Shopify Affiliate Program 2022 (New Platform, Sign Up, & Commission Info)

calling all affiliate marketers. shopify is a huge platform and their affiliate program has just changed. let's tok about it. so, first and foremost, i want to kind of walk you through what they have in terms of how you can apply, getting started, and, of course, i'm going to go through the commission change and what it means for you. says: create new entrepreneurs, earn more than just commissions, grow your brand with shopify, access exclusive opportunities and earn a commission through our referral program. become a shopify affiliate. now, they don't have a whole lot of information when it comes to this, but what i do want to let you know is that they've actually moved over to impact. that's going to be where all the stats are. that's where you can see if you've made any actions, like a trial, and, of course, if that trial has converted into a paid conversion, because that's where the the best of the commission aspect is going to be. i'll tok about that more in a sec. tok some from some of their affiliates. so it has some of the faqs. i'm going to answer these. what is the affiliate program? it includes entrepreneurs, educators, influencers and content creators who inspire and teach their audience about entrepreneurship with shopify. the program is free to join, which is good and allows you to monetize your audience and earn commissions from each new shopify merchant referral. uh, what requirements do you need to apply if the own and run an active website? have an established audience, create original content such as online courses, seminars, blog posts or videos, have an experience with shopify or other ecommerce platforms. and you have to read and, of course, agree to the shopify partner program agreements. uh, however, i know if it's accepted, our team will carefully review your application. in most cases, applications to the affiliate program are processed within 15 days. how a referral is tracked? so, once you're accepted to the affiliate program, you will receive unique reference handling your affiliate link and tracking all the referrals, and so on and so forth. once again, that's going to be done in the impact. what is the commission structure? ironically enough, it doesn't say specifically, but i took a screenshot of the inside of impact which i'll show you soon. since you're eligible to receive a commission for merchants that you refer to a paid shopify plan through your affiliate link. there is no maximum number of merchants you can refer and we want to earn as much as possible. how does payment work? that's going to be through impact, and so on and so forth. so, first and foremost, i want to tok to you before what it used to be. it used to be a 200 percent. so what do i mean by that? if someone bought the 29 per month plan, you get paid 29 in one month and then, like the month after, you get paid 29 again, so pretty much you would double whatever they signed up for. so instead of that they've actually moved to. just any time a trial moves over to a paid plan, you're just going to get a one-time payment of a hundred dollars. now this is going to be so much better. if you've been an affiliate in the past and say you were promoting shopify and you found that most people were getting basic- which i've seen in my experience, because, if you think about it, a lot of people who are just getting started are mostly gonna go for the basic plan, especially for the fact that if there don't have a ton of sales, they don't have a ton of traffic, they don't need all the bells and whistles- it makes sense to do that. so, given the fact most people are going to be on basic, that's going to be around. was that 58 you would get per customer. now that's going up to a hundred, okay. so here is the screenshot i took for you. so, first and foremost, there's going to be the free trial, api. so whenever someone clicks on your link and they get started with a free trial, it's going to show up as an action in your account for impact and, of course, if they transition on over and they get a paid plan, regardless of what it's going to be, it's going to be a hundred dollars one time, okay. so that's going to be the really big difference. i think that's an overall upgrade, like i toked about, because there's going to be so many more people who just go for the basics starting off, as opposed to someone getting like one of the huge accounts up and running. unless you're the type of person who's looking just for individuals, those types of accounts, then, yes, it's not going to be as good, but overall i think it's a big improvement. you get a 100 one time and that's going to be the commission change. keep in mind i'm recording this. you know when this video releases, this can always change. you know they they might do something different, but that's going to be like pretty much the big overview in terms of the switch being paid: the 200 percent based upon the plan that they sign up for, as opposed to just paying you 100 one time. so that's all the details i toked about when it comes to the pricing, what it used to be, the commission change and, of course, how you can sign up. i'll leave a link down below where you can apply and, like i said, they're going to be on impact now. they used to have their own platform within shopify, but they've changed that as well. thank you so much for watching. i hope you got some value out of this and it answered a lot of the questions when it comes to the shopify newer affiliate program. that's about it. thanks again for watching and i'll tok to you soon.

How To Start An Affiliate Program For Your Shopify Store (Full Tutorial)

all right, what's up guys? this is jake, and in this video we're going to be taking a look at how you can go ahead and set up an affiliate marketing program for your shopify e-commerce store. so, if you're not already familiar, affiliate marketing is where you have other people that are out there actively promoting the products on your store and then, whenever they successfully refer a customer over to your store, they will be given a percentage of the sale. so this is another potential traffic source that you can go ahead and use for your store, and it's cool because it doesn't really cost anything upfront- you're only really paying people out once you already make sales. so it's definitely a good traffic source to have. so what we're going to go ahead and do is we're going to walk through how you can set up this program step by step, and we're going to be using the up promote affiliate marketing app right here. this is a good app for affiliate marketing. it has everything you need and you can see right here it has a ton of good reviews here on the shopify app store. so if you want to go ahead and follow along with the video, you can go ahead and click the first link in the description to go ahead and install, i'll promote on your store and let's go ahead and get started here. so as soon as you go ahead and install the app on your store, you're going to be brought to this dashboard page right here. so we're going to go ahead and walk through pretty much everything you need to know to go ahead and set up. i'll promote. so we're gonna be going through everything inside of the app here. so the first thing we're gonna go ahead and start with here is the quick start option here. so if we click on quick start, what it's going to do is it's going to go ahead and show us some basic steps to go ahead and get our affiliate program up and running. so we're going to go ahead and click on start- quick setup right here. we can see here that we're going to have general information here. so the initial affiliate program is going to be right here, by default, the standard affiliate commission and right here this is going to be the description of that. so you will get 10 commission on total referral sales when a customer makes a purchase. so this is what the potential affiliates are going to read when they are signed up for your program here, and then we can see here: we can set the commission structure here and by default it starts off with the percent of sale at 10. so i'm going to just go ahead and leave this at default, but i will show you how you can go ahead and make changes to this later. so i'm going to go ahead and click next and save and then, right here, we can go ahead and upload our website logo right here. so we're gonna just go ahead and do that right now. so once you upload your logo, we're gonna go ahead and go to the next page right here and we can see that now we get to customize our affiliate registration form. so this is going to be the form that our potential affiliates see when they're trying to sign up for our affiliate program. so you're going to get a link that you can go ahead and send out to potential affiliates or put on your store, and they're going to be brought to this page right here and this is where they can enter their information to go ahead and join your affiliate program here. so we can go ahead and edit some of this if we want. so right now, the page heading which shows up right here just says: join our affiliate program and then we have the different benefits down here that we can go ahead and put in benefits of our affiliate program. so by default it autofills all of this with this information right here, which is fine. you don't have to change any of this. but if you do want to change some benefits in here, you want to put in some custom benefits, you can go ahead and do that right here, or you can even change this. it doesn't have to actually save benefits, you can literally change it to whatever you want. but normally by default it's easier to just kind of keep it how it's already set up and then right here we can go ahead and change our colors right here. so we have our submit button color, which is this button, right here. we have the page background color here, which is white, and then we have the check mark color and then we have the login button color right here. so what i recommend doing is just going ahead and changing these buttons to whatever color the buttons are on your store. so if your storage primary colors are like blue, then you want to make sure you put that same blue hex code in here for these buttons, just because you want the affiliate signup page to go ahead and match that of your store's branding. so once you go ahead and do that, you're going to just click next, save, and then that. lastly, we can go ahead and select our available payment method below so you can pay out your affiliates via paypal, bank transfer, debit card, check, venmo and these other options right here. now i am going to recommend that you use paypal, because paypal allows you to do automatik payments, which we're going to be taking a look at later. so paypal is definitely the easiest one to go ahead and use. so i'm going to just keep that selected and i'm going to click next. and now we can go ahead and see here that the setup process has been all but complete, and it's going to go ahead and give us a list of suggestions of things that we need to go ahead and do to go ahead and make sure everything is set up. so what i'm going to go ahead and do now is i'm going to just click on exit and we're going to go through setting up the rest of the app here. so the first page that we're going to be brought to here is our dashboard, and then, here on our dashboard, here, we're just going to be presented with a bunch of different options of information and things that we can do. so we can see it just shows some updates here about new features we have. we can see performance of our affiliates and we can sort it by different dates right here, and we can sort it by different programs that we may have, and then we can see who our top affiliates are, right here and etc. also here on the dashboard page is going to be our registration form, so we can see that this is the link to our registration form that we went ahead and just created. so if i were to go ahead and copy this registration form right here and open up a new tab, we can see that now we are brought to this page here where it says to join our affiliate program, and if somebody were to go ahead and fill this out, they can go ahead and join our affiliate program just like that. so what i would recommend doing here is you're going to essentially be taking this link and creating either a page or a link on your shopify store so that way people can actually click to this. so the easiest thing you can do actually is you can go ahead and come down here to navigation under online store. you can just go to your footer menu and you can go ahead and click add menu item and you can call it something like become an affiliate, and then you can go ahead and just paste the link in right here and then you can click add and then it's added to the menu right there and then you save your menu. and now if we come over here to the store real quick, you can see that we have the become an affiliate option and if you look down in the bottom left of the screen here, we can see that we now that this leads to the registration page that we created earlier. so one thing you can do also besides just putting it as a link in your footer menu, is you can create a whole page for your uh affiliate program if you want, like a custom page on your shopify store that like kind of describes the affiliate program or whatever. however, that's kind of what your registration page already does. so that's why the link in the footer- or you can put it in your main menu if you want- works fine, and then you can also share this link via email and you can obviously just give it to potential affiliates directly as well. so, with that said, now we're going to g.

clicked on this video, you probably have an idea of what affiliate marketing is, but, to summarize it as succinctly as i can, affiliate marketing is an incentive structure that encourages people- usually social media influencers, content creators and website owners- to recommend you to their audience in exchange for earning a percentage of any actual sales they bring into you. in other words, they don't make money until they help you make a lot more money first. this means that affiliate marketing is based on reciprocating incentive. i mean you want people to promote your business and products for you, and those people want to earn extra money by making a percentage of the sales that they generate. in practike, you provide a way for folks to sign up to receive a special link that's tied to them. they share that link, so when their audience clicks on it and makes a purchase on your website, the sale is recorded for both you and them in a dashboard so that everyone knows the results and commissions are automatikally paid periodically. it's really win-win in the best sense possible, because on the affiliate side, it doesn't take a lot of work for people to sign up and share links and on your side, once your affiliate program is set up, you don't need to spend a lot of time to babysit it and, best of all, you don't pay your affiliates a penny up front. you only pay them when they deliver you sales. but because affiliate marketing is commission based, the very first thing you'll need to do is to ensure your pricing and, more importantly, your profit margins are big enough that you'll remain profitable after commissions are paid. there's a concept called the double keystone that you can use to evaluate your pricing. double keystoning means that, as an absolute minimum, the stiker price of each of your products doubles at every stage between manufacturing and the end customer receiving it. now this can just be doubling once if, for example, you're making the products at your dining room table and selling direct to consumer on your website. so if it costs you ten dollars to make one product, the double keystone rule means that you need to sell each one for at least twenty dollars, and that is a bare minimum. but let's say you found a manufacturing partner to make your products for you and not only do you want to sell direct to consumer, you also want to wholesale to other stores so that they can sell for you as well. if it costs your manufacturing partner five dollars to make it, they'll at least double that and charge you ten dollars for each. then you at least double what you pay to sell wholesale to other stores, charging them at least twenty dollars each, and they in turn at least double that and sell for at least forty dollars to their customers who buy from their store. as a side bonus, this means you quadruple your costs when folks buy directly from you. sweet, this means that when you list the product on your own website, you'll need to list it at at least 40 as well, so you're not undercutting your wholesale clients. by observing the double keystone rule as an absolute minimum, you ensure that your margins are high enough to be able to support an affiliate marketing program. now that you've priced your products in a way that can support an affiliate marketing program, let's get into the good stuff: how to actually create a successful affiliate program. since the incentive for your future army of affiliates is to earn money, the first step is to ensure you can create the conditions to make it attractive for them to do so. put yourself in their shoes. what they want is to earn more, so it stands to reason that you want to start structuring your program to feature the highest earning products for them to promote, since if the value of what they promote is high, their commissions in turn will be high as well. your store may have a hundred different products ranging between five dollars and five hundred dollars. if we use an example of a ten percent commission, which would be more attractive to your future affiliates to earn fifty cents per sale on a five dollar item or fifty dollars on a 500 item, of course, you can absolutely enable affiliates to earn their commission on everything in your store. but this first step is about making a program that will be attractive for folks to want to sign up to be one of your affiliates. digging into some psychology here: us, as humans, are easily paralyzed by choice. we want things to be frictionless. so in the context of creating an affiliate program, we want to be able to quickly and effectively communicate the potential of being one of our affiliates. so this first step is about creating the program, making it jump out at potential affiliates and creating the communication materials so it's as easy as possible for them to sell for you. i'm toking about being able to have a landing page that communicates things like: hey, you love our products, earn up to fifty dollars for every sale you bring us. best of all, you can download our rapid start guide that includes gorgeous product shots and copy-pastable messaging, including the ability to offer your audience a first-order discount and free shipping on orders over 100. the photos, by the way, in that download pack could all feature your higher tiket items. so these affiliates are psychologically anchored to earning more. you're also making their promotional workflow easier for them by creating copy pastable messaging. finally, with end customer incentives like free shipping and a first order discount, you are increasing the likelihood that their audience will make an order, thus earning both you and your affiliates money sooner. so to summarize step one, you are designing the bare bones of the program itself and the communications materials to be as compelling and as attractive for your future army of affiliates to want to sign up and, more importantly, want to actively continue to promote your products to their audience. step two is all about building the actual commission structure and validating it with some math. of course, the higher the commission your future affiliates can earn, the more likely they are to dedicate more focus to promoting you. but you need to ensure the money makes sense. let's say, for example, you're selling a jacket that costs you twenty dollars each to get from your manufacturer and you're selling it for one hundred dollars when it sells. you tiknically have eighty dollars left over, but you need to cover your overhead costs like renting your office, the packaging the jacket will go into when you ship it, your own salary and other expenses like your paid ads and your year-end accounting costs, taxes, all of that after your calculations you determine that all of those combined account for 40 dollars worth from each jacket sale. so you have an additional 40 left over from that initial 100 sale. you also determine that you want to keep another twenty dollars from each sale to bank and reinvest back into your business to help it grow, which means you have twenty dollars left over to play with meaning from that one hundred dollar sale. you can afford to allocate twenty dollars- or in this case with such a convenient number, 20- in things like discounts and affiliate commissions, since you're already p.

so good news, you can literally be any type of business and have an affiliate marketing program. so if we think about fashion or if we think about subscription boxes, those are definitely popular when it comes to affiliate marketing. but if you're familiar with bluehost, for example, they sell domains and they have their own affiliate program. so you can pretty much be any type of business and run an affiliate marketing program. so how do you find affiliates? so there are many ways to find affiliates, both passive and active, so that you can start building out your roster of partners. so if you put a link in the footer of your website, this is a solid but passive way to introduce visitors to your program. so this link would lead visitors to a page and that page is going to be dedicated to describing how your program works and it will also include a sign up form. so the sign up form would then be vetted by you so that you can allow you know who you want to let into the program. for the field section, you can have a questionnaire and you can ask them for their social media handles and how familiar they are with your products. a more active way to find affiliates is by reaching out to your existing customers via email. so recruiting customers is pretty smart because, first of all, they already know and love your products and, secondly, they would probably be flattered that you're including them. and then another method, of course, is reaching out to influencers. so start by emailing or start by dming 10. you know, this doesn't have to be anything super formal, it doesn't have to be anything, you know, super intense. you can literally just drop them line and invite them. but what i will say is just make sure that you are giving them the link to your affiliate program page and then that way they can check it out for more information, should they be curious. now i want to mention that you shouldn't feel like your business has to be perfect or your website has to be perfect before you reach out. there's no such thing as perfect, so don't let that hold you back from starting your affiliate program. so this is a common question: how much should you actually be paying your affiliates? so usually you pay your affiliates a percentage of the total sale. the short answer is that you can pay your affiliates anywhere between five and thirty percent. the long answer is: how you pay your affiliates is gonna depend on a few factors. so it's gonna depend. number one: how much can you afford? secondly, what is the going rate in your industry? and, of course, what your average customer lifetime value is. but if that all sounds like a lot- and i admit i feel like that's you know a lot- to calculate, what you can do is you can start low, so start with 10 and then, if you need to work your way up, you can do that later. now it might take a bit of, you know, testing and trying to find that sweet spot. you want to make sure, of course, that you're happy with your profit margin, but you also want to make sure that your affiliates are happy with how much they're making. but just keep in mind, the more that you uh pay them. so the more generous you are with your payouts, the easier of a time you will have. number one, finding your affiliate marketers and, secondly, keeping your army of affiliates. so, for example, tripadvisor, their affiliate program pays 50 commission, and that's super generous. now there's one more crucial piece to this puzzle that we're toking about here. so okay, you're giving your affiliates a cut to incentivize them to promote your products, right. but you also have to think about what would incentivize the customers to actually use that affiliate code and buy. you know you need them to use the codes to make this model work. so in order to do this, it's common for businesses to give customers a discount as well for using affiliate codes. so, for example, majuri, they give 10 off to their customers and they pay affiliates a percentage of the sale made as well. now, by this point you might be thinking, oh my god, that's a lot i'm giving away for free. but just you know, don't sweat it if you seriously want to use affiliates as a part of your marketing. just work this into your pricing strategy. you may have to up your prices in order to accommodate for the cost of affiliate marketing, so just keep that in mind. super common question is: should i be sending my affiliates product in order for your affiliates to sell effectively? of course you want them to be able to speak honestly about your products, so if they aren't already previous customers, then definitely you're going to want to send them some products to test out. if you know that you can only afford to give them a small cut of the sales you know, so you know that's not eating too much into your profit margins- then maybe, yes, throwing in some free products into the mix might be a really good way to sweeten the deal. having you know them play with your products and try them out, that can really help turn your affiliates into die hard brand advocates. how can you tell which influencers are bringing you sales so you can easily track which influencers are bringing you in, you know, added website traffic and added sales. now one way to do that is to use a discount code. so shopify allows you to set up a unique discount code for each of your affiliates so that way, you can track how many sales were made, because shopify is going to tell you how many times a discount code has been used. so another method: if you've ever heard of the term affiliate link, this refers to a unique url that contains the name of the affiliate. merchants use this link to track how much traffic and how many sales each affiliate is making. so what happens is the affiliate is going to drop that link in their content so they can put it in their instagram bios, they can put that in their blog posts, among other places as well, and then you, as the business owner, you can see metrics like how many times that link was clicked and the number of sales that it generated. so if you're watching this video, maybe you're struggling to grow sales. i know we've all.
