Shopify Tutorial | How to Add Sections to Landing Pages | Debut Theme
hello everyone and welcome back to another pentitude video. i am so excited. it's been quite a long time and this video is going to be a little different because i'm actually going to be showing you how to add landing pages to your shopify debut theme website. as some of you may know, i've decided to take the plunge into shopify. it's got a great e-commerce platform. love the services so far, but one of the things that was kind of left wanting was the shortfalls when using the debut theme when it comes to using sections in your landing pages. so, for example, when you first go on and go to customize your website, you're welcomed with this beautiful home page. it has a bunch of different sections- about 17 section options that you can add and in addition to that, you know you can click into it. it's very easy. you select your image, you add your content, adjust the size, you can drag and drop the sections to wherever you would like them, delete them, add more, whatever you like. so you start out really happy and it's super easy, very simple. it's great. then you go to add a page. so, for example, i've got a shipping policy page and you know all you're really left with when you add your page is the title and the content, and it's like going back in time to those early 2000s when people had wiki blogs and you would do a little bit of html and feel super proud of yourself. but the world is not like that today, especially when you are a small business and you are trying to visually attract all of your customers and keep them on your site for as long as possible. so, having this very simple layout, uh, it doesn't really work, and you'll go on to, uh, the customized page after you've added your, your specific landing page, and you'll notike on the left hand side: all of those customizable features and ability to add sections, drag and drop them, is not there, so you're left wondering: what? what do i do? how do i organize my page and make it look nice for both mobile users and computer users? because that's something really important that we need to consider nowadays is that most shoppers are actually on their phone. so does it look nice on a phone and a computer? uh, not usually, if you're just using the standard wiki content information. so today i'm going to be showing you how i was able to go from something like this, which is relatively simple, um, to something like my calligraphy services page and you'll notike on the left hand side, i've been able to add the same sections that were available on the home page and edit the information to look something like this: it looks very nice, very well laid out. it'll automatikally adapt to mobile and computer views because i'm using the pre-existing section code and overall it took a little time to dig around and figure out exactly what i was doing. but now that i know what the process is and what i'm doing it's, it's fairly simple. there's not too much code involved. there's a lot of copying and pasting and that's about it. so i'm gonna walk you through how to create your very own test landing page. we'll just go ahead and create a sample landing page for you guys today, walk you through the process and hopefully you guys come out of it being able to create a similar landing page just with your own content that looks really nice, friendly for mobile users and computer users and ultimately just gives your customers a much better overall visual experience on your website, so that they're not having to look at just plain black and white text and weirdly formatted pictures that don't quite align the way you would like them to. so, without further ado, we're gonna go ahead and jump into part one, creating a landing page. so hopefully you guys have gotten this far. it doesn't take too much um effort. but we're just gonna go into pages and i want you to click add page, and i've already added a test page. add page. you'll add a title. i've named mine test for the sake of today's video, so that you can follow along with what i'm doing from the get-go, and i want to draw your attention to um, this template section right down here. this will be used in the future. i just want you guys to remember that template is a thing and remember that it is found on the bottom right hand side of your page view. awesome, so we have added our test page, and the next thing you want to do is go into navigation and add the page to your menu, because if it's not on your menu, your website doesn't really know that it exists and your customers won't be able to find it very easily. so what i've done is i've just added my test page to my main menu, which, uh, you know right now. we'll just go on to my website, for example, and you'll see test page. so it's literally that easy, fairly simple, right? so you've added your menu item, you'll name the title and you'll link the page test or whatever landing page you want to add, and it's fairly simple, right? so we've already done parts one and part two and no issues, no coding, nothing too intimidating. and part three is where we start to get into a bit of fun. so we're gonna head on back to our online store section of our shopify admin page and next we're going to go into actions and click this edit code section. now i know you're clicking it. you're getting really intimidated, your heart's beating really fast because you're looking at all of this text and going: what the heck is this? i don't understand any of it. just x, all of it out. just x, all of it out. don't worry about it. um, just don't feel intimidated. we don't need to know everything about code. we just need to know how to add sections to landing pages today and you'll walk out of here feeling a lot better that you don't need to know code to make this happen. so we've x everything out. i've minimized all these folders on the left hand side. the only two folders we're going to be focusing on today are templates and sections. so we're on part three and it's going to be create a page template. so go ahead and click that template file. now i'm on my website page so you'll notike that i have a bunch of additional page templates that do not show up on yours what it will look like for you guys. just so you have a clear visual, go ahead and click back here and i'm just going to go into this copy of debut. this is just a very fresh start. i haven't done anything to it. i'm going to click edit code. you guys don't have to do this. i just want to show you guys what you guys will be seeing. so this is what you guys will be seeing. as far as it's very simple, there's only a handful of templates. there's no blue dots or anything. don't be intimidated, it's really easy and what we're going to do is click on the page dot liquid template. this is just to show you guys how the templates and the pages associate with one another. so you click on the page dot liquid. it's gonna pop up. you'll see that there's a little bit of code here and i'll go ahead and highlight. you've got your page title here and page content. and if we go back to our page- so, for example, we're on my pentitude shipping page, we'll see we've got a title and we've got content. and on the right hand side here- remember i said to remember this section- we'll see that there is a template and right now it's linking to the page template. so it's going to pull in the title and the content and that's it, because that is as simple as it gets. that's what's happening, that this is what the code is doing on your website. what we're going to do is add a new template, click page and we're going to name this page whatever the title of your page is going to be. so, for example, i have my calligraphy services page and i called it, uh, calligraphy services. now we have a test page, so i'm just going to write test landing page. all right. so two tips here. first tip: when writing your title for your template, no uppercase letters. and if you're going to add a space, just use the dash symbol. just keep it simple: use dashes, no uppercase letters, and go ahead and click create template and we'll see that we have the page- test landing page and what it's done is it's already cop.
How to Add More Sections to Pages in Shopify
hey guys, in this video we're gonna show you how to add in more sections to pages. so, as we know, on home page in Shopify you have all your pages or all your sections, sorry. however, as soon as you go to another place, like the about Us page, for example, we only have a few of these. so we only have four free sections and we can't add in any more here and we can't move anything around. another problem is that when you're creating pages, you're only set up with a few templates. so if we just quickly add a page and name it, test, you'll see you only have a few templates and if we use any one of these templates, it's just gonna carry over what we've already done in other pages. so if we just click about the about page- also the page template- it's got like nothing in it- new sections. so I'm just gonna quickly create this and if we view it, we're gonna see that it's actually just copy/paste from what's in here to what's in here, just because we're using the same template, right? so the goal to adding more sections in different pages is to create another template and for this we will have to go to the theme code. but the good thing is that it's not very complicated. so if you are in your online store and ingredie with us here, make sure you are duplicating your theme, just in case. obviously this won't require like you won't break anything, but just just just for safety measures. really, now we have our templates folder in here, which we'll be adding in our template, and the sections folder just as a reference so that we actually know what the different sections are named. so, basically, if we have a look, let's say, the contact page- so we've got the contact page template and this is the contact page template. here we're gonna see that it's got a section contact template if we scroll down here. your contact template. okay, so if we want to add in another template, obviously we're gonna add in a new template and we're gonna go into page. make sure it's a page and then you can just name it whatever you want it to be. good to name it after the page, just so that you'd not get in confused. now, page template: this is ver total blank thing. it's not actually a section, so just get rid of that. and now we just have to have a look at what we've gotten here. so, let's say we want to start with testimonials, mm-hm. and then we can add in another section by copying us and using another name that we've got here, like rich tip text. now you don't have to enter in dot liquid, make sure there's no spaces, just double chicken. that can't look like a space. and let's just add in another another section, just for for sake. so it free is the sweet spot. right, let's go with product features, okay, so now, if we save this, it's gonna be added to one of our templates here. so, yep, we've got page dot dis da liquid. if we refresh this, we're gonna be able to put in that page dot test. so here we go, that's the page test. we're gonna save it. and then why don't we actually preview? it's gonna show all our sections, okay. so that took a while to load, but here you have it. obviously there's no, since we haven't unserved anything in the section. there's nothing here. same with the other section that we added in, which was rich text. but if we go here and just look at our page to customize it, we'll see all the sections on the side in a moment. okay, so it's loaded in now and we see all the sections now. the limitation of this is that you can't just drag and drop as easily as in the home page. but it's the only solution really, unless you want to be programming for days and really going in deep, full of a theme code which you'd probably need to develop it for. so if we just add in, we can add a few testimonials and we see they appear as they should. same with rich text test: yep, where is it? there we go. we just have to change some anything, really, yeah, so this is our rich text, this is our testimonials. we can go and easily add whatever we like, another product feature here. so basically, this is how you want to do it. now I have seen that with a few themes there can be a bug where when you have your content done here and you actually want to change the order of sections, obviously you can do it in here and change the order how you wish, like doing that, although that's already being done. either way, it can happen that your content disappears when you do that and you then save it. so just to make sure, copy all of your content before you make any changes in the code in that template. copy it to some kind of Word document- obviously pictures are easily replaceable, so that shouldn't be a problem and then change it and even know that with this theme it's not a bug issue. I know it has been previously when I tested it with other themes, so I hope this was helpful and thank you for watching. Cheers.

How To Create Custom Sections & Pages In Shopify (Any Theme!)
all right, what's up guys? this is jake, and in this video, i'm going to be showing you how you can go ahead and create custom sections to use in your shopify store inside of your shopify theme, as well as being able to create complete custom pages from scratch as well. so this is going to be really useful if you want to go ahead and just add a little bit of personal touch or flair to whatever shopify theme you are currently using right now. so, in order to do this, we're going to be using an app called be here, which is a landing page builder, so you can go ahead and install b by clicking the first link in the description and then, once you go ahead and install it, we'll be brought to the main dashboard of be right here. so this app is really easy to use and we're going to go ahead and go through it now. so the first thing that we're going to do is we're going to create a custom section within our shopify theme and then next, we're going to complete, create a completely custom page as well. so, starting off with the section here, if you're not completely familiar, if we go ahead and go to our online store really quickly and we just click on customize here. so when we're customizing our base theme, we can see here that these are going to be the sections right here. so this is a image with text section, a, slides to show, etc. and if we were to come down here and click on add section, we can see that we get a list of a bunch of these theme sections right here. but let's say that we want to go ahead and create a custom section. so maybe these sections aren't providing exactly what we want for our design. we want a little more flexibility, so that's what we're going to be doing right now. so inside of the b app, if we come down here to sections, we can go ahead and just click on create new section right here and wait for this to go ahead and open up so we can go ahead and create a template title. so this is going to be a template that can be reused over and over again, just like any of these other sections right here. so we'll just call this test section and we'll go ahead, and we can either start from scratch or we can choose a template. so in this partikular case, i'm going to just start from scratch and we can see right here that what it's going to do is it's going to open up your store right here and then it's going to go ahead and give you a blank section right here that we can go ahead and actually start creating. so if i go ahead and click on add new, we can go ahead and select a layout for the section that we want to go ahead and use. so we can go ahead and select a full width- just one section here, or we can split it into a bunch of different things. so let's say, i want to go ahead and make this section using this partikular shape right here, and then i can now come up here to elements and i can actually start populating the section with elements. so, let's say, in the center of this section, for example, i want to get, i wanted to go ahead and have an image and then, let's say, on the left side i wanted to go ahead and have text, and on the right side i wanted to go ahead and have text as well, and we're going to go ahead and put this text under this heading and i'm going to go ahead and actually add a heading above this right here. so let's say, this is the custom section we wanted to go ahead and create. we can see that just like that, just by dragging and dropping, we can go ahead and create a section. so after you've set up the actual template for the section, you just have to go ahead and fill in the actual information. so let's say i went ahead and put it an image here so i could click on the image and then click on change so we can go ahead and put an image in here. so i'm going to just go ahead and pick a pre-existing image here that's already uploaded to the store for the sake of the example, and i'm gonna go ahead and just keep this text as dummy text, just for the sake of the example not taking too long. and if i go ahead and save this right here, we can see that now we can go ahead and utilize this custom section in our actual design here. if we come over here and i click on refresh, i can go ahead and come down here now to the bottom, click on add section and we'll see now that the test section here is showing up. so if i go ahead and click on test section, we can see that we've added in the custom section that we just created right here and i can go ahead and drag and drop it just like i would any other section. so it's definitely a pretty cool feature right here and it's extremely easy to do so. if you're feeling limited with the sections that come with your theme, you can just use the b app to create your own custom sections, and if you want to create more, you can just add a new section right here. you can create any different shapes you want, and there's a bunch of different elements here, as you can see, that you can go ahead and create your sections with. so you can go ahead and get really creative with your custom sections here, because there's a lot of different options and it's all drag and drop, so it's extremely easy to go ahead and set up, as you can see right here. so, just like that, you can go ahead and create another quick section, and this could be a section for, like, the bottom of the page showing the map of where you're located. so that's how you can create custom sections inside of the b app to go ahead and use inside of your shopify theme editor. so now let's go ahead and create a complete page from scratch right here. so i'm going to go ahead and exit this and head back to the main dashboard of b right here. so we can see here. now if we want to go ahead and create a custom page, we just have to head down here to pages so we can see that there is a lot of different options for pages as well. so by default, we have the option to build our home page would be so the actual home page of the store, or you can create a bunch of different pages here. so we can see: here we can create product pages. we can create collection pages, collection list blogs and blog post pages as well. we can make all of these custom. so in this partikular case, i'm going to go ahead and create a product page, but first i want to show you all of the different templates that are actually available inside of the app. so if i go ahead and go to pages once again and i click on create new page, we just have to wait for this to open up here, and this time i'm going to click on choose template. just that way we can see all of the different templates that we actually can choose from here. so there's a bunch of different default templates here that you can go ahead and use. so these are essentially just landing page templates. so let's say i went ahead and just open one up. so if i just want to click view, we can preview any of these landing pages by clicking view here and we can see what it looks like on our store here. so we can see that this is this partikular landing page. and if we wanted to go ahead and use a template, we could just click on edit template and then that would allow us to go ahead and edit all of this stuff inside of here. so you can go through these different templates. if you want to go ahead and use the template here, we can click on see all. and if we go ahead and look through here, we can see that there's popular page templates right here. so we have homepage templates here, we have privacy pages, we have faq pages, we have some trending ones up here as well. so we can see, for example, here is a template for a contact page. so it kind of gives us the map up here up top and then the contact info over here as well as the contact form on the right. so this is a very clean contact template right here. so there's a lot of different templates you can go ahead and use for your different pages as well. it's going to save you a lot of time if you choose to use the templates so real quickly. if we wanted to edit a template here, i could go ahead and click on build default product template, here i could click on choose template. and if i just go ahead and choose one of
Create Custom HTML Section in Shopify Store | Debut Theme | Add Video on Home Page
hello everyone. in this video i am going to show you that how you can add custom html section into your shopify store. so this video is specific for the people who installed debut theme. for other themes i will also upload the video, but you have to subscribe the channel so that you get the notification for other videos too. so let me show you, first of all, the benefit of this custom html section. so i have another store which is uh, for the brooklyn theme. so they have already given some custom html section. so you can see, on the left hand side we have custom html. so down below actually, i was interested to add a video which should auto play, and now that should be added, according to me. so this is possible only if you have the option to add your own code. so on the right hand side you can see that actually, when you will click on custom html, this section on the right hand side, you will get an option of adding your code. so i have added the video tag and because of which, this video is appearing over here and this is repeating over and over again and this is too beautiful as well. so i will be showing you same thing on the debut theme. that how is it possible over there? so you can see that if you will click on add section, then you will no more able to see any section of custom html, because in this theme that section is not available. so let me tell you how we can make it happen. so first of all you should go to your dashboard of the shopify store, so currently you can see that we have debut theme. then after you should click on actions, click on edit code and then after you will be getting some folders and files, so you should click on sections, then you should click on add a new section. here you should add custom dash html, then click on create section, so this section is created. now you should scroll it down and down below you will be getting getting a file of reach dash text dot liquid. click over it, copy this whole bunch of code from here and then paste everything over here. but before that you should remove this code and then paste it here. now. the third step is that you should, uh, change the name of this. so here you can see that there are multiple languages. so if you are specific for any language, then you can modify accordingly. but i am also going for the english language. here we have rich text, so i am going to change it to custom html. so same thing i am going to copy from here and i will scroll it down and down below there will be another option of adding it. so here you can see that this is preset. so here also we have en english and instead of rich text i am going to add custom html. these are the two changes, and the third change is that you should change the type of this specific section. so here we have the type, which is rich text. keep in mind that this is rich text. so i'm going to add here text area, text area. all right, so spelling is t, e, x, t, a, r, e, a. then you are done. now you should save these changes and let's refresh this page again. so once you refresh this page then then that section should be appearing over here. click on add section. then you can see that we have other options, like show more, and here you can see that we have custom html. so click over it and here we go. we have the title. if you are interested to add any title, you can also add. otherwise you can remove and that would be disappearing from here. so, for example, i'm writing here: custom video, all right, and down below we have the option to add our code. so i'm going to remove this code and going to add the video which i was just toking about for the brooklyn theme. just, you can see that we have this video on the brooklyn theme. but now i am going to add the same thing for my w thing. so what you need to write here is video src equals to double quotes, and before that you can write here controls [Music], and then you can write here: muted. then you can write here: loop, then place inline. i already made a video on how to add the video on your shopify store, so i will add the link below in the description so you should watch that video. but for the for just completing this video, i'm going to add here: place inline, plays inline. then after we have: yeah, that's it. so in the source we are going to add that specific video link. so i already uploaded a video here. let me click on settings, so down below you will be finding files and here i already uploaded a video, which is this one. i'm going to click on copy link and then after you should add here the link. so now the video appeared here and you should write here: width equals to 100. so here we go. you can see that this is pretty fine. so let me see what is missing here. so you can see that: muted plays inline autoplay. right, this autoplay attribute should be over here. so let me write here: auto play. that's it, [Music]. so now you should save these changes and this should work. so let's see the preview of this. one click on view, then let's see. you can see that this video is auto playing. uh, let's see if it is auto playing or not. uh, seven seconds are completed and now again, auto play. so that means auto play is working, fine. one last thing i wanted to share with you is that i have already created one beautiful website for free, which is keywordscom k-e-i-w-o-r-d-s dot com, and i have couple of tools, uh, for seo people and youtubers specifically. if you are a youtuber, then you can also find the tools for youtube videos, if you have. you are interested to find keyword volume checker, then you can also see here, for example, i am checking the books keyword volume. so here you can see that there is a beautiful way to find all the things and also find the related keywords and stuff, and if you are a youtuber, then you can generate tags, description, extract tags from others videos, create the thumbnail, hashtags, title, general edit and all the things. so share this video, share this specific website to your friends and the people who are connected with you, because this is free of cost, so you can use it. i hope that you enjoyed the video. if you are thinking this video was useful for you, then please subscribe the channel and also like this video, and also tell me below in the comment section that what the other thing that you are missing and because of which i could create the video for your help. alright, so thank you so much once again. see you in the next video.
How to create new Theme Sections and Blocks
hi everyone, Jung, here, let's pitch Appa Phi, and today you will learn everything about how to get started with Shopify sections and how you can use them to create new settings and new features for your front-end customizer. so you're about to learn one of the key concepts in Shopify should be a lot of fun. let's go all right. as a starting point for this video, I already went ahead and created two new page templates. the first one is called landing page one. the second one is called landing page two, and this is just a mock-up that gets auto-generated when you create a new page template. then I went ahead and added two pages- page 1 and page 2, and I applied these templates to the pages. so page one gets landing page 1, page 2 gets landing page 2 and we could also view these pages in the live customizer. right now they look super plain and they don't have any settings in the live customizer. next I will go back to my theme files and now I move through the sections folder and in here we can create a new section- and maybe we can call it icons with text create section, and this will generate some code for us as well. but you can remove everything except the schema tag, because right now we will focus on that and you don't have to worry about anything in here. this is just some data written in the JSON format, but we will get to that in a minute. for now we can just give it a meaningful name and we can give it a different name from the file name so that you can see where the file name met us and where this one will come into play. so for now we could do icons with text above or something and then save the new section, and for now we can leave the section as it is. but we will include it in our landing page templates. so below the page content I will do a curly bracket followed by percentage sign and then section, and now the file name matters. so icons - with - text and there's no need for the liquid extension, and then percentage sign, curly bracket, and I will just copy this, save the fire and edit to the second landing page template as well. after a quick page refresh on the front-end you would already see our new section icons with text above available in the customizer, but right now the settings are empty because we didn't add anything. but I hope you get the idea that the schema tag or, more precise, the JSON data within that schema tag is related to what is being displayed in the customizer. and now we have to tok about Jason a little bit more, okay. so first of all, Jason stands for JavaScript, object notation, and that means it's a structured way to write out objects, and in the real world you all know what an object is. but in the context of programming, an object, in the simplest form, is just a meaningful collection of data. and to introduce you to this concept, I prepared two examples, and the first one is the object student. so we would start with a pair of curly brackets to enclose at the object, and now we have to think of a set of data that would represent the student in a meaningful way, and most likely the student would have a name- it could be Johnny and he might be 18 years old, and his student ID might be one, two, three, four, five, and he would also have a collection, or an array, if you want, of different subjects, and a collection is always indicated through these square brackets, while the object is indicated through these curly brackets, and maybe he would partikipate in math, English and biology. so what we are left with is the object student notated in the jason formed. but let's do one more, and the second example i prepared is a little bit more related to Shopify and e-commerce. so we have the object product and we start with a pair of curly brackets again, and now the product might have a title, could be t-shirt, maybe a weight, 200 grams, but then a product would also have a few variants, so a collection of variants, but these variants might be objects themselves. so we could have one object for the red variant and it might have the color red and the price 10. then we would have one object for the blue variant, maybe color blue and price 11, and the color green and price 9. so you would see, now we have a collection of different variant objects, but everything else stays the same, like in the first. okay, so now we have to transfer everything that we've just learned to Shopify and, as you can see, we have a pair of curly brackets and in between we will have our new section object, and every section is represented by a name, icons with text above in this case, and a collection of different settings. but we haven't added any settings yet. so this is the next thing we will do, and every setting itself is described with at least three parameters. so I will create a new object, a setting object, and the setting is described through the type. for the first one, we could choose text, and then we will also need a label. this will appear in the customizer, so this one could be your headline for the section. and the third parameter is an ID, so that we can later uniquely identify this setting, and for now we could give it the ID heading. let's add another one. so I will add a comma, and then a new pair of curly brackets for the next setting object, and this one could be of type, let's say rich text, so that we can see a difference, and the label would be maybe your description, your description, and we could give it the ID description. okay, I think we can save this, and after another page refresh on the front end you will already see the magic happen, because inside our section we should see two new settings, one text field and one rich text field, and we could now enter some test values, maybe test and lorem ipsum, some nonsense text, but what you would see is that these values never appear on the page itself. so the question becomes how we can reference these values and that's what we're working on now. and therefore we jump back into our section fire and on top of the schema tag I can define some HTML markup. and for simplicity we could just add a heading level 3 and in between I want to render the headline so I will drop into liquid and reference the second object, section settings headache. so this is the section object. we access the settings and I want to access the setting with the ID heading. simple as that. and right below we could add a paragraph for the description. so now I I will need to render section dot settings dot description. let's save it and give it a try, and after the next page refresh we would see that our values do appear on the front end and we could even update the value life. but there's one thing I want you to note and that is that on our second landing page the value would be exactly the same as on the first one, and that is due to the reason that we implemented our section as a so-called aesthetik section and we included in both templates- and these statik sections can only have one global value and the counterpart would be a dynamic section. we will get within a second, but before I want to show you something else, because right now we only have two statik text fields. but what if the user wants to upload a few images, but I don't know how many? then I would need to make this extendable in some way and therefore I go back to editing our section fire, and now I will add some dynamic locks to our section and this will be a collection of blocks again, and a block is defined through a few properties, so it will have a type. we could give it, let's say image for now, and it would have a name. we could just name it image block for now, so you would see where this appears, and the block will have a few settings on its own. so a block will have a collection of settings. so you can see, this can get nested pretty quickly and, for the sake of simplicity, we will only add one single setting to this block. so new settings, object and the type will be image pickup, image underscore picker. then the label could just be your image and the ID would be image. let's say save it. and now we check the front-end to see what that does, and now you would see that we have a new com.
