Shopify 2.0 Templates Tutorial - Create Different Layouts for Product Pages & Collection Pages

Hey guys! Recently, I did a poll on my YouTube channel asking for suggestions on my next video topic. The most voted for topic was Shopify 2.0, so today I want to talk about page templates, a new feature of Shopify 2.0 that many people aren't using yet. It's a powerful and underrated feature that can be customized to suit your needs. One of the most common questions I receive is how to add a specific feature to one product page without affecting the rest of the products on my store.

Using page templates in Shopify 2.0 is the solution to this problem. It's easy to create different templates for different types of products with various features. For example, you can add a gift message field to a product that has some kind of note attached to it or is customizable, without adding it to all your products. You can also use page templates to make a completely different design for different product pages.

Allbirds is a great example of using page templates effectively. They have different templates for their flagship products and other products, which allows them to highlight specific features of each product. They also have different templates for collections and static pages like their Our Story page.

Creating your own templates in Shopify 2.0 is easy. You can duplicate the default product template and customize it to your needs. Once you create a new template, don't forget to assign it to the product or collection you want it to apply to.

In conclusion, page templates are a powerful and customizable feature in Shopify 2.0 that can help you highlight specific features of your products. They are easy to create and assign, and can be used for product pages, collections, and static pages. So, what are you waiting for? Upgrade to Shopify 2.0 and start customizing your page templates today!

All about Shopify 2 0 Themes [Sections and more]

Welcome to another episode of the ecommerce coffee break. Today, we are discussing a topic that is close to the hearts of many Shopify store owners – themes. Specifically, we will talk about how you can easily personalize your Shopify store without the help of a developer. Joining us today is Ann Thomas, the co-founder of DesignPacks at DesignMinersPacks.com, who brings over 13 years of experience in web development and has helped create some of the best Shopify themes on the market.

Background on Shopify themes:

Many merchants start off with a free theme, but eventually upgrade to a premium or custom theme based on their budget and needs. With the launch of Shopify 2.0, there are many new features and themes available. However, many store owners are uncertain about what they should do and are being cautious.

Using sections everywhere:

Ann explains that regardless of the theme you are using, you can start using sections everywhere on your site right now just by adding additional JSON files. These files are backwards compatible with your existing theme and can be used to create landing pages, mix and match, and move things around. This is an excellent time to evaluate your theme and optimize it.

Implementing sections:

To add these new JSON template files, you can work with a developer or install an app that allows you to do so. DesignPacks offers templates that are available and all of them are JSON, which means you can add them with just one click.

Using page builders:

Premium themes often have page builders included, but once you have the JSON templates added, they work the same way as your home page. This means that you can add sections, drag and drop, and move things around as needed.

Optimizing your site:

Ann recommends installing the most recent version of your theme as an unpublished theme and checking out the settings to see if there are any new features or bug fixes. She also advises against cluttering your site with too many apps and instead using DesignPacks to fill in the gaps with additional sections.

In conclusion, sections everywhere is a great way to personalize your Shopify store without the need for a developer. Whether you are using a free or premium theme, you can add JSON templates to create dynamic landing pages and optimize your site. By evaluating your theme and adding new sections, you can improve your conversion rate and create a better user experience for your customers.

Shopify Dev Tips: Dynamic Sections

1. Removing Static Section Tags: To convert a static section into a dynamic section, we need to remove the section tag from index. Liquid. Dynamic sections are automatically injected on the page through the content for index tag. We also need to remove the blocks associated with the section.

2. Adding Presets: To make a section dynamic, we need to add a new property called presets. Presets are an array that takes an object. There are two required fields for presets: name and category. The category helps to categorize the dynamic sections so that they show up in a similar area.

3. Using Dynamic Sections: Dynamic sections work the same as static sections, with two areas: HTML section and content definitions. The difference is the presets property. Presets can take more information, and it places the section as a dynamic section.

4. Limitations of Dynamic Sections: Dynamic sections can only be used on the homepage. However, they can be reused as a static section on other pages. The limitations of static sections should be kept in mind.
