How to Remove Bing Redirect Virus?

Are you experiencing a constant redirection to the Bing search engine on your browser? If so, you may be a victim of the Bing redirect virus. This article will guide you on how to remove the virus from your PC.

What is the Bing Redirect Virus?

The Bing redirect virus is a type of browser hijacker that cybercriminals use to steal personal information from users. The virus hijacks the browser and replaces the default search engine, homepage, and new tab settings with their URL. When a user searches for anything on their URL, the virus records the search query and redirects the user to the Bing search engine for the result. The collected information is then sold to third-party clients and used to display targeted ads on your PC. The collected data could also be used for identity theft, so it's important to remove the Bing redirect virus immediately.

Steps to Remove the Bing Redirect Virus:

1. Uninstall Suspicious Apps:

Check for potentially unwanted applications (PUPs) that may have entered your PC when you installed a free software program. To uninstall suspicious apps, click on Start, type Control Panel, and then click on Uninstall a program. You will see a list of all installed programs on your PC. Carefully observe every program and remove the suspicious ones. Uninstall the programs that you don't use or don't remember installing.

2. Remove Suspicious Chrome Extensions:

Remove any suspicious extensions from your Chrome browser. Open the menu, hover the mouse over More Tools, and then click on Extensions. You will see a list of all extensions on a new page. Carefully observe each extension and remove the ones that you don't need or don't remember installing. To remove them, click the Remove button and then confirm your action.

3. Reset Your Browser:

Reset your browser to delete all modified settings and installed extensions. On Google Chrome, open Settings, click on Advanced on the left side, click on Reset and clean up, and then click on Restore settings to their original defaults. Click on Reset settings to confirm. To reset Microsoft Edge, open Settings, click on Reset settings on the left side, and then click on Restore settings to their default values. Confirm your action.

4. Check the Host File:

The Bing redirect virus could modify the host file on your system, making it more challenging to remove. To check your host file, click on Start, type Notepad, right-click on it, and then select Run as administrator. Click Yes if prompted. Click on the File menu and select Open. Select All Files. Browse your system drive, Windows, System32, Drivers, and then etc. Here, you will see the host file. Select it and click on Open. Ensure that there is nothing after the last line that you didn't add. If there is, delete it, and then click on File and Save.

5. Scan with MalwareFox Anti-Malware:

Browser hijackers are stubborn and can hide in your system. Scan your PC with MalwareFox Anti-Malware, which will scan your PC deeply and find browser hijackers, unwanted extensions, adware, spyware, and trojans. Download and install it from the link in the description, run the scan, and remove the detected threats.

Removing the Bing redirect virus from your PC is important to protect your personal information and prevent identity theft. Follow these steps to remove the virus and ensure that your PC is secure.
