How to Boost Sales For Your Clothing Store with Shopify Shipping Insurance [2022 Strategy]

All- everyone Christian here- Porch pirates are taking over. One in three Americans have had a package stolen and also one in ten packages in the US arrives damaged. So Shopify has a new solution, that's shipping insurance. no matter if you have a clothing store or a pet shop, Shipping insurance can offer an extra layer of protection when you send items to your customers. And for customers it can be a frustrating experience having to contact shipping carriers, having to go through the process of awaiting a reimbursement via the claims process. So it's just a pain for the customer right to have to go through that process. And, once bought, that whole ordeal can damage that repeat purchase of that potential customer. So here's a quote: Nearly 40% of shoppers are unlikely to give retailers a second chance after a poor delivery experience. So let's tok about shipping insurance. What is shipping insurance? So Shopify has included now automatikally up to $200 for eligible labels purchased through Shopify shipping. So they're partnering with ship insurance and this included insurance is available to businesses on the Shopify, The Advanced and the Shopify Plus plans And it applies to US Origin, Domestik and international shipments. So it just has to make sure that it comes out of the US, But it can be domestik or can be anywhere around the world. If you subscribe to the basic plan it doesn't automatikally tack on to to the shipping label but you can actually buy the shipping insurance at a competitive price. if you want The full explanation, will make sure to put in a link in the description with the shipping insurance coverage terms. I do want to just kind of mention a couple of things in there. When you click on that link it will give you that sort of the small lettering right And it gives you you know how the claim disputes work, claim requirements and all that kind of stuff. And one of the biggest things is like the exclusions list right. There are things that are not covered with this plan. So I would highly highly suggest you click on that link and look at some of those things, because there are certain products that are not are not covered. So things like tikets or gift cards or neon signs, glass window, cotton, flowers. So there's quite a few things in there. So make sure that you go through that to understand that a little bit better. And obviously, shipping to different countries- like we mentioned about international, but not all countries are tiknically covered under the shipping insurance. Now, before we touch on the benefits of shipping insurance. I just want to say we have many of those. You can ship and deliver stress free, right. So no matter what happens to your shipments while in transit or upon delivery, your peace of mind, right that you're covered for package damage, loss and theft on, again, eligible orders. Number two: you can save time and money on the replacement. So, in case the shipment needs to be replaced, you can recoup the value of the original merchandise- Again damaged, lost or stolen- plus the shipping costs. To do that, you can just file the claims directly from the Shopify admin, which only literally takes a minute, and it speeds up the process significantly. Number three: you provide just a better buying experience for your customers. You can also communicate your share, an insurance coverage, on your sites, fake you product shape and return pages, etc. to again help reassure and convert customers. It's going to help you with conversions because they're going to know, Hey, my package is going to be covered within this. So if they experience a lot of theft or they've experienced loss or damage, then they had to have that piece of mind that the packages and their items are covered under this insurance And obviously with that you improve your repeat health right. With easier and more comprehensive shipping insurance coverage, you automatikally pass on the convenience and shipment protection to your customers, which again helps build up trust and loyalty with them. Now shipping insurance helps you boost conversions And in order to track conversions better, we're using a tool called Triple Whale for all of our client and group coaching members. This powerhouse of a tool allows you to see lifetime value of a customer at 30,, 60,, 90 days. And we're really excited about a very specific thing: It's called Estimated Action of customers. So imagine just being able to send out emails or run ad campaigns to customers who are likely to buy from you a second or third time. Right, And you know that they're going to come back because you have shipping insurance. knowing when to send out these marketing messages. It's very, very powerful. So we kind of touched on how do you qualify a little bit earlier in the video, but let's just dove a little bit deeper into what packages actually qualify for shipping insurance. And again, like we said, shipping insurance is automatikally included up to $200.. Anything beyond that I think you do up to $5,000.. You had to just shell out a little bit more money, which is not a whole bunch either. Your shipment must meet the following criteria in order to qualify for the included shipping insurance of the $200 in order value. So, number one, your business is on the Shopify Advanced or Shopify plus plan. Number two, the shipment is shipped from the United States. Number three, the label is purchased through Shopify Shipping and number for your store has Shopify payments activated. Number five, the label has a tracking number included. And lastly, the products comply with ship surance, terms of service. and then the products compliant- Again is that link in the description that we have where I kind of briefly toked about the fact that you can't do cash or anything regarding guns or hemp derived products, glass, tobacco, cotton, eggs, perishable products. So there's a whole list of a lot of different items in there that you want to make sure that you know what's going to be included. Again, shipping insurance- it's going to be great for your store and great for conversions. And, again, ease of mind and building trust with your customers. I will say shipping insurance is pretty new, So it might be still in early access or limited availability. So if you don't have it immediately on your store, then just know that it will be coming in the future to to more stores. Again, you can ensure that your shipment is, ensure that your shipment is insured. Yeah, When you buy the actual shipping label and again take into consideration all the things that we toked about, Again, it's something that is going to be very, very beneficial for store. I believe you're out in Utah, correct? yes, correct amount a little early today, but oh, it's great, I got to get after in the morning, you know, exactly, awesome. well, go ahead and get started. we're gonna tok about a couple different things today. first of all, we're gonna tok about what. what is route? what does it do? we're also going to go into how shinin calm the platform has used over the past couple months, go into some of the benefits that we've kind of highlighted that we think our Shopify users and sellers are really gonna give value out of how it's used by both the Shopify seller and the actual customer of the product, and then go into how the integration works if you're using shine, on what it costs, and then we'll answer a couple questions and see what we've got. so let's go ahead and get started. the first question is: you know what is route, what? what is shipping insurance and what does it do? yeah, great question. um, I think the best way, kind of the start, is to take a go back a few years and our CEO was, you know, doing some conversion and and web optimization for some other companies and an area that you know they identified as somewhere that they could increase customer confidence was actually through this. you know very small amount of money to pay for shipping insurance. it was shipping insurance was you know something that they, they, they realized that if they offered right, they'd be able to build that trust and make sure that customers have that confidence. so, you know, fast forward a few years, right, it's spun into an entire company that has we have over 4,000 websites currently offering route. you know, our network has grown to over 10 million customers and it's it's it's actually incredible to see how fast the market has, you know, kind of attached to to our business and and is running with it. so, um, yeah, that's kind of you know where we started in reference to the picture that we have up or you see, you know an app with tracking on it. so, you know, as we continue to build out our product, we also have a visual tracking app that you can offer to your customers for complete, completely for free, so they can download the app and they can track their packages in there as well as file a claim if they were to add the insurance as they go through checkout. so hopefully that makes sense. we can have two products: tracking and insurance. but you had the insurance pieces. you know we cover stolen packages, which you know try to go to a FedEx right and ask for them to to cover that for you. you're probably not gonna do very well. I mean, as you know, you mean even Amazon. they, you know they take pictures of the package on the doorstep right to kind of wash their hands. but hey look, we did our part. and so if it gets stolen or anything happens from here on out, you know it's not our, we don't have to take care of it, and so you know, there's companies that are doing things to mitigate this issue that's growing, which has really been good for us to get into the market. awesome, and you know, obviously, in today's market it's like you said. we all hear about stories about ports pirates. I feel we delivered it yesterday. I go there, it's nothing and he shows up two days later. so the shipping right now is all. there's a lot of questions out there and, as we know, as a company every day we're finding out about USPS is having more delays and things like that. so their shipping is a nightmare, especially as a customer service person, I I wish they would all adhere to the two days. they say it's gonna be an end up being five or, but let's go ahead and go on and tok about how shinin calm has used it. I'll go ahead and take a little bit of leave. you know, like I said, Christmas season we had great sales, which are all of our sellers as well had great sales. it was an awesome holiday season to be a seller but along with having come, you know, a lot of sales, there's a lot of customer service to deal with, a lot of issues to deal with. like I said, porch pirates out there- package is going missing. now shine on as a service to our sellers. if your Shopify seller and you use our app and one of our packages go missing, we generally just we remake it for free and ship it. we eat the cost so that our Shopify stores don't have to. now, not every service is as good as that and it's not necessary something that we use a company like doing, but we choose to do that to add a little bit of value to to what we do. but, like I said, we dealt with a lot of that and we saw it becoming a pervasive issue. so that's where we went out and we got in touch with you guys and have now put you into our platform and, the way you know, we're able to reduce our customer service issues if someone has made a purchase on China comm and opted in to have route added or route on their order for very cheap cost- I've generally less than a dollar. they they come to us and say, hey, my package never arrived and we checked the tracking and you know it's delivered. they said it never arrived. oh, you bought route here, go file a claim and you guys take it from there. and, yeah, it reduces the amount of back and forth that we've had with customers, because it's always well. did you receive it? did you check your mailbox? did you check here? did you check there? and it ended up taking us like three, four days, multiple communications and it's a huge time-suck on. you know the customer service department, all of our agents, yeah, and, and you know we've had really good usage. I stay beyond average usage on our site. 95% of our orders have chosen to use route, which is awesome and believable as a customer service person. thank you, yeah, and, and I mean we can. obviously we have. we have a lot of web sites we're partnered with and and there's something about maybe the price point and a small box right or some jewelry. where it's, it's it's high value to the custome.

hello and welcome to another episode of the e-commerce coffee break. a lot of merchants have a problem that their delivery arrives at the client, at the customer- and got stolen, so porch piracy is a big issue there. other issues along the way can happen, so the delivery just disappears and then a situation appears where there's a lot of finger pointing: the client, the customers not happy, the merchant is not happy, and so on and so forth. there is some solutions for that and we want to dive into one solution today to make the life of everyone a little bit better there. so therefore, I have with me Jared has. he's the digital agile solution supervisor of UPS Capital. he has been with UPS capital for last over three years and has been an instrumental part of the creation of up yes, capital's endure Shield app for Shopify. it's an app designed to help Brands improve their conversion rate, brand affinity and brand loyalty by protecting against shipping mishaps, including porch piracy. hello, Jared, how are you today? I'm doing well, doing well. thanks for having me. I really appreciate it. you're welcome. tell me a little bit more about the landscape or what's happening out there in the world right now with shipping and delivery, where things to to go downhill where it does not really work. I mean, you already kind of hit on a little bit right. there's a lot of things that can go wrong, um, and a lot of things we don't like to think about, especially in the e-commerce world, where it's not the brick and mortar: just hand the- you know- the package over to the customer right there at the counter. you're relying on carriers and you're relying on carriers to get your goods to your end consumer and that's part of your customer experience. so, certainly, Porsche piracy is something that we've seen a major increase within the United States especially, um, I want to say right now those numbers are somewhere around 210 million packages a year are being stolen right off residence Door Service, um, so that's kind of- I'm not gonna say it's new, it's not like it never happened before, but you're seeing an increase in it. and then, of course, just with carriers and um, with all of the packages that are in their networks, there's going to be some loss packages, there's going to be some damage um, every now and then, regardless of what service level you're using, and that's all going to be part of your in-consumers experience shopping through your store. yeah, now, obviously, um, Merchants are interested or have, or often the notion that the shipping company will take care about everything, which is not true, giving a bit of insight on how it actually works. glad you asked that, because what we deal with when we're toking to our Merchants a lot, especially on the front end, is we're toking about carrier liability coverage. so that's where a lot of people have a misconceived notion that they have actual insurance through the carrier that they use, whether that's FedEx, UPS, USPS, DHL. sometimes they even pay extra per 100 worth of coverage that they think is insurance. it's not really the case. it's something that carriers have to offer their merchants or their shippers when they're working through their network. but that's not. that's only going to cover a package when the carrier has been being negligent in that loss or damage of the package. um, I like to get like really deep in the character liability with a lot of people, because so many people call it Insurance to me, which I can't say because I am a licensed insurer. um, but what that does is in cover, um, the replacement cost of the goods if they are lost and damaged, but only when the shipper, so the merchant that is selling the goods and putting them through the network- is able to prove that the carrier was negligent and that loss or damage, which can be very cumbersome. those things can take quite a bit of time- weeks, sometimes even months- just to get resolved. and when they do get resolved, if the carrier is paying, which happens around 50 of the time around. all the major carriers um, like I said, they're really going to pay for the replacement cost, so not what you sold the goods for, but what it would cost you to replace them, and they're not going to take care of your shipping costs. so it's nothing that affirmation hold um as the merchant, and that should be quite a bit of problem, not just in what you don't receive, as far as you know, maybe call again for what you sold- but also for the time that it takes to file these claims with carriers. I mean, I like to take a step back and just remember that a carrier's customer service is not around paying out claims when they have a loss or damage. their main customer service is to try to get your package there without any problems and for the most part they do that pretty well. but when these types of situations occur, which, if you're shipping long enough and you're selling enough through an e-commerce Market, you're going to see these problems with your customers. yeah so there's so many different fields where you hurt your business. you might have claims, you might have, obviously, a very unhappy customer who will give you a bad testimonial, who goes out in the world and puts your name all over the place. so you want to avoid that as much as possible. so I understand UPS came up with a solution, um to solve this, this problem. tell me a little bit about this. yeah so UPS Capital, which is the division of ups that I work for, and that's what we're toking about, are insert Shield products. now, um, we are the shipping experience and insurance division of UPS. so for over 20 years we've had Insurance Solutions for customers for specifically in transit Insurance, not necessarily like a business owner's policy where we're covering your warehouse, but where we are specifically covering your supply chain. obviously, UPS has over a hundred years of experience within Logistiks, so you know that's where we but um, found our Niche. so what we do is we cover the full loss and damage. so what we're toking about is invoice coverage for that loss, not just a replacement cost, um, as well as horse piracy, which we mentioned earlier here, which will never be care or will never be covered- I'm sorry- under carrier liability, because how could the carrier be at fault for something that they successfully delivered to your house but then was stolen before you got it? we do cover that. we started covering that in 2020. we saw that uptik was happening and obviously more people during the pandemic were purchasing their orders online, so their horsepower is going to ramp up, um, but we've offered these Solutions in different ways to customize them for your business. but what we're really getting to right now is trying to meet our customers where they are and where they need insurance, where they can plug and play easily. trying to get more into that ensure tik business, and that's where ensure shield, and specifically the ensure Shield app for Shopify, started with us. okay, now Shopify. as you said, Shopify Merchants have a million different things on their plate and obviously their focus should not be on solving endurance problems there. tell me the best way on how to communicate with your customer or with your to be customer, on what you offer on that site and how it makes their life better and obviously more safe. at the end of the day, absolutely so. you know. what we really try to focus on is the education, and one of the things that we always educate any Merchant on is that carrier liability, or what you're doing with your carrier right now, is not going to cover you in the eventuality of a lost, damage or expiring a test. I think that's important to know because it's just a misconceived notion, especially if you work with the sales person within your carriers Network. they may have told you to put extra coverage on it and it's not really them trying to mislead you. I think a lot of times I don't really know the difference between the insurance and what they offer, um, but also understanding that these situations are going to occur and that you kno.

Route Shipping Insurance Tool for Ecommerce Stores: Demo and Review in 5 Minutes or More

hey, it's Derek and this is Robin. five minutes or more, let's go. what is it? route is a free for merchant shipping insurance app with built-in visual package tracking, kind of like a uber for your packages. and of course, the updates are more like check-ins at warehouses, like you're used to seeing as text updates or other tracking situations, but it's not like you're taking the left turn on a certain Street. it's not that actual up-to-the-minute, because that's just not how tracking packages works. and this tool works across multiple merchants, not just for your store, but for any store the customer shops with online and users route so they can be tracking your package alongside something else they purchase from another store. route is really slick for merchants because it is an optional purchase for the user, which they find over 55% of people will opt in. and then if there is any sort of issue with the package, if it's damaged or someone steals it from their doorstep, whatever it is- then route makes the refund and claims process super easy for the user and you don't get bogged down with any customer service issues. the user gets an email after purchasing the insurance and there is a easy multi-step signup process. it's very easy to file a claim, choose the issue and decide whether to get a refund or exchange. in fact, from your perspective, there's nothing wrong most of the time. route will even repurchase the item directly from your store, similar to any other customer checkout, except it's on their credit card and not your dime. in this way, the customer is getting their replacement product and you may not even be aware of any issue. Rao is handling all the hassle related to the returns and refund process. for those people that have purchased the insurance, it's like having a personal return concierge that you don't even have to pay for. it's covered by the customer when they purchase that optional insurance competitive landscape. so there are traditional shipping insurance partners like USPS, UPS etc. where you can buy insurance from them, usually at a cost to the business or baked into the product price. there are two other types of insurance plug-in tools that are very similar, but I don't believe either of them have the built-in visual tracking. one is called fraidy and the other is called quick. both their partner with Chubb insurance and seem very similar to each other in that they are pushing that small Commission that you'll get paid for each insurance purchase and I don't personally see the value and trying to make a few pennies or commissions off your customer for this. it's really not the key folk, which, to me, is removing the hassle of that return in exchange process for package tracking there are a couple of app alternatives. one is called ship up and the other is called arrive. in both cases they help the user with the package tracking side of their experience, but they don't offer the insurance component. biggest differentiator: Rao is unique in that after user buys the route insurance, they go through routes own signup process and become a route user. they download an app and set up all their shipping information with route. if they purchase another product from another company, users route route already has in all their info. in that way there's a sort of network effect as more people use route and the percentage of insurance purchases will go up, I believe, which is great for route customers and merchants. and the obvious differentiator- that they've combined the visual tracking experience with the insurance component. clearly they are focused on more of a customer centric experience, driving more value to the end-user, and I think that's what's gonna make them a very successful company here. and, by the way, it's free and it's very easy to install on any Shopify store. it's like two clicks, metric impact. with an average opt-in rate of 55 percent, route will become a major part of your product offering. the biggest value add for businesses is how much route cuts down on those returned and restoking costs. route will fully in reimburse store owners for lost and damaged products, allowing you to reship brand new items without having a negative impact on your cash flow. imagine this: you have a 1% loss- their damage replacement rate today, which is essentially one percent of your revenue shrinkage and on your overall margin with route, about half of those will buy insurance and you will actually gain a new sale instead of losing an additional product. that's not just a 50% reduction in that shrinkage, but also an equivocal boost in sales because route is actually buying product from your store. so you essentially lose all lost or damaged shrinkage in your business. your results may vary slightly, but you get the picture. Rao is helping customers achieve a higher level of customer experience, which builds your brand relationship with your customers, and I know you may be thinking that they're building relationship with route, but I see it as both. you gave the user access to route, which is a great way for everybody to work together for a better customer experience. this increases the customers confidence in your brand while decreasing the cost of customer service and your margins. this is a big win. when should you use it really? you can use this at any stage of your business, but it's going to be increasingly valuable for merchants who are currently being bogged down with a lot of returns or replacement orders. it's also extremely important when you're threading the needle of your own margin, because reducing customer service costs will give you a little bit more breathing room. Wynn shouldn't use it. if you sell Rolexes or other high tiket items on the regular, you may want to opt for a more traditional shipping insurance provider. if your average order value is over $4,000 and especially if you're doing low volume, route cannot actually ensure you integrations. wrap will integrate with major platforms like Shopify, blue commerce, Magento or a custom API. they'll work with buy now, pay later tools like after pay a firm or sessile, as it is equivocal, to have it. another item added to the cart: pricing route is a free tool for merchants that makes their money by charging the buyer percentage of the value of whatever item they insure. most of the time, that's gonna be at 1% to 1.5%, but can fluctuate based on risk factors, high fraud and high frequency returns. Rao is going to use your own past data to set rates for your store. the minimum insurance amount is 98 cents. so if you're at the 1% rate and someone is looking to insure on a cart worth 200, it would cost about $2 and obviously that does mean that if you have low average order value, like in the 5 to 10 dollar range, that shipping insurance option is going to be less desirable for you. every time your customer uses route, there's a very small flat rate that route will pay out to you, the merchant, for referring the customer, and that starts at 5 cents and goes up, but it really isn't gonna make a big difference to you or your margins. again, it's about that customer experience set up time and resources. if you are Shopify Plus, you can add a checkout integration which can be done by you or the route team. it's a single line of div code. it doesn't really take that much time to do. the route team will set up in a sandbox version for you and then you can push it live. it's about 15 minutes of work. any developer can do it. if your Shopify only or on another platform, it's as simple as installing the app and then setting up your preferences on the backend, which is mainly deciding between three main options you need to know its users will be auto opt-in versus Auto opt-out, or if you want to pay for the insurance yourself, which I typically don't recommend- the go-to is to op them in automatikally and then they will be able to easily opt out. there's no up that issue. you're not trying to hide something by having them Auto opt into it. it is literally just one of those choice decisions. we're having people Auto o.

All Everyone Christian here- Did you know you have an option when it comes to selecting your shipping provider? Shopify shipping and ship station offer some of the same features, So let's take a look at which one is actually right for you. Shopify Shipping and Ship Section both offer plenty of great features for store owners and in many cases you'll often find that the offerings are very, very similar And at the end of the day, it comes down to your partikular needs. So let's take a look first at Shopify Shipping. We'll go over all of the features and all the things that you get with it, And then afterwards we'll go over ship station and see all the features and things that they offer And towards the end, it will kind of give you a better idea on which one you should. So let's start with Shopify shipping. The main benefit of using Shopify shipping is that it's included in every Shopify account, regardless of your subscription level, Even the starter plan that we just toked about recently. Number one: it's all in one place. So Shopify was designed to make life easier for owners, allowing users to handle their daily order fulfillment in the same place. they manage their product inventory and customers. You're not to go anywhere else. you can buy label or you can ship from there. You can check the status all from one place, So it's a very convenient way to run your business. Now, before we move on to ship stations features, I just want to save you many of those. So things like this and the ability to integrate with actually several sales channels, different CRMs, different ERP, different accounting platforms and different inventory management systems- So it's that multikhannel support that really drags people and end to ship stations. And lastly, you can set up proactive alerts. So sometimes there are things that meet your attention that you might not be aware of. So ships actually send you proactive alerts for descriptions that may need a little extra love, right? So whether you should combine orders when it's time to replenish stok based on a pre-set threshold, and a lot more. ship station really offers a lot of different things than than Shopify. Obviously, at the bulk of it they include some of the same things, like the discounted rates from all the shipping carriers- I mean the ability to keep your inventory all in one place, etc. But the biggest draw to ship station again is going to be that multikhannel. So, for example, if you are running a Shopify store but then you also have items on Walmart and you may say Amazon, then you might need a play a more of a central location better than than Shopify in order to run all those different transactions all going to that one place, And that's where Ship Station four really, really shines.
