[Music]. hello and welcome to shop forex bus. today we will see how url redirects was in shopify and what is the purpose of redirecting url. so before going into looking into this navigation, url view, url redirects, now we will see how, what we are going to achieve. so if you haven't subscribed our channel, do subscribe it and press the bell icon so you can get all the updated videos in the shopify store development page. so here you see. we have a product here with this. okay, let's go to any product of your store. okay, you, you know, sometimes, uh, we are going to update the title for our product, just like this: [Applause]. sometimes you have to add or delete something like new product or all. then you also have to update your url handle with that wording, for you know seo purposes. so the previous url handle that was like that you want to change still exists in the search engines and as a backlink on different websites from your traffic is coming, like from your clients are wasting from that link. but if we have, if we are going to make some changes in the url handle, you will see that that old link still exists in the backlinks of that websites where people are coming from search engines. but we have now our new url here url handle, so we will just click here, create a url redirect for that link to you know this arrow to this new link right. so when we create this thing, after clicking save, we are creating a url redirect for this change in the url handle and you can see that this url handle has been updated. so, just like this, we will try it: creating different url handles in here in the software online store, in the navigation, see here you see we have option of view url handles and all the handles that are updating from products will also be showing here. you can also create a custom url redirect from here, just like here. if you click on it, you will see that this was the old link and, uh, if someone is listing this or link, just like this in the products, in the products, you know, if we click on a link here of this [Applause]. here you see, we have pasted the old link here, just like this: the store names and products, then the old link, and if we click enter, you see it's taking us to a that has been redirected or updated. in the redirection we entered the old link and it take us to the new, updated link for our store that is in work now and with this way you you will not lose your traffic by updating the titles- like sometimes you know we have to update the name of collections with new years, like if it was 2021, then now you want to make it 2022 and uh, just like same. you can update urls. you can also take the old urls from other stores and update into the new store you have by clicking on import option here. you have to make a template like this for your import list, so you can see that in the import list the format required is like this: like we have one redirect from option in which you will paste all the links that you want to redirect from your traffic to, and here is that links that you want to redirect all those old links to the new links here that is existing in your store now. so this was the url redirection import option and the same thing you can also export it at and use it in another store as a import, so you can make current page export as well as you can also make all url redirects. and then you can export plain csv file and also a csv for excel number or other spreadsheet programs. so this is a good example of updating your old links with new ones to don't lose the old traffic. if you like the video on the topic url redirection inside the navigation we have covered today, then please like it and subscribe the channel, and in the same playlist you will find all the videos regarding the previous sections here, showing from home to pages, and we are covering all the remaining things in upcoming new videos, like for preferences and settings and the things in the settings, and then we will be moving forward to shop file customization of theme and all the things that are important in team customization, like different dynamic sections and things that are useful for making conversion rate high for our shopify store. once again, don't forget to subscribe the channel, like the video and press the bell icon. thanks for your time. have a great day. bye.
(2022) How to Create Custom 301 URL Redirects in Shopify | Create & Manage Redirects on Shopify
how to create custom 301 redirects on shopify. if that's what you're looking to do, then you have made it to the right video. what's up y'all? welcome back to my channel. if you're new around here. i'm mariah from mariahmagazinecom, and in today's video i'm going to walk you guys through the easy, breezy process of setting up custom url redirects for your shopify website. so i actually have videos that tok about 301 redirects, but specifically for wordpress users. i have a video for squarespace users, but i've been getting a lot more e-commerce seo clients and so i was like: hmm, why don't i just create a video on youtube for you guys using shopify, so that you can start to create your own 301 redirects? all right, let's just get into it, okay? so before we get too deep into the sauce here, i kind of just want to explain what is a 301 redirect. essentially, there's two main types of redirects that people tok about. there's a 301 and a 302. the 302 redirect is a temporary redirect. it's basically like: hey, browser for just a little bit. if somebody goes to this url, redirect them to this new url, but it's not permanent, okay, we're only. we only want this redirect to hang out for a little bit. it's not a permanent thing. the 301 redirect, on the other hand, it's a permanent redirection. okay, so it's basically telling the browser: hey, this old url, it doesn't exist anymore. so anybody that goes to this old url- actually i want you to send them to this new url. so we set up redirects so that we can prevent broken links from accumulating on our website. okay, it also comes in handy if you're moving from platform to platform, like, let's say, you're moving from wordpress or squarespace over to shopify. you might notike that the urls- uh, for collections or for your blog posts or whatever the url structure can sometimes change when you're moving platforms. that is where 301 redirects come in handy. okay, so i just wanted to show you guys how to set them up really quick. shopify makes it so easy. so in the left hand menu here, click on online store and then click on navigation and then in the right hand corner, which, honestly, it's a little hidden. why is it this hidden? i'm not sure, but view url redirects. click on this and you will be taken to your url redirect page. okay, it's gonna have a full list of all of your url redirects, but if you're watching this video, you probably don't have any because you don't know how to create them. so, in order to create a 301 url redirect, hit this green button up in the top right hand corner and you'll be taken to this page here. so on this page, we have the redirect from and the redirect to. the redirect from is the old url. it's the url that you're like- listen, shopify, browser, whatever. if anybody goes to this url, this actually doesn't exist anymore. instead, redirect them over to this new url, which is the redirect to url. okay, so i know, as i'm saying, it might sound a little confusing. it's actually pretty simple. so, as you can see here the example, it shows a relative url, so it doesn't show the domain name in here. so i just wanted to make note that you can put the full domain name in here if that feels good for you, or you can just put the relative url in here, which is basically everything after your main domain name, including this backslash, so you can put the full url or this relative url, okay. so same exact thing down here. you can either do the full url or you can do the relative url. so basically, an example of this might be like: i don't know, i'm moving from wordpress over to shopify. maybe wordpress didn't have collections in the url but shopify does, so maybe i have to create a redirect taking them from this old url, like nothing lives there anymore, because now your website's on shopify and they add collections into the url. so it's like we got to move everybody from that old collection url to this new collection url. okay, so go ahead and click save that redirect and basically you're good to go. but i will say you should go and test this. okay, like everything, like always, sometimes there's funky chicken stuff with tiknology. so it's like, if you're setting up a redirect, make sure that it works properly. so obviously i'm not saving this redirect, because this is actually like a client's website, but i would go and i would copy this and i would paste it up here without a double backslash and just make sure. like, obviously i didn't save that redirect, but i would make sure that i didn't get this page. if you see a page not found, this is a 404 error page. that means that your redirect did not work. maybe you put in, maybe you forgot the slash, maybe you forgot something in the url, something. so just make sure that when you put in this old url, that when you enter it into the browser that it redirects to that new url that you wanted to go. always test it, okay. but i will say, shopify makes this pretty, pretty easy here, and so when you're adding here- let me leave this page, let's say, i don't know, you want to change a url of a product because you are working with an seo strategist like myself and maybe we told you that your url is an seo friendly and we need to update it. so what shopify does? it makes it super easy. it's the same thing for both products and collections. so i'm just going to show collections, just because there's less to choose from here. so when you're editing the collection or editing the product, click down here- it's search engine listing- click edit and you'll be able to change the url handle. okay, so let's say that we wanted to target a different keyword here. maybe we wanted to target shop, i don't know- everyday modern wreaths or something. okay, i don't, but if i did, shopify actually will automatikally ask you if you want it to create a url redirect for you. okay, so this is: oh, shoot. well, also, make sure that you only have one dash in here and not two, so you can leave this checked. and if you leave this checked. it will show up back in this navigation view url redirects. okay, it will show up in this section. this is actually how i created these for the client of like. her old collection name was slash shop dash christmas. we wanted to make it a little bit more seo friendly, so we did shop dash christmas- dash wreaths. okay, so just know that if you're doing that from the product or the collection end that they should show up here in this database, you can come in here and double check to make sure that it got added here. usually shopify is really good at that, but this is awesome for making sure that your website doesn't accumulate a bunch of broken links and not so great 404 errors on the page. so that's basically it. when it comes to setting up 301 redirects, i told you shopify makes it super easy. so that's it for today's tutorial. if you guys found this video helpful, give me a really quick thumbs up. it really does mean a lot. it helps the youtube algorithm kind of show my videos to more people. and if you have a shopify website, comment below and let me know, because i don't really, honestly, have a lot of tutorials for shopify websites. so if you're an e-commerce shop. you're using shopify. make sure that you comment below and let me know so that i can create more tutorials especially for you guys. and if you're not already subscribed to the channel, make sure you hit that subscribe button. turn on bell notifications and i will see you in the next video. How to create url redirects in Shopify 2019 for 301 redirects or 404 error page
hello Shopify store owners and welcome. in this video I want to show you how to do URL redirects. this will be useful if if you did some changes through to a product or collection, to some pages, or also in the case that you're moving from another store or from another platform. if you're coming from WordPress, from Magento, the structure of the URL will be different on Shopify than what you used to have. so it's really important for SEO to not send your customers to a 404 page and not found' page. it's. it's important, if you do know the URLs, that you set them up in Shopify. so let's see how we can do it. go in your admin panel, click on online store, then click on navigation and you have over here URL redirects. so what you can do you, you have two options. if you have only a few URL redirects that you want to put in, just create a URL redirect. if not, you can also import. if you want to do the import, you just click over here on import and you can download the CSV template over here. so you're ready: rec file. csv file will look something like this: you just need to provide your old URL and the new URL right here. that's pretty simple and in this one it's easier. if you have 50, a hundred of them, you can just copy paste them here and then provide the new URL. so once that, once that is done, then you can just upload your file here and do import. in our case, let's go back to the URL redirect here and create a new URL. so if you're doing one by one, all you need to have is your old URL over here. so you have your old URL- let's just assume it's calm- and then where you want to put it in, because this is Shopify and it's your own platform, you don't need to always type your your store URL. for example, if you want to redirect to your one of your product or, in this example, the color collection, you can just take this part and paste it into your redirect too and you hit safe. so this is, this is created. you can continue to add more, create another one. you can view your redirects. there's no need to add the HTTP, because this, this URL redirect, will work for the domain name that you have registered with your Shopify store. so we are assuming that is the same domain name that you had before on another store. if it's not the case, it should be. that's how this is working. so if you had something else over here that it was product and it's on WooCommerce, this this link will will still work with your new domain name, but it will point to a 404 page. so if somebody is trying to link to this with the redirect, they will actually go to your resurrect specify URL over here. so that's how it works. that's how you should implement it. make sure we're toking about the same domain name and this will fully work after you transfer also the domain name to your Shopify store. this is it again. you can add one by one if if you don't have that many, or you can do an import/export of your URLs if you have a bunch of them to do. if you have any questions, please let me know in the comments below if you have any suggestions. I'll, so use the comments. don't forget to subscribe to my channel and also please like the video. if this was useful. if you need help with your Shopify store, you need something specific, maybe a new design, you want to change something, you want to add a functionality, you want to create a private app? whatever you need, I have my own agency. How To Redirect 404 Error Pages in Shopify
hi, in this video i'll show you how to redirect 404 pages in shopify. and, as a brief recap, 404 page is basically a non-existing page on your website and there could be many reasons why. what happens? potentially you had a product in the past on this page and then you discontinued it or you stopped selling it and you totally removed the product from your website, which means that the link which originally, uh, the product had, circulates the web. maybe it was shared on social media or forums, reddit and other social platforms, and visitors also- maybe not many, but they still click on that link. they'll lend you your website and they're basically greeted with the 404 page- not found. and most likely we're going to do is simply leave the website, and your goal is to show your visitors most relevant products. so in my case, i have a product called cream sofa set which obviously doesn't exist- 404 page- and i want to redirect the this link to a similar product and on my website i have this- another great product called gray sofa. and how? how should i redirect it? very simple, i'll show you how to do it. basically, you have to be log into your admin panel, click on online store, then look for navigation. click on view url redirects at the top corner and here just look for create url redirect. then look for the 404 page and simply copy the path. in my case it's slash products, slash cream sofa, not the actually full url but just the path and we'll paste it here and redirect to. let's redirect it to my other active listing again. we just copy the path for the active listing, redirect 2. so creamsofa set redirects to gray sofa and save redirect. so now we go back, we click refresh and here we go. as you can see, the 404 page redirects to the active listing of gray sofa. sometimes it may take several minutes to process due to cdn and stuff like that, but generally if you set up your redirects correctly, it should work and, for example, if you do not do not have a similar product you can recommend to your customers. you can simply, instead of putting them full path to an active listing, you just can leave a slash here and it will simply redirect your customers to a home page. and let's just do it here right now: save redirect. let's copy the link [Music]. here we go, as you can see, i changed the redirect path to home page and if anybody lands on cream sofa, they're greeted with my plain homepage and, again, it's a development store, so you won't really find anything much here. so i hope you found this video useful and if you would like to learn more about shopify, please ensure describe my channel. thank you.
Shopify: How To Redirect A Product URL For a Discontinued Product
so in this video i'm just going to quickly run through how we would redirect a page url to a new page or new collection within shopify. the reason why we want to do this is that once a product becomes discontinued, we want google to know that the url is going to be removed from our site and, rather than google displaying a 404 page- not found error- we're going to have it redirect to the collection that that product came from, because the client that is searching for that product is still likely looking for that collection of products. so the example we're going to use is a fantasy housing- camera housing that is now no longer available, and we're going to redirect the uh url to the underwater cameras selection within the website. so i'm going to jump on into shopify now so you should be able to see the screen. here we're actually on the fantasy g9x. oh, just moving the screen. there we're on the fancy fg9x underwater housing. this product's been moved to draft because it's no longer available, but what we can do is we can hold on, we can go to the bottom of the page and in here this is the url for the product. okay, so the first thing you want to do is take this url. you want to copy it. i've used ctrl c. you can right click on it and click copy here. you then want to go ahead and head on over to online store, click navigation, which is down here. you want to then go over here to say, view url redirects. you want to click that? and then what you want to do is you want to come up to here and create a url redirect. i'm going to click that and we're going to tell google to redirect from this url, and what we need to do is we need to find the url that we want to redirect to. i'm going to just dive straight into one of these now. so that's into masks. that's the wrong one. we want cameras. there we go. is this the one that we want to put someone into? let's just take a look. have we got some housings in here? yeah, we got some housings in here. yeah, that's good stuff. so we're going to redirect them to this, uh, this page. i'm going to just take this piece here, which is from the web address at the top. you want to do everything after the dot co, dot uk or dot com, so you're going to copy that. right click it copy. go back to our redirect right, click it, paste that you don't need to worry about having a slash on the very end. so forward slash collections, forward slash cameras. so we're just telling google now to redirect anyone that goes to this fg9x underwater housing page, redirect it to cameras, and we're going to just click the save redirect button. and what we're actually going to do is we're going to just go and test that right now. so the way that we can test that is we can go and put this name in into google, into the search bar, and we can put that and then put scuba leads at the end. so this is the camera that we're looking at. if we now click that, that should redirect us to the cameras page because it has products forward slash this. so let's go and have a look. and it's gone ahead and redirected us already. so that's just gone ahead and worked. okay, that's everything that i've got for this video. um, i hope that makes sense to you. if you need any more, just ask me. i'm here. info at newhorizondigitalcom. i'll speak to you soon. cheers.
