How I Built a 12,000 Person Facebook Group, Monetized it, and Quit my Day Job

In 2016, I was working at a Facebook media partner, where I brought TRX to market and worked with clients like Disney, Papa John's, Pizza Hut, and Progressive Insurance. However, I left that job to join the client side for a great brand, where I was brought in as an assistant to the Facebook guy. Within a week, he put in his two weeks' notice, and I took over his job. By the time I left that company, we were doing 30 to 50 thousand dollars a day, sometimes a hundred out of 2x for OS.

The Problem:

When I left that job, I started joining Facebook groups to continue learning and challenging the status quo. However, I quickly realized that most people in those groups needed help, and those groups were designed to push forward the sales pitch, not help people get better. Moderators got upset when I posted links to free content that they were charging money for, and I kept getting kicked out of groups.

The Solution:

To continue helping people, I started answering people's questions with Facebook Blueprint links, and ultimately, people started following me from group to group. I then started doing Facebook Lives every week inside of my Facebook group, and those questions became my first ebooks. I made a Patreon and charged people to join my Slack group, which now has over 12,000 people. The love and attention I received allowed me to monetize my attention and dedicate my entire day to doing things that I love.

The Facebook ad space is corrupted and filled with illegitimate folks, but by offering free advice and helping people, I was able to turn getting kicked out of a Facebook group into a 12,000 person Facebook group and multiple streams of income that allowed me to live a fulfilling life.
