Shopify Store Name Taken - Find Out Why And How To Get Around It Here

When starting an eCommerce store on Shopify, one of the common problems faced by users is finding that their desired store name is already taken. This can be frustrating, but there are ways to work around it and still create a professional store.

1. Understanding Shopify URLs:

When you first name your store, Shopify generates a default store URL that uses your chosen name with spaces replaced by dashes, followed by myshopify.com. For example, if your store name is Shopify Store, the URL will be shopify-store.myshopify.com.

2. Checking Availability:

If your desired store name is taken, you can try variations of the name, such as removing spaces or adding extra words. You can also check if the store is still active and try reaching out to the owner to buy the name if they are willing to sell. If the store is inactive, the name cannot be reused.

3. Changing Store Name:

Once you create your store, you can change the store name in your settings, but the Shopify URL remains fixed. However, this URL is not visible to customers and can be changed to a professional domain through Shopify or another provider.

4. Importance of Primary Domain:

Your primary domain is what customers will see and remember, so it is important to ensure that it is available and professional. Before starting your store, research and check if your desired domain is available on providers like GoDaddy.

While finding that your desired store name is taken can be frustrating, there are ways to work around it and create a professional store with a memorable primary domain. Remember that the Shopify URL is not visible to customers and can be changed to a professional domain.
