empire builders
00:08:20 00:08:22 right nobody's going to wear an
00:08:21 00:08:23 ecommerce empire build or an empire
00:08:22 00:08:25 builder sure if they're not in our
00:08:23 00:08:27 community already
00:08:25 00:08:29 so that's a way that he was kind of like
00:08:27 00:08:30 supplementing the income of the people
00:08:29 00:08:32 that already purchasing from them right
00:08:30 00:08:34 has a cool logo slapping on a shirt he
00:08:32 00:08:35 was kind of doing i guess he was buying
00:08:34 00:08:36 a little bit more there
00:08:35 00:08:38 or printing them and then actually
00:08:36 00:08:39 shipping them physically right so think
00:08:38 00:08:41 about that that's actually something
00:08:39 00:08:42 that i used to do now man it's been a
00:08:41 00:08:43 long time
00:08:42 00:08:45 but i had one supplier that wouldn't
00:08:43 00:08:47 drop ship for me so i literally had him
00:08:45 00:08:49 ship some of these fishing lures
00:08:47 00:08:51 to my house and literally i would
00:08:49 00:08:52 package them up and they were very
00:08:51 00:08:54 very specific so we didn't have use a
00:08:52 00:08:56 fulfillment center for them and we'd
00:08:54 00:08:57 ship them out every single day before
00:08:56 00:08:59 going to the post office
00:08:57 00:09:00 right so don't let these kind of things
00:08:59 00:09:01 be excuses you know what i've seen is so
00:09:00 00:09:02 many
00:09:01 00:09:04 as maybe even you've said is like you
00:09:02 00:09:06 try to automate your entire business
00:09:04 00:09:07 before it's even off the ground
00:09:06 00:09:09 right don't be afraid to get your hands
00:09:07 00:09:11 dirty a little bit packing up some
00:09:09 00:09:12 products shipping it at the post office
00:09:11 00:09:14 right that's all part of the experience
00:09:12 00:09:15 and don't try to just like automate
00:09:14 00:09:18 everything in your business before you
00:09:15 00:09:20 even made a few bucks okay
00:09:18 00:09:22 totally quite interesting cause i went
00:09:20 00:09:23 back to have a look at some of the first
00:09:22 00:09:25 orders so
00:09:23 00:09:27 obviously the first order is from me um
00:09:25 00:09:30 it's just weird to look back at this
00:09:27 00:09:32 again the website was built in september
00:09:30 00:09:34 this first order went through on the
00:09:32 00:09:37 11th of september at 4 58
00:09:34 00:09:38 it will be 10 years ago this year that
00:09:37 00:09:40 the first order ever went through and
00:09:38 00:09:41 that was to me now the website had been
00:09:40 00:09:43 up for a while at this point by the way
00:09:41 00:09:45 it's actually the 14th of september that
00:09:43 00:09:47 the first ever order went through and it
00:09:45 00:09:49 is 14. this is always so cool to kind of
00:09:47 00:09:51 go look back on like who your first
00:09:49 00:09:52 customers were who the first people were
00:09:51 00:09:54 to actually purchase from you that's not
00:09:52 00:09:55 like a friend or a family
00:09:54 00:09:57 you know it's interesting he said he was
00:09:55 00:09:58 his first order i've always been the
00:09:57 00:10:00 first order for my businesses and i
00:09:58 00:10:02 continue to actually be right so
00:10:00 00:10:04 for example on tab focus right like if i
00:10:02 00:10:07 want more bottles of untapped focus
00:10:04 00:10:08 i go to untappfocus.com and i actually
00:10:07 00:10:11 purchase my own product i don't
00:10:08 00:10:12 just ship it to myself and not pay for
00:10:11 00:10:14 it right so i always this is one of the
00:10:12 00:10:15 big things i always recommend be your
00:10:14 00:10:16 own best customer
00:10:15 00:10:18 right like you got to be your own best
00:10:16 00:10:20 customer don't just go and like you know
00:10:18 00:10:21 give it to yourself for free whatever
00:10:20 00:10:23 your product is right pay for it right
00:10:21 00:10:23 remember your business is its own kind
00:10:23 00:10:25 of
00:10:23 00:10:26 living breathing thing and what you're
00:10:25 00:10:27 going to get give to is what you're
00:10:26 00:10:28 going to get out of it so if you're
00:10:27 00:10:30 always kind of just
00:10:28 00:10:31 just pulling out from it right like how
00:10:30 00:10:33 are you going to be successful
00:10:31 00:10:34 so kind of think of your business that
00:10:33 00:10:37 way too
00:10:34 00:10:39 usn hyperbolic mass six kilos so about
00:10:37 00:10:41 two pounds that was profit
00:10:39 00:10:43 that was on the 14th of september so
00:10:41 00:10:45 just nuts to be able to
00:10:43 00:10:47 to see this and then you can see ben
00:10:45 00:10:49 francis fulfilled the item and
00:10:47 00:10:51 ben sent the shipping confirmation out
00:10:49 00:10:52 as well so even now
00:10:51 00:10:54 just looking at the orders flying
00:10:52 00:10:56 through like orders coming by the second
00:10:54 00:10:59 so to go from having no orders for
00:10:56 00:11:01 months and weeks at times to be able to
00:10:59 00:11:01 see orders flying in by the second now
00:11:01 00:11:04 is just
00:11:01 00:11:04 absolutely crazy 2011 if you just said
00:11:04 00:11:06 to me that
00:11:04 00:11:07 jim schultz website would be getting
00:11:06 00:11:08 millions and millions of orders i would
00:11:07 00:11:10 have said
00:11:08 00:11:12 not a chance because again it wasn't
00:11:10 00:11:13 like we weren't building this to be a
00:11:12 00:11:14 business we were building it because we
00:11:13 00:11:15 were desperate to be involved in the
00:11:14 00:11:18 fitness industry
00:11:15 00:11:20 that was it like i was obsessed by
00:11:18 00:11:21 lifting i was obsessed by going to body
00:11:20 00:11:23 power every year
00:11:21 00:11:25 i just wanted to be involved so i do
00:11:23 00:11:27 have to pinch myself now
00:11:25 00:11:29 to be able to be in this position given
00:11:27 00:11:30 that i was just a kid that wanted to be
00:11:29 00:11:32 involved in fitness
00:11:30 00:11:34 what about machines yeah so always think
00:11:32 00:11:35 of that as well for yourself right what
00:11:34 00:11:36 is something that you would actually be
00:11:35 00:11:38 proud to be part of what are you what
00:11:36 00:11:40 are you going to be proud of
00:11:38 00:11:41 what your what your business is right i
00:11:40 00:11:43 think a lot of people because i again i
00:11:41 00:11:45 tok to a lot of people
00:11:43 00:11:46 every single week and you know a lot of
00:11:45 00:11:47 people that i toked to like i don't
00:11:46 00:11:48 care what i saw i just want to make
00:11:47 00:11:50 money and you know
00:11:48 00:11:52 that's a tough mindset to actually be
00:11:50 00:11:53 successful with because it's out of that
00:11:52 00:11:55 desperation
00:11:53 00:11:57 right now the thing is i'm not saying
00:11:55 00:11:58 that you can't be desperate but what i
00:11:57 00:12:00 found is most people that
00:11:58 00:12:02 come from that place of desperation it's
00:12:00 00:12:03 very difficult for you to to be
00:12:02 00:12:05 successful because
00:12:03 00:12:07 you're trying to like win a lottery
00:12:05 00:12:08 tiket when you look at like ben's case
00:12:07 00:12:10 right here with jim shark
00:12:08 00:12:12 he was working minimum wage and he just
00:12:10 00:12:13 wanted to
00:12:12 00:12:15 be part of a fitness industry and
00:12:13 00:12:17 started a business around that
00:12:15 00:12:18 and saw what came of it right so think

00:12:18 00:12:22 in that frame of mind as well what's

00:13:39 00:13:42 like master plan of creating this kind
00:13:41 00:13:44 of lifestyle brand of
00:13:42 00:13:46 clothing right you could see that's all
00:13:44 00:13:47 that's on this website he's not really
00:13:46 00:13:49 dropshipping the products you might be
00:13:47 00:13:50 using like a print on demand supply or
00:13:49 00:13:51 something like that at this time i don't
00:13:50 00:13:52 know

00:13:52 00:13:54 the same exact stuff you want to go

00:13:54 00:13:58 start with that drop shipping model

00:14:21 00:14:23 difficult for us to do it was like some
00:14:22 00:14:24 of it was a sort of
00:14:23 00:14:26 lying things on the ground and
00:14:24 00:14:28 photoshopping around the outside
00:14:26 00:14:30 some of it was just stok imagery we
00:14:28 00:14:32 found online but because we had so many
00:14:30 00:14:34 stringers in so many different colors we
00:14:32 00:14:35 ordered in blanks right so we had white
00:14:34 00:14:37 stringers black stringers green
00:14:35 00:14:38 stringers yellow blue
00:14:37 00:14:40 and because we were screen printed on
00:14:38 00:14:42 every single custom one rather than
00:14:40 00:14:44 ordering so as you've got here
00:14:42 00:14:46 you've got a green fitness stringer
00:14:44 00:14:46 rather than having a green fitness
00:14:46 00:14:49 stringer we had
00:14:46 00:14:50 blank green fitness fingers which meant
00:14:49 00:14:52 that as the orders came
00:14:50 00:14:54 in we could print whatever logo made
00:14:52 00:14:56 sense or whatever logo was on the order
00:14:54 00:14:58 onto the product which helped us
00:14:56 00:15:01 massively in terms of our stoks it gave
00:14:58 00:15:03 us huge flexibility right now also
00:15:01 00:15:05 so to hope that you caught that so what
00:15:03 00:15:06 this is just a logistikal way so instead
00:15:05 00:15:08 of going
00:15:06 00:15:10 and he get buying a bunch of product
00:15:08 00:15:11 with the logo gym shark already on it
00:15:10 00:15:12 because
00:15:11 00:15:14 they obviously have a ton of different
00:15:12 00:15:15 designs of saying gym shark on these on
00:15:14 00:15:17 these shirts
00:15:15 00:15:19 right they instead just buy the color of
00:15:17 00:15:20 the shirt and actually did the printing
00:15:19 00:15:22 in-house right so they'd buy the
00:15:20 00:15:23 clothing and then print it depending on
00:15:22 00:15:24 the logo because there could be a bunch
00:15:23 00:15:26 of different logos on that
00:15:24 00:15:28 it's a huge way to save a ton of costs
00:15:26 00:15:30 especially if you're kind of in the
00:15:28 00:15:32 kind of like the clothing industry
00:15:30 00:15:33 product imagery just wasn't very good at
00:15:32 00:15:35 the time
00:15:33 00:15:37 these basically asked someone sent them
00:15:35 00:15:39 a picture of the stringer and asked them
00:15:37 00:15:40 to make an illustrator version of that
00:15:39 00:15:42 stringer rather than having to
00:15:40 00:15:44 physically make a product take a picture
00:15:42 00:15:45 of it i can literally jump on
00:15:44 00:15:46 illustrator
00:15:45 00:15:48 click on the stringer change it to the
00:15:46 00:15:49 color green drag over a new logo
00:15:48 00:15:51 and then just stik it on the website
00:15:49 00:15:52 and sell without ever actually making
00:15:51 00:15:53 the product and then when the order came
00:15:52 00:15:54 in
00:15:53 00:15:56 then build the screen and then actually
00:15:54 00:15:58 print and make the product so
00:15:56 00:16:00 it's weird to look back at it i mean
00:15:58 00:16:00 this one for example the jumbo shot of
00:16:00 00:16:02 loudmouth
00:16:00 00:16:03 yeah it was a design that we made back
00:16:02 00:16:05 in the day i've still got the screen
00:16:03 00:16:07 back at home actually i still keep that
00:16:05 00:16:09 so this is the fitness screen which we
00:16:07 00:16:10 keep in the office at all times this is
00:16:09 00:16:11 like the
00:16:10 00:16:14 the holy grail one of the original
00:16:11 00:16:15 screen so i think there's seven of these
00:16:14 00:16:17 so yeah this is what we would use to
00:16:15 00:16:18 screen print the product this is the
00:16:17 00:16:21 last shop of our website it's always so
00:16:18 00:16:23 cool like holding hold on to memorabilia
00:16:21 00:16:25 guys i'm telling you i have in my closet
00:16:23 00:16:27 just all the old products that i used to
00:16:25 00:16:29 sell right so always i always like keep
00:16:27 00:16:30 these little memorabilia to look back on
00:16:29 00:16:31 but oh man i used to remember when i
00:16:30 00:16:32 used to sell this
00:16:31 00:16:34 right so i definitely recommend keeping
00:16:32 00:16:34 a kind of like a little memory box for
00:16:34 00:16:36 yourself
00:16:34 00:16:38 of some of the stuff that you've maybe
00:16:36 00:16:39 sold or some some memorabilia from early
00:16:38 00:16:42 stages of your business
00:16:39 00:16:43 just like he does i think that's so cool
00:16:42 00:16:45 that we ran before we actually took the
00:16:43 00:16:46 leap onto a different provider for a
00:16:45 00:16:48 short while
00:16:46 00:16:50 this photo shoot was done immediately
00:16:48 00:16:51 after the body power expo as this
00:16:50 00:16:53 carousel comes through as well in a
00:16:51 00:16:54 moment you'll see we're starting to
00:16:53 00:16:56 transition and shift slightly from
00:16:54 00:16:58 the illustrator images the vectors with
00:16:56 00:17:00 the logos plot on top
00:16:58 00:17:01 to actually ordering product in so this
00:17:00 00:17:03 is the looks
00:17:01 00:17:04 tanker and this is one of the first
00:17:03 00:17:06 products that we actually had made
00:17:04 00:17:07 externally so that was great for us
00:17:06 00:17:08 right because if someone ordered one
00:17:07 00:17:10 that means all you have to do is stik
00:17:08 00:17:11 it in a package and it was done
00:17:10 00:17:13 that was revolutionary for us back in
00:17:11 00:17:14 the day it's really cool just to see the
00:17:13 00:17:15 website
00:17:14 00:17:17 really starting to become more
00:17:15 00:17:17 professional we had live chat as well
00:17:17 00:17:19 which we've ran
00:17:17 00:17:20 quite early but i think we had to take
00:17:19 00:17:21 down for a while and then it came back
00:17:20 00:17:22 here
00:17:21 00:17:24 but it's looking great and i think this
00:17:22 00:17:26 is what shopify do really well 20 years
00:17:24 00:17:28 ago it would have taken a large team to
00:17:26 00:17:30 build even a website like this but
00:17:28 00:17:32 we could run this with a small handful
00:17:30 00:17:33 of people fairly comfortably focus all
00:17:32 00:17:36 of our time on the brand
00:17:33 00:17:38 the community and the product so we're
00:17:36 00:17:39 in 2014 now
00:17:38 00:17:41 at this point we've left shopify and we
00:17:39 00:17:42 are working on a completely different
00:17:41 00:17:44 system
00:17:42 00:17:46 albeit we ended up going back the
00:17:44 00:17:47 website actually looks great now
00:17:46 00:17:49 we actually thought really carefully
00:17:47 00:17:51 about the design and you can start to
00:17:49 00:17:52 see that the more angular sort of design
00:17:51 00:17:54 is coming in
00:17:52 00:17:55 as you can see here we are starting to
00:17:54 00:17:57 use
00:17:55 00:17:58 this new logo which we use obviously a
00:17:57 00:18:00 lot more of today but we've got a lot
00:17:58 00:18:01 more real imagery
00:18:00 00:18:03 we've actually you know got commissioned
00:18:01 00:18:04 photo shoots here we've got women's
00:18:03 00:18:06 products as well as men's products
00:18:04 00:18:07 privacy policies teas and seeds all of
00:18:06 00:18:08 these sorts of things shipping
00:18:07 00:18:10 information
00:18:08 00:18:11 jim shot sponsorship information because
00:18:10 00:18:13 at the time after the events that we've
00:18:11 00:18:14 done around the world it was becoming a
00:18:13 00:18:15 huge huge
00:18:14 00:18:17 thing to become a gym shark athlete oh
00:18:15 00:18:19 here you go that's huge
00:18:17 00:18:20 that's huge guys so i don't know if you
00:18:19 00:18:21 you caught that this is actually
00:18:20 00:18:22 something i tok about in the academy a
00:18:21 00:18:24 good amount
00:18:22 00:18:26 is having brand ambassadors especially
00:18:24 00:18:28 earlier on right these influencers
00:18:26 00:18:30 out there right that's how gymshark
00:18:28 00:18:31 really blew up is
00:18:30 00:18:33 they went out and found all these
00:18:31 00:18:34 fitness professionals out there not even
00:18:33 00:18:36 like huge fitness professionals but
00:18:34 00:18:37 people that you know had that physique
00:18:36 00:18:39 of their ideal customers obviously
00:18:37 00:18:40 they're really going after bodybuilders
00:18:39 00:18:42 back in the day now they're kind of like
00:18:40 00:18:43 broadened out that anybody
00:18:42 00:18:45 that kind of goes to the gym can wear a
00:18:43 00:18:45 gym shark but like back in the day was
00:18:45 00:18:47 really like
00:18:45 00:18:49 only bodybuilders wore it so they would
00:18:47 00:18:51 find them on instagram youtube wherever
00:18:49 00:18:52 and and get them to be like a sponsored
00:18:51 00:18:54 athlete and they would promote
00:18:52 00:18:56 the gymshark products with coupon codes
00:18:54 00:18:57 and make money that way this is huge
00:18:56 00:18:58 right so
00:18:57 00:19:00 this is how you can really create a
00:18:58 00:19:01 viral effect around your business and it
00:19:00 00:19:02 doesn't have to be people that have
00:19:01 00:19:04 millions upon millions of followers i
00:19:02 00:19:05 can almost guarantee you when gymshark
00:19:04 00:19:07 started and sending out their shirts to
00:19:05 00:19:07 influencers and stuff they weren't going
00:19:07 00:19:09 after
00:19:07 00:19:11 the biggest names it's not like arnold
00:19:09 00:19:12 schwarzenegger was wearing gymshark or
00:19:11 00:19:14 some of these
00:19:12 00:19:15 huge athletes they're probably going
00:19:14 00:19:15 after people that are a little bit
00:19:15 00:19:17 younger
00:19:15 00:19:19 that are in the bodybuilding scene that
00:19:17 00:19:20 have lots of followers but don't really
00:19:19 00:19:21 know how to monetize and that's the
00:19:20 00:19:22 thing
00:19:21 00:19:24 a lot of these influencers out that you
00:19:22 00:19:25 see out there not like the huge ones the
00:19:24 00:19:28 ones that are kind of like you know
00:19:25 00:19:29 smaller let's say 100 000 followers
00:19:28 00:19:31 right they don't really know how to
00:19:29 00:19:33 monetize right their business is like
00:19:31 00:19:34 going and working out right when you
00:19:33 00:19:37 when you when you come to them and kind
00:19:34 00:19:38 of like raise their status so to speak
00:19:37 00:19:40 you can kind of you know they they feel
00:19:38 00:19:40 that i want to feel part of your
00:19:40 00:19:42 business
00:19:40 00:19:43 right and that's exactly what they did
00:19:42 00:19:45 so well so if you're not if you don't
00:19:43 00:19:46 have a strategy to do that i definitely
00:19:45 00:19:47 recommend
00:19:46 00:19:49 having different kinds of kind of brand
00:19:47 00:19:50 ambassadors sponsored athletes as they
00:19:49 00:19:53 called them
00:19:50 00:19:54 for your business as well the website
00:19:53 00:19:57 for exhibitions
00:19:54 00:19:58 look at that yeah so all of these images
00:19:57 00:20:00 were taken
00:19:58 00:20:01 so this is ash grant and dan blackwell
00:20:00 00:20:03 these guys are probably sort of unsung
00:20:01 00:20:05 heroes in the story of jim sharp
00:20:03 00:20:07 they came and they helped out at the
00:20:05 00:20:08 first body power they were gymshark
00:20:07 00:20:10 athletes and models
00:20:08 00:20:11 as you can see at this point we're like
00:20:10 00:20:12 a fully functioning business we've got
00:20:11 00:20:14 all of these different stringers and
00:20:12 00:20:16 designs
00:20:14 00:20:18 um all of these would have been made in
00:20:16 00:20:20 different factories around the world
00:20:18 00:20:21 rather than being printed by us which
00:20:20 00:20:23 allowed us to focus on other things
00:20:21 00:20:25 at this point we had a team that we were
00:20:23 00:20:26 building we were traveling around the
00:20:25 00:20:28 world and we were spending all of our
00:20:26 00:20:30 time just trying to further the brand
00:20:28 00:20:33 and the community as
00:20:30 00:20:35 best we possibly could here we go
00:20:33 00:20:37 looks t-shirt yeah the website is like
00:20:35 00:20:38 legit at this point it's really cool to
00:20:37 00:20:39 see
00:20:38 00:20:41 you see at this point we were selling
00:20:39 00:20:43 women's wear but i don't think it was
00:20:41 00:20:44 partikularly great it was actually not
00:20:43 00:20:45 long after this i think
00:20:44 00:20:47 we designed and built the first flex
00:20:45 00:20:48 legging which really helped kick off the
00:20:47 00:20:50 women's range
00:20:48 00:20:51 so again website is advancing here we're
00:20:50 00:20:53 now really starting to incorporate the
00:20:51 00:20:55 gymshark athletes into the website
00:20:53 00:20:57 and it's just starting to look again
00:20:55 00:21:00 more and more like a larger brand
00:20:57 00:21:02 so this is a really cool design so
00:21:00 00:21:03 again the brand was just developing all
00:21:02 00:21:04 the text is one color which is good to
00:21:03 00:21:05 see it will be at the charcoal is a
00:21:04 00:21:06 different color
00:21:05 00:21:08 and again even though we are shifting
00:21:06 00:21:10 into the new logo we're still stiking
00:21:08 00:21:13 to our bodybuilding roots at this point
00:21:10 00:21:15 as we come into 2016
00:21:13 00:21:16 the gymshark.com website is really
00:21:15 00:21:19 starting to come into its own
00:21:16 00:21:21 but it's starting to look a lot closer
00:21:19 00:21:21 to the june shop website that you see
00:21:21 00:21:25 today
00:21:21 00:21:26 as we come into 2017 2018
00:21:25 00:21:28 this is where we would have been really
00:21:26 00:21:29 building out and look at this transition
00:21:28 00:21:30 guys right
00:21:29 00:21:33 look at this transition that they're
00:21:30 00:21:34 doing they started really niche specific
00:21:33 00:21:36 right and now they're broadening out
00:21:34 00:21:38 right you could see how their website
00:21:36 00:21:39 design like which started with like
00:21:38 00:21:41 very heavy on bodybuilders right that
00:21:39 00:21:43 was really it right and just like male
00:21:41 00:21:44 bodybuilders then they have the females
00:21:43 00:21:46 and now it's just broadening out to not
00:21:44 00:21:47 even just people that are bodybuilders
00:21:46 00:21:50 just people that like to take care of
00:21:47 00:21:51 themselves and a lot of the development
00:21:50 00:21:53 in the last short
00:21:51 00:21:54 year or two that previously was external
00:21:53 00:21:56 developers
00:21:54 00:21:58 now at this point in general 2018 we're
00:21:56 00:22:00 going to start to transition that into
00:21:58 00:22:01 in-house which is why you're starting to
00:22:00 00:22:03 see changes and shifts to the website
00:22:01 00:22:04 color a lot more regular
00:22:03 00:22:07 um albeit we're still sitting on the
00:22:04 00:22:08 shopify platform but by this point we've
00:22:07 00:22:10 developed you know
00:22:08 00:22:12 our fonts our logos the look and feel of
00:22:10 00:22:13 the brand a clean aesthetik the link
00:22:12 00:22:14 into the community
00:22:13 00:22:16 it's weird seeing all this seeing how
00:22:14 00:22:16 the products change and developed over
00:22:16 00:22:20 time
00:22:16 00:22:21 as you come in 2019 in the last sort of
00:22:20 00:22:22 18 months
00:22:21 00:22:24 it's you know it's looking a lot more
00:22:22 00:22:25 professional listen there's a lot that
00:22:24 00:22:27 we need to do to improve the website
00:22:25 00:22:29 partikularly on the back end in terms of
00:22:27 00:22:30 our stok management and so on and
00:22:29 00:22:32 sales periods and everything we
00:22:30 00:22:34 understand that and we are working on it
00:22:32 00:22:35 just sat here today going through
00:22:34 00:22:36 wayback machine and looking at how the
00:22:35 00:22:37 gym shop website has developed over the
00:22:36 00:22:39 last eight nine
