Part 1 - Shopify App Development - Introduction to Building Shopify Apps from Scratch Using PHP
Hey YouTube, this is Chris from Wigglyhello and welcome to our very first video here in our YouTube channel, Weeklyhell. In this video, we're gonna be teaching you how to create a Shopify app from scratch in programming language PHP. Now, before we can start developing a Shopify application, let's understand first what we need to create a Shopify app.
1. Web Host: One of the most important things you need to successfully create a Shopify app is a web host or a host. It doesn't really matter if it's a local host or a website as long as it's a web host where you can upload all of your files. Although there are a lot of differences between developing locally and not locally, for example, if you develop a Shopify app locally, then you'll most likely encounter an error with security or HTTPS since local host doesn't have certificates in the first place. However, if you develop a Shopify app through your web host, which HTTP is installed, then you won't have much problem at all. So, that's the number one thing you need to consider.
2. Shopify Partner Account: The second thing you need is a Shopify partner account. Obviously, this is where all of your applications will be created, and this is also where you can get the API keys and the secret keys for your applications.
3. FTP or File Transfer Protocol: Whatever, we highly recommend using FileZilla because it's more fast and reliable. Just download it, Google it, and you will be fine.
4. Repository for Generating Access Token: Download a pre-develop script by our friends or developers from Github.
If you think you already have all the things you need, then you can start developing a Shopify app. So, to start, let's open our Google Chrome. As you can see here, I have opened my Weeklyhell.com/start-a-chill-for-developing-Shopify-apps-using-PHP. If you're interested in reading the article, I highly recommend you to look at it. However, also download the Shopify generating, but I believe I already just deleted it.
We have installed that PHP over here. Let's open that. As you can see right here, it can be rich,

Shopify Functions - a new way to customize Shopify
Hey everyone, Jan here from Codingwithyan.com. Shopify functions are a powerful new way to extend or customize Shopify features by writing your own backend code. For the first time ever, Shopify opens up parts of the backend logic for developers. In this article, we'll go over how it all works, what back end logic means, the difference between functions and traditional apps, and how to get started with Shopify functions.

- Shopify opens up parts of the backend logic for developers.
- This article will go over how it all works, what back end logic means, the difference between functions and traditional apps, and how to get started with Shopify functions.
How it all works:
- A store can be thought of in three simple layers: database, back end, and front end.
- The database stores all the data such as historic orders, customers, and product information.
- The back end runs website logic such as managing products, incoming orders, and creating new customers.
- The front end showcases products and data from the store.
- Different technologies allow for customization and working with available data on each layer.
- Historically, developers couldn't make any changes or augment anything in the backend logic.
- With Shopify functions, developers can now reach previously inaccessible areas such as the checkout discount logic.
- Functions run on Shopify's infrastructure and can execute in less than five milliseconds, making them lightning fast.
Difference between functions and traditional apps:
- Traditional apps could implement their own routines and write their own logic via the API.
- However, there were areas that developers couldn't reach using normal apps such as the checkout discount logic or the checkout shipping logic.
- Apps come with a few drawbacks such as limited bandwidth and the need to figure out your own hosting.
- With Shopify functions, developers can now seamlessly integrate their settings into the admin dashboard.
- Settings for functions must still be served through the developer's own server.
Getting started with Shopify functions:
- Shopify functions are not any different from normal functions we know from programming.
- Pick a language that can be compiled to web assembly such as Rust, Go, or AssemblyScript.
- Use a package manager such as Yarn or NPM.
- Have an ngrok account, Shopify partner account, and development store.
- Follow the tutorial provided in the developer docs for building a discount app for volume discounts.
- Deploy the function and test it using the app server.
