5 Things to Know Before You Sign Up for Hulu Live in 2022 | Hulu + Live TV Review!
Hulu Live recently increased its starting price to $70 a month, but it still offers value to cord cutters. In this video, Michael will discuss the changes made by Hulu Live that have increased its value.
Changes Made by Hulu Live:
1. Cloud DVR Storage:
- Hulu Live now offers unlimited cloud DVR storage in its base plan.
- You can save recordings for up to nine months.
- You can fast forward through commercials on your recordings.
- Previously, Hulu Live offered only 50 hours of cloud DVR storage and required a paid upgrade for enhanced cloud DVR.
2. Channels and Content:
- Hulu Live is a cable 2.0 service that offers dozens of popular cable networks, sports, news, and entertainment.
- Local broadcast TV stations are included in the bundle.
- The Disney Bundle, which includes Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu's on-demand streaming library, is now included at no extra charge.
- Disney's move of Dancing with the Stars to streaming on Disney+ shows the value of having the Disney Bundle included with Hulu Live.
3. User Experience:
- Hulu Live can be accessed from the same app as Hulu's on-demand service.
- Personalization options are available, and the more you use Hulu Live, the better the recommendations become.
- The live guide, home screen, and recording options are easy to navigate.
Pros:
- Well-rounded channel lineup and access to Disney Bundle content.
- Unlimited DVR storage matching YouTube TV's offering.
- No contracts or long-term commitments.
Cons:
- $70 per month is steep compared to some competitors.
- No free trial anymore.
- Room for improvement with multiple streams.
- User experience, particularly the live guide, is due for a refresh.
Hulu Live's changes have increased its value for cord cutters, but it may not be the best choice for everyone. When choosing a live TV streaming service, consider the monthly price, channel lineup, and user experience.
Hulu vs. Hulu Live: Which Should You Choose?
Are you looking for ways to save on your TV and entertainment costs, or do you want to cut the cord on cable? Hulu and Hulu Live are likely two streaming services at the top of your list, but knowing which one to choose depends on what you want to be able to watch. In this Hulu vs. Hulu Live review, we break down the cost for each, the channels and content you get for that cost, available add-ons, how Hulu and Hulu with Live TV work, and then we'll wrap up with how to get your local channels without cable. We'll also weigh in with our honest opinion on which is best and what we've done to cut our streaming costs even more this year.
Cost Comparison:
- Hulu costs $5.99 per month
- Hulu Live costs $64.99 a month
Content and Channel Comparison:
- Hulu: With Hulu on demand, you'll enjoy access to all of Hulu's original content like Handmaid's Tale and lots of content from networks including ABC, NBC, Fox, HGTV, and more. Hulu says it offers nearly 2,000 shows and more than 1,500 movies.
- Hulu Live: You get everything that comes with Hulu plus nearly 70 channels of live TV, and you also get local channels.
Features and Add-Ons:
- Showtime for $4.99 a month
- HBO Max for $14.99
- Cinemax for $9.99
- Stars for $8.99
Local Channels:
You aren't going to get local channels obviously with a Hulu subscription because you don't get live TV, but that should not stop you from cutting the cord or going with Hulu. You can buy a digital antenna for forty or fifty dollars, and you'll get all your local channels for free for life.
How Hulu Works:
Both services are super easy to get and use. Just like you have other apps that you enjoy on your tablet, smartphone, laptop, and TV like Netflix, you can download the Hulu app for free, install it on your device or TV, sign up, and start watching.
Our Recommendation:
All of the features and channels offered make Hulu Live a great option, but when they raise their prices to $65 a month recently, we felt that was too much, and so we moved the standard plan. A good deal on Black Friday actually was just a dollar ninety-nine a month for a year. But we also love football and news, so we signed up for Sling Orange at thirty dollars a month. Both services are about half the cost of Hulu Live and give us what we want, and that's really the key.
Since we've cut the cord on cable, we've saved thousands of dollars that we've been able to put to much better use in our budget, and we know that you can do the same. Leave us your questions in the comments below, and if you haven't already, hit that red subscribe button so you can be notified of our new content. Thanks for watching, and we'll see you in our next video.
Hulu Live DVR Upgrade | How Does the Unlimited DVR Perform?
Hulu with Live TV now has an upgraded DVR that offers unlimited storage for nine months, and the ability to fast forward through commercials and recorded programs. In this article, we will share our findings on the upgraded DVR and compare Hulu Live with other popular live TV streaming services.
What's Different about the Hulu Live TV DVR?
- The upgraded DVR is now unlimited, stores recordings for nine months, and lets you fast forward through commercials and programs you recorded off of live TV.
- Before the upgrade, a Hulu Live subscription came with just 50 hours of cloud DVR space, and you couldn't fast forward through commercials on recordings unless you paid extra for the enhanced DVR.
- Unfortunately, you still won't be able to fast forward through ads and on-demand content unless you upgrade to Hulu Live's ad-free plan for $76 a month.
Rollout of the New DVR:
- The rollout of the new DVR was slow going during the day on April 13th, and changes came in waves.
- Every Hulu Live subscriber got access to the unlimited cloud DVR, and the enhanced DVR option disappeared.
Hulu Live vs. YouTube TV:
- The Hulu Live channel lineup is pretty similar to that of YouTube TV.
- Before the DVR upgrade, the main point of comparison was YouTube TV's unlimited DVR versus Hulu Live's on-demand library of original and archived content.
- Now that Hulu Live also has Disney Plus and ESPN Plus, you could argue that its channel lineup and original content might give it a leg up on YouTube TV's programming.
- What service is right for you comes down to price versus content.
Other Live TV Streaming Services:
- Philo and DirecTV Stream both offer unlimited DVR, but DirecTV Stream's plans are pricier and Philo doesn't have sports content or anywhere near the number of channels.
- Sling TV is a solid lower-priced option, but it does not have unlimited DVR.
- Sling makes it easier to see what you have scheduled to record and makes recording options a little more accessible.
The upgraded DVR is definitely a step in the right direction for Hulu Live, and the addition of Disney Plus and ESPN Plus makes the live TV streaming service more appealing for fans of Disney content. While monthly rates continue to rise, it's still usually a big savings over cable, and we still have lots of choices for live TV streaming services. Let us know what your favorite live TV streaming service is and what you think of the DVR upgrade.
