hey friends, this is joe from iwd agency. today we're going to go over the main differences between shopify plus and adobe commerce, powered by magento. both of these platforms are super feature rich and they power some of the most popular brands around the internet. we're not gonna go through all the features of each platform, because they have thousands of features and many of them are the same. we're gonna focus on the main differences between the two platforms so you can see what might be better for your business. if you're trying to decide between the two platforms, you need additional download it. let's get started with the pricing. their pricing is very similar as far as their licensing fee. they're both based upon volume of transactions going through your store. they both have a base transaction fee, monthly or yearly, but then, depending on your volume. they do charge more for how much volume is going through your store and how many transactions are going through your store, and they can be negotiated between the two platforms. so if you are considering shopify plus or adobe commerce, the pricing is not that much different to make a decision on. i think the features are those things that you really want to focus on and your use case. the second thing we'll go through is ease of use. shopify wins this and there's multiple reasons for this. first of all, shopify is a hosted platform. also, the code is not open source. since it's a sas product, there is some of the code that's locked down, so you don't really have to worry about breaking the system as much as you would have to do for magento. also, their user interface for that administrative panel is slimmed down so that basic users can use it quicker and learn how to use it faster. the second feature that shopify plus will win too, is automatik upgrades and automatik patches. since shopify is a sas solution and adobe commerce is an open source solution, shopify has the ability to automatikally push security updates and upgrades to their system. you don't have to worry about this. magenta being open source, you have to manually go in there and upgrade your system and make sure it doesn't break any of your customizations. there is an additional cost of maintaining adobe commerce because you have to make sure you have the latest security patches and you will have to manually upgrade your system. the next big difference between these two platforms is the code that it's written on. now i wouldn't necessarily say one is better than the other, unless you are really familiar with one type of code more than the other. shopify is written on ruby on rails, which is also called liquid. they have modified ruby on rails to have their own coding system inside of shopify, so it does have some variations, but it's built upon ruby on rails. adobe commerce is built on php or the zen framework. the zen framework is a framework that uses php inside of it, but this is the code base they use. the ease of use and automatik upgrades are shopify's biggest pluses over adobe commerce. we'll go through some of the other features, but if that's all you're looking for, if you have a very standard ecommerce store, you're looking for something really easy to use and you don't have to worry about upgrades and maintenance in the future, shopify plus might be the best option for you. the reason why adobe commerce can be harder to use is because it's more customizable and because it's open source, and so you have a lot more options. you have a lot more flexibility. if you're looking for a more powerful enterprise system, adobe commerce is fully customizable. everything is yours and you can modify it for your business needs. so this is a huge win for adobe commerce, and if you're looking for full flexibility, then adobe commerce would probably be a better pick for you. and if that answers your question, then you don't have to watch the rest of the video. but in the rest of the video we'll dial in some more of the features that you can do with adobe commerce. that really amplifies your ecommerce system. the first thing that we'll tok about is unlimited products. adobe commerce, truly unlimited products. you can add as many products as you want. you can upload as many products as you want. shopify plus- you can eventually get as many products as you want, but they do have limitations. here, once again, you're sharing their system, and so they have to have limitations so that people don't log down their system. let's say you have a million products. well, shopify plus will allow you to upload 50 000 initially, and then after that it'll be a thousand a day you'll be limited to. if you have a million products, it might take you a really long time to upload your whole catalog. the next item we'll go through is being able to handle multiple stores under one administrative panel. this could be different source for international businesses. so you have a store for europe or france or germany, you have one for the united states, canada, mexico, australia. you can handle all of those inside adobe commerce in shopify. they do have some international capabilities. but it's hard to have completely separate stores and be able to manage all the content for every store separately. or let's say you have different storefronts that you're managing for, say, furniture, and you have one store that's outdoor furniture, one store that's indoor furniture or one that's high in furniture and one that's low budget furniture. you can manage all these stores in magento in one administrative panel, so you don't have to log in and out of different systems. the same thing comes for wholesale b2b businesses. if you have one store for your basic retailers but you have another store that you want to set up for your whole sellers for different messaging, you can handle that in adobe commerce with shopify. you'd have to have a different administrative panels to handle each of these stores. adobe commerce will allow you to handle inventory for multiple different locations into one administrative panel. if you have different warehouses, you can have these different warehouses all pulled into adobe commerce. you can see the inventories at different locations, storefronts or different warehouses. this is a really cool feature that comes with adobe commerce. where shopify doesn't offer this out of the box. we already toked about this a little bit with the multiple stores. adobe commerce is better for international stores because you have a lot more flexibility to handle different stores in one administrative panel. you can set up different payment methods for different regions because they have the ability to set up different stores built into every aspect of adobe commerce. you can have complete flexibility of different stores having different inventory, different stores having different languages, different stores having different shipping. this is, once again, another big feature that adobe commerce has out of the box where shopify plus doesn't have this out of the box. another feature that adobe commerce comes with is pwa progressive web app. we won't get into all the details here, but it's basically code that will speed up your site and make it feel more like an app, as far as it being super responsive, being able to work offline. this is something that comes native with adobe commerce, for shopify plus doesn't have this either. the next is the artificial intelligence search that adobe commerce has, powered by sensei. this is basically where your search will continue to learn misspellings, plurals, non-plurals, and basically act more like amazon or google, where it will detect what people are really searching for, even

Magento vs. Shopify Plus | Migrating your ecommerce platform

- Hi, my name's Michelle George and I am a Shopify Plus Partner Manager on the North America team. Shopify is a complete commerce platform that lets you start, grow and manage your business globally. My role at Shopify is to work with our strategic partners to support high growth, high volume merchants and help them find long term solutions to their biggest roadblocks. I have the privilege of working with some amazing merchants and partners, two of which I'm excited to introduce you to today. So joining us are Sean and Paul from Shopify Plus agency Fyresite, and Cody with Chassis Unlimited to discuss their experience and insights around migrating from Magento to Shopify Plus. So let's get started with the discussion and all of your questions. So first question for Cody: can you start by telling us a little bit more about chassis Unlimited and an overview of your eCommerce operations? - Yeah, absolutely So. we are a automotive aftermarket product manufacturer with a heavy focus on truck bumpers. We have been operating on an eCommerce website for the last 10 years plus and have had our fair share of ups and downs along with it, But pretty much our entire operation is based off of our website. whether it's a wholesale order or a retail order, everything's circled around our main website, So every order is fulfilled and input through that system. - So, Cody, you were previously a Magento customer And what was your experience like? - Magento, it was a really great platform. However, it pretty much was nonstop maintenance And you're constantly wondering if the website was gonna be working over the night or the next morning or what kind of hiccups you may come into. It was really customizable, which was really great, but for someone that's actually, you know, running a business, it was really hard to keep the upkeep up on it. - So this question's for Fyresite, who's been helping Chassis Unlimited with this migration. So question for Sean or Paul: what does the maintenance look like for the average Magento customer? - Magento maintenance is, you know, it's something that's not done monthly or quarterly. it sometimes it's a daily. it's a daily development lift for a lot of high volume merchants. So it's a combination of security patches, really complex hosting, high developer costs and lead times. That's a big. probably one of the biggest factors I think with any Magento client is finding coverage when they need a developer in a pitch, because normally these things in Magento they come on really suddenly And when you have a major outage on holiday weekend when you're running a sale like that could be the make or break for your monthly quarter or your year, And I think that's a major factor and it's also just the anxiety I think around that- Not being able to take a vacation, worried about you know what level. a common question we get with Magento- people looking to migrate off Magento- is how complex our service level agreements are, And it's like we have a great service level agreement but we don't. we hardly have any clients that would need to utilize it because our platform's not going down on a daily or monthly basis. So I think those are some of the biggest things that they come across And I think, overall, with maintenance because of the new required upgrades with Adobe, it's a very expensive upgrade without much benefit to the merchants themselves. So if you're gonna, you know, spend that time and effort to make the upgrade, it would make sense to move off of a platform that has a lot of limitations and use that budget in other places. - So, given that and those kind of common issues, Cody, what was your breaking point in making the decision to re-platform to something other than Magento? - Yeah, pretty much exactly what Sean said. It would be any time that, with Magento that you wanted to do an update or install another app, or even a simple search update or, let's just say, add a product, it would possibly crash the entire website. you know, dealing with different avenues down the entire line of hosting, email, server maintenance, a front end developer- It was really something that needed a lot of attention. A great breaking point for us was that we've, you know, made the step from Magento 1 platform Magento 2, that was a huge restructure. that was good for a couple years, maybe two at the most- And then we started having all these issues with security patches. And now there, what, like Sean said, we brought Adobe on board and they said, oh, we're gonna redo the whole thing. That was kind of a breaking point for us, not to mention that, you know, you really couldn't make it a night without thinking about whether that site was gonna be up in the morning or what feature may not work. You might be able to add a product to your cart and not be able to check out. Or maybe you had someone adding product during your business hours yesterday and the entire system kind of got glitched out and you didn't catch it. And now you're wondering why. you're like, hmm, something's a little funny here And you've got 50 people calling wondering why they can't complete their card or check on the orders. It just really it took a lot of develop time to be able to get to a point that was similar to just plug and play at websites. It was very customizable, though, but that that's about what I have to say about Magento. - So question for Fyresite: You work with a lot of brands who are looking to move off of Magento. Are there any other common reasons? why anything else that you hear? - Absolutely So. we actually we are working with a couple merchants currently that you know kind of. you know, were kind of toked into a headless implementation, but it, you know the implementation was leveraging WordPress and Magento. So now they're maintaining two complex CMSs and then combining that into a headless implementation, which is extremely expensive to do and really inefficient. when we're toking about having content on one product detail page coming from two CMSs, You know, like the, it's extremely complex And you know, then again, you're maintaining two CMSs that both require a lot of maintenance. They're both based on open source tiknology, And open source has a very rapid iteration, which is can be a good thing. It can also be a nightmare. We manage a lot of clients in Move-commerce as well And the constant updates are great for the platform but it's not great for the merchant because you're constantly updating things And there are some things that may be the focal point of your customer journey. You're leveraging multiple apps to do that And if those apps go down well, that's a big hit on your potential conversion rate. So that, like, there's a lot of people that you know they, some developers may, because they can't handle the developmental lift of like a complex store. they may leverage other tiknologies to make it easier, but in the end it hurts the merchant because they're stuck managing that long term. And that's probably one of the most common things I've seen. I've seen three of those sites in like the last two months - You have that and just developer costs in general, 'cause working on a Magento store takes a lot of specialized knowledge, the file systems you know overly complex and then you're gonna have to pay somebody for that knowledge and time. So that eats into across as well. - Absolutely - Yeah, that's a good point. The overall, you know, cost of ownership is something that we have a lot of conversations with here at Shopify when we're toking with customers that are looking, you know, to re-platform. So, Cody, what were some of the important, I guess, what you call features or functionality that were important to you when you're thinking of moving off of Magento - Yeah, Moving off of Magento- we were really looking for something that was extremely user friendly on the front end and the back end. shopify versus magento. hi guys, welcome back to another video, and in today's video, we're going to be taking a look at shopify and magento, and we're going to be going over all the features and tools that both of these websites provide and how they both operate. and before i continue on with the video, i would like to say that if you are interested in buying shopify and signing up on it, the video. so, first up, we have shopify, and all you have to do is just simply sign up. the signup process is very simple. it's very easy. all you have to do is provide your email and just simply sign up, and once you do that, this is how it is going to look like. this is going to be your dashboard over here and in front of you. you have a couple of different options. so you have a ad product, you have customized themes, you have add pages. now, these are the three main options. so in ad products, you will have to simply just add products and manage them, and in customized theme, you can customize the theme and add your logos and colors, images to reflect your brand. basically, just edit your website. and then, number three, you have add pages, and over here you can add more pages or edit the existing pages from your website so the customers can learn more about your business. so that, aside, down below you have a couple of different more options, and over here we have add domain. now, this is very important because, if you already have a domain, you can go ahead and simply add that domain. it'll make you look more professional and it'll help the customers find your online store much, much more easier. now, if you don't have a domain, you don't have to worry about that, because shopify already provides it. so, over here, this is my domain. as you can see, this is pretty long. it's not really, you know, it doesn't roll off the tongue. so that's why it's best to you know, buy a domain or, if you already have one, just simply add that domain. and then, over here on the left side, you have a couple of more tools that we are going to go over. so, first one, we have orders, and in orders all you have to do is just simply manage your orders and accept payments from your customers and stuff like that. and then down below you have a couple of more options. you have drafts and in drafts you'll have, you know, you can use drafts to take order from the phone, email invoices to customers and collect payment. and then you have abandoned checkout. over here, you'll basically see what customers put an item in their cart but they didn't check out. so you can also email the customers to link to their cart so that they can remember that they have something in there and that they didn't check out. and then you have products. over here, you basically have inventory, transfer and collections. basically, all you have to do is just simply manage your products that you have added over here. and then down below you have customers. you can manage your customers and over here you can basically, you know, see all the informations and view their purchase history and stuff like that. and then you have analytiks and over here you basically get a detailed report on your store, basically the top sales, online store sessions, returning customers, online store conversions, average order value and stuff like that. and then down below you have marketing and over here this is a pretty cool tool that they provide. so in marketing. you will basically, you know, promote your online store by, you know, setting up a campaign. you can set up a campaign or you can choose a template that you want, so it basically, you know, promotes your store through ads over onto different platforms such as google or snapchat or facebook or instagram and many, many more. and then, down below, you have discounts. over here you will basically manage or create your discount codes that can be automatikally applied at checkout. and then, down below, you have the app store. now, this is a very important one. so over here you have different applications that shopify supports and through these applications you can manage your store and grow your store and take your shopify game to the next level. so you have different store and right now i have this one, uh, installed called abrello. i will tok about that later on in the video, so make sure you stik around. and then down below, you have sale channels. so basically, these are going to be other websites and platform that you partner up with, and then you can, you know, sell your products from shopify over onto these platforms. so basically, if you install facebook, you can install that sale channel and then you'll be able to easily sell your products from shopify over onto facebook and many, many more. so this is really good. and then down below, you have online store. basically, over here you have the option of editing your website. you can add blog posts, pages, navigations, domain and other preferences that you might need. so over here, you will basically get the option of editing your website. you can change different themes. so currently i have this theme right now, and you can change the theme by coming over here onto free themes and shopify themes, and then over here, you have theme library and over here you can just simply, you know, upload different themes that you might have downloaded from other websites, or you can connect it to github and, you know, you can create your own theme through programming. so that was all the tools that shopify provides. now let me go ahead and show you how you basically, you know, add different products. so what you need to do is go back to your home and just simply click on add products. so over here you basically you don't have the different options. so over here at the top, you basically add the title of your product and then down below, you add some description, then you add a couple of media files, such as photos or videos, and then you can add different pricings, and then you have inventory and shipping. like all of these settings you have to do manually. now let me go ahead and show you the other way. that is much, much more easier. so what you need to do is go back to home and underneath applications, what you need to do is find the umbrella application. now what you need to do is just simply install it. you'll find it over here in the starter pack. just simply click on it and install it, and once you've done that, simply just sign up onto abrello, link your shopify account to it and it'll be done. so this is how obrello really looks like. it's really simple. it's really easy, and over here, on the left side, you have your main option. so you have home import list, products, orders, notifications and find product. what you need to do is just simply click on find products. it'll take you over to this part of the website and over here all you have to do is just simplify the products that you need to add. so let's just assume this is the product that you want. just simply hover your mouse over it and click on add to import list, and once you've done that, your product is going to be added over to import list and over here, as you can see, this is the product it's loading up. as you can see, this is the product right here, and what you can do over here is you can change up the- you know- name of the product, add it to your collection, choose the type and insert different tags so that it stands out and you can sell it easily. and then you have variants of the product. you can choose which variants to keep and which variants not to keep. you have different sizes of the variants and you have different shipping methods as well. like, as you can see, this product is shipping from china, so if you can't ship from china, just uncheck it, and if you don't want to- you know, ship it from russian federation, just simply uncheck this one, and so on, so on, and then you have the pricing element and over here you can change the pricing of the product. this is going to be the


NetSuite SuiteCommerce Advanced vs Shopify Plus vs Magento

in this video we're going to go over the differences between suitecommerce advanced, shopify plus and magento [Music]. i'm going to break down this comparison into really five key points, and that's integration, price system, specific oddities, managed upgrades and b2b slash- b2c functionality. first of all, let's tok about the integration between the e-commerce platform and your netsuite erp system. sweet commerce advanced already comes pre-integrated, meaning you do not need some type of integrator platform. however, with shopify plus and magento and any other e-commerce platform, you do need to have an integration built out which can cost between 2500 to 5000 a year just for that mapping between fields of your ecommerce platform and netsuite. so this alone can dramatikally change the cost of your ecommerce platform. let's tok about the pricing next. when looking at sweet commerce advanced, you can see that the pricing is around five thousand a month. or you can look at sweet commerce standard, which is around 2500 a month. now, there's a key difference between this and the other platforms, because this is all you need in the system, all together in one, and there's really no types of extra costs needed and are associated with this type of licensing. now, when you look at shopify plus, they're priced around 2000 a month. however, when you add in things like transaction, shipping, template costs, integration, it actually gets to about the same price, if not a little bit more, than suitecommerce advanced. so for a shopify plus, for an all-in system, you're looking around at 5500 a month. magento is starting at 5500 a month. once you get your full package, suitecommerce advance is actually a little bit cheaper than the other major competitive options. the third thing i want to tok about is with system specific oddities, and really this just is specific for magento, and it requires monthly security patching, which is a little bit odd. that is not required on the other two platforms and that would increase your monthly maintenance costs by at least a little bit. i'm not exactly sure how much maintenance costs are required for this, but just keep that in mind as one of the additional costs that you may be facing in the future. the next thing i want to tok about is really very important, in my opinion, when you're dealing with customizations, and that's with managed upgrades, both suite commerce advanced and magento have a version locking in place, meaning that they are not going to automatikally update and potentially break a customization, whereas shopify plus does have that. when you have sweet commerce advanced, though, and you're trying to do a version migration, you can use something called extensibility api, which is what developers can use that are already managed in the customizations that they can repurpose in the future. it's calling out like a function- let's say you had like a place order button- they could call out a function that does that and that function is managed by netsuite and that function may be utilized within a customization. so it's much easier to maintain customizations when you're going up from one version to the next, and that's one of the biggest perks with sweet commerce advance when it comes to developers and going from version to version with customizations. when you have shopify plus or some other type of platform that is managed, it's good to keep in mind that your customizations may break without you knowing it, simply because they upgrade from one version to the next, because your customizations are not managed by shopify plus. this has an impact on your revenue, because if it breaks something that causes your website to go down for a long period of time, you could lose a lot of money. lastly, let's tok about both b2b and b2c functionality for each one of these platforms. we, commerce advanced, has an excellent platform for b2b and b2c and it is especially useful for b2b customers and the reason why is because it has so much information from the erp that can be surfaced in my account, like certain custom records that would display in my accounts or even any type of customization that you can think about that is related to that customer. shopify plus doesn't have as many features for b2b, but they do have a lot of features for b2c that really i can't complain about. they have quite a bit of features that are really useful for b2c companies. lastly, magento is a little bit lacking in both b2b and b2c. in general it's a good platform overall but in comparison to shopify plus or sweet commerce advanced, it can't really compare on the b2b or [Music] b2c you.

5 reasons you should choose Magento vs Shopify

I get it, you guys aren't e-commerce platform experts, and you shouldn't be. it's your job to be an expert in whatever your business does. Choosing an e-commerce platform is a big decision. You're gonna invest your hard-earned money and build your business on this thing, and it's going to define your business online for the next several years. That's a lot of pressure. I'm going to try and simplify it for you and in this video, I'm gonna give you five reasons to choose Magento over Shopify. Pull yourself up a chair and let's tok about. Choosing an e-commerce platform can be a subtle, nuanced process. It often comes down to the smallest difference or feature that makes one direction better than another. There's no way we can go through everything in a single video. This video is not a feature comparison. It's more of five big things that you can look for that, if they apply to your business, can make your decision a lot easier. With that in mind, it really applies to Shopify, Shopify Plus, Magento Open Source or Magento Commerce. This partikular video outlines five reasons that Magento might be better for you than Shopify, but it's one in a series of platform comparisons. I'm gonna give you five reasons to choose Shopify as well, and I'll link you to that video at the end of this one. No one is unbiased. Anybody who tells you they're unbiased is just lying to you. I have my favorite platforms. We're Magento partners. don't do so much with Shopify. However, I'm not going to steer you wrong either. I want you to end up on the platform that is 100% best for you and your business. Now, these are in no partikular order, so let's just get into it. The first reason to choose Magento over Shopify is if you're in a controversial or high-risk industry. If you're an industry where laws or public sentiment is constantly evolving, the open source nature and flexibility of Magento is going to give you stability that you can never have on Shopify. Shopify has a history of allowing businesses to invest and build on their platform, only to change their mind and give them weeks to find and migrate to another option. You don't want that kind of worry and risk. You need to be thinking long term, and that risk is a constant distraction and is not healthy for your business. If you're in a controversial or high-risk industry, like firearm or vape products, the flexibility that Magento provides, like being able to move to a different host or select a new payment provider, means that someone can't just tell you no. Basically, you have options and there's not just one provider that can completely shut you down. The next reason to choose Magento over Shopify is control. Sometimes you really need control and other times you really just want control. If you're in heavily regulated industries like pharmaceutikals, it may be absolutely necessary for you to have full control over your tiknology stack. Perhaps there are certain tiknologies you want to use, like AWS or Azure, or you have your own system administrators and want full control over your hosting stack. That makes Magento a no brainer versus Shopify. I also often tok to merchants that just don't like or trust SaaS platforms. I don't really know where this deep-seated hate comes from. They just don't care for the business model at all, Regardless of any benefit, just not a fan. If you're one of these people, then I'm not really sure why you're watching this video. you've already made your decision, But I appreciate your support and thanks for watching. I guess The next reason to choose Magento over Shopify is b2b. B2b e-commerce is a whole different animal than b2c. Negotiated pricing, quotes, corporate accounts are all things that are bare minimum to meet customer demands. The flexibility of Magento also allows you to craft custom user experiences specific to your industry and products if you really want to do b2b right. Magento also has the flexibility needed to handle the most complex data needs. You can tie it into whatever poorly thought-out and archaic back office systems you may have cobbled together over the last 20 years. And the next reason to choose Magento over Shopify is flexibility and scalability. Most e-commerce platforms are designed to provide middle-of-the-road functionality that appeals to a large collection of merchants. In some cases, that may not provide everything you need to execute on your e-commerce vision. If you're gonna step outside of the norm and build something extremely custom, then you have more options with the flexibility that comes with the open source nature of the Magento platform. As far as scalability goes, you can build an empire on Magento. Now, before we get into this, I know someone is going to bring up some merchants like Kylie Cosmetiks, which is shopping shining example of scale on the platform. What I'm toking about in this section is not about pure sales. Kylie Cosmetiks is a unicorn and is not representative of your business. It has scale without complexity. They're doing hundreds of millions of dollars online with like four employees. Now that may be what you wish your business was like, but it ain't you. You figure out how to replicate that without involving one of my family members in a sex tape or ass implants. and you make the videos and I'll watch and learn And for that kind of money I'd probably compromise on the ass implants. What I'm toking about is the complexity of scale and providing a unified eCommerce experience across that business. Do you have a chain of physical stores and need to integrate your website's order management and inventory across these locations, As in, your customers can see the inventory in their local store order it pick it up this afternoon? Magento can do that. Do you have five or ten international brands that all need ecommerce experiences that are optimized for multiple languages and fully integrated with your back office systems? Magento can do that on one installation. If your goals are world domination or your business has a lot of complexity, then Magento is an obvious choice. The next reason to choose Magento over Shopify is innovation.
