There are good reasons why merchants like Shopify and Square- They are two of the largest all-in-one merchant solutions- as they rise above the pack in terms of the value they promise. Today, we examine the similarities and differences between the 2, so you can choose the right one that best fits your needs. Both Shopify and Square have grown considerably in the past few years. The result Is that the two services started off catering to very different audiences, now have very similar offerings. Shopify originally launched in 2006 as an eCommerce software. Since then, shopify has made selling online much easier for merchants, especially those who are just starting their business. As for the cons, Shopify charges a monthly fee, the cost of add-ons can add up fast and Shopify's POS offline mode is a bit weak. On the other hand, Square is the most comprehensive free mobile POS out there. When the company was founded in 2009,, they were the first to make card processing widely available to everyone using a free card reader and a smartphone. Having grown exponentially since then, Square now offers a comprehensive suite of business products for merchants just like you looking to sell in-store, online and on the go. And unlike Shopify, Square and its POS app, Square point of sale charges no monthly fee, making it great. if you sell in person but only process card payments once in a while. How To Integrate Square with Shopify

hi guys, this is speak about digital, and in this video, I will show you a simple way how you can easily connect square with Shopify. so this is like an easy and short tutorial. what you want to do is just scroll down below on this video to the description, and click the link. then you are going to come across this page. make and Mac is a powerful integration platform that would allow you to connect different apps without having twice a single line of code. make integrates with over 1000 apps and services. two of those apps are Shopify and square, and you can also get the free accounts that you can test results by yourself. okay, so to connect square with Shopify, just follow the steps after clicking the link in the description. now you need to sign up. to make it's easy as, just fill in these forms, or you can also sign up using your Google accounts, your Facebook accounts or your GitHub accounts, and after that, this is your dashboard. now you want to click this create new scenario button right here on the top right, and here you are. click the plus sample and just search for the apps that you want to connect, let's say square, or you want to add Shopify first. that's completely up to you and, as you can see, each application usually has different scans of modules inside of it, because you can do different things with those applications: create an order, cancel an order, create a products, the list of products, delete a customer- so you can simply choose which one you want. Square Online Store Review 2022 | Is it Any Good for Ecommerce?

what's up guys. i'm paul, and welcome to the ecommerce gold youtube channel. now, in today's video, we're going to be looking at square, and specifically their ecommerce website builder, to see if it's any good and whether or not you should consider it for your ecommerce business, and for this review, we're going to be looking at the pricing- what you get for your money and a quick overview of what the platform is like to use. now, before i get into the review, i do just want to tok about the history of square, because it is somewhat interesting- well, it is to me anyway- because square initially was founded in 2009 as a card reader allowing people to take credit and debit card payments in face-to-face transactions on a pay-as-you-go basis, and as the company grew, they started adding more offerings to that arsenal, with a full point of sale system and then online payments. but it was in 2018 when square really made the move into the world of e-commerce, when they acquired weebly, the website builder, and this enabled them to offer their users a fully fledged website builder and enable them to sell products online. so it is quite an interest in history, but is it any good? well, that's what we're going to be looking at in this video. so let's get started. so the first thing we're going to be looking at is the pricing and square offer four packages for their users, and the one that's going to be appealing to a lot of people is the free option, because if you're starting a business on a shoestring budget, free is always appealing and it is a pretty generous offering, to be honest, because you get to sell unlimited products. you can sell on facebook and instagram. there's also multiple delivery options. you get seo tools and, to be honest, for a free package it's a pretty feature rich offering. but there are some drawbacks with the free package. the first one is you can't use your own custom domain name. you have to use one of the square linked domain names, which isn't great from a branding perspective. secondly, square do place adverts in the footer of your website, basically promoting the square platform to try and get some more business based off your website, which is understandable. it's a free offering. and the third one is the limited payment gateways, because you can only really offer squares payment option on the free package. but what about the paid options? what do they offer? well, the three that they offer are really reasonably priced because you get the professional one, which is 16 a month. you have a performance one, which is 29 a month, and the premium one, which is 79 a month, and if you pay for these annually, you also get a discount on them as well. now, with all of the paid plans, you get to use your own custom domain name and the square adverts are removed from the footer of your website, so the website is just branded to you and your business, which is obviously what you want. but what do you get for your money? well, let's take a look now. i'm not going to go through and tok about every single feature that square has to offer, because this would basically be just reading off a screen, which would be incredibly boring, but if you do want to go and see this detailed breakdown of the features that square has to offer, i will leave a link to my website, e-commerce gold, in the description below, where i have a full written review, which is what you can see on screen, while i've gone through and basically listed all of the features that square has to offer- and, as you can see, there's a lot of e-commerce tools- you also get some good marketing and seo tools, but the one thing i do just want to tok about is payment gateways, because these are quite limited. on the free plan and the professional plan, you can only use square's payment gateway. now you can offer google pay and apple pay as well, but that's all you can offer in terms of payment options, and if you want to add paypal, you are going to have to move on to the performance or the premium plan. but that's the total offering when it comes to payment gateways, which is somewhat understandable because square, at its core, is a payment gateway, but it's still quite limited in terms of options. but as you move on to the premium plan, you do get some preferential rates. when it comes to processing credit and debit card payments, as you can see on screen, it does drop a little bit. you get a 0.3 percent reduction in your fees, which may not sound a lot, but on hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of sales, that could actually be quite a bit of money. so what else does square off? while it offers a few shipping options, you can offer custom rates. you can offer free shipping, local delivery and also in-store pickup as well. so the final two are great options if you're using square pos in your bricks and mortar store, because basically you can connect with your local community, offer local delivery or have people place orders and then come and pick them up from your store, so this is a really good option for people who have physical stores. now, when it comes to reporting analytiks, these are only available on the paid options, and if you want the full e-commerce analytiks, you are going to have to go onto the performance or the premium plan. now one thing is the square up marketplace, which is an interesting offering because it allows you to integrate square with other different third-party platforms, maybe for things like shipping. there's also things for accountancy and things like that as well, so it just makes it so you can integrate it with other platforms to hopefully make running your business easier. now, not all of the apps offered in the app marketplace are available for the online store. some of them are just for the point of sale system, so you need to go through and see what's actually available when it comes to the app marketplace. so, next up, we're going to look at the theme selection and customization. now, when it comes to theme selection, you've got one thing to choose from. that's it, but it is a really clean base theme to work from and the customization is actually pretty good. so if we go into our square dashboard, go into website, click on edit site, it will bring up the theme customizer and in my opinion, it's really really good. it's one of the better ones that i've actually used because it offers you a lot of options, especially if you're using the free plan, because all these tools are available on the free plan because that's what i'm using. i'm not on the paid options. so, as you can see, this is the basically the default theme. it's a very minimalistik looking theme, but it offers you lots of customization options and you can go through and click on any of these sections and make edits to them. you can choose what you want to do, but you can also add sections as well, and there's a really good selection of sections that you can add to your website. as you can see, there's across different categories and, considering these are all available on the free plan as well, i think this is really good because you can make a really good looking homepage using squares customizer. it is really good and you can actually go into different pages on your site, so you can go into category pages, you can go on to your product pages and there's options available here as well, so you can go through and edit different sections on your page. you can add sections. you can really make it look custom. you can customize it to you and your business. i think it's a really good theme customized and it's something that's quite enjoyable to use as well, because it's very easy. everything is basically click and drop. there's no coding or anything like that involved. so a really good theme customizer, a good offering from square on that one. let's go back into the dashboard and let's tok about some other features that are available with square if we scroll down. let's tok about support, because that is important when you're using an e-commerce platform. you want to know there's somebody available you can contact should you run into any issues, and square.

Square Online Store vs Shopify | 2022 Ecommerce Comparison

what's up guys. i'm paul, and welcome to the ecommerce gold youtube channel. now, in this video, we're going to be comparing squares online store offering against shopify, to see which one is the better option for your e-commerce business, and to compare these two. we're going to be looking at the pricing, where you get for your money and a quick overview of what these two platforms are like to use to hopefully give you an idea of which one is going to work for you. so let's get started. so the first thing i'm going to be looking at is the pricing of the two platforms and, as you can clearly see on screen, square is the cheaper option out of the two, even more so with the fact that they offer a completely free plan. now, there are some limitations on the free plan: you're limited to 500 megabytes data storage, you can't use your own custom domain name and there is a square advert placed in the footer of the site, but it is still completely free and you get access to most of the features that square offers as well. but just going back to pricing, as you can see, shopify is the more expensive of the two, and there is a more expensive shopify option as well, which is shopify plus, which is for basically enterprise level e-commerce businesses, and this starts from around about 1500 a month. but there is another fee that shopify charges that makes them an even more expensive option. so if you scroll down a bit, as you can see, i've highlighted it here is that they charge a transaction fee for any payment received outside of shopify's own payment gateway. so if you're using any kind of third-party platform, whether it's things like paypal or amazon pay, you have to pay this transaction fee. now it does depend on the package you're on as to the transaction fee you pay, because if you're on the basic package, it's two percent, if you're on the standard package, it's one percent and if you're on the advanced, it drops to 0.5. but this is still a fee that you need to factor in and, on top of the monthly subscription cost, it can make shopify quite an expensive option. now, as it's on screen, i'm going to quickly tok about the free trials. now, as i've already mentioned, square offers a completely free package, and this is in place of a free trial. shopify, on the other hand, offer a 14 day free trial, which allows you to test the platform out, but you can't take any live orders like you can with squares free plan or you can actually test it out with live customers. so it is a little bit limited in that way, but you can create test orders and things like that to truly test the platform out. now, if you want to try either of these out for yourself, i will leave links in the description to both square and shopify if you want to go and try them out for yourself. so, with the price, now the way, let's tok about what you actually get for your money, and the first thing is features. now i'm not going to go through every single feature that both platforms offer, because basically that'd be me just reading off the screen and that'd be incredibly boring and this video would be super long and i have a tendency to make long videos anyway. but there are two main things i want to tok about when it comes to features. the first one is the types of products you can sell as standard, because with square, they offer a variety of different product types. if we just jump into the square dashboard quickly, i'll show you exactly what i mean. so if we add a new product, when it loads- it's been a bit slow today. create a new item. as you can see you've got item type. there's lots of different item types you can sell, so you can sell physical products, digital products, services, membership type products. there is a good selection of different product types you can sell, whereas with shopify, on the other hand, you are limited as standard to selling just physical products and service based products. if you want to sell any other types of products- so a digital product with a download- you're going to have to install an app for this, or if you want to sell memberships or things like that, you're going to have to use an app for this and to get the decent features about good features, these are going to be paid for options, which is something else you do need to consider. the other thing i want to tok about when it comes to features is payment gateways, because when it comes to payment gateway options, square is really limited, and this is mainly because square is basically a payment gateway. that's how they actually started was as a payment provider, and then they ventured into basically the world of e-commerce when they acquired weebly in 2018. but when it comes to payment gateways, as you can see on screen is quite limited, but on the free package and the professional package, which is the entry level paid option, you only get squares payment gateway, apple pay and google pay, which is run through the square payment gateway. if you want to add paypal, you need to go onto one of the two top paid options, but when it comes to payment gateways, that's it. there's no more options available. you're limited to them four options. shopify, on the other hand, has a huge selection of payment gateways. if you just scroll down a bit, as you can see, there is a huge number to choose from and this is just a snapshot. there's actually- i think there's- over 100 you can actually choose from on shopify, with some being very country specific because it's a global platform. so there is a massive choice of payment gateways available on shopify. but do remember what i've already said is if you're using a third-party payment gateway, you are going to have to pay that transaction fee. you only don't pay if you're using shopify payments, and both platforms are for an app store as well. shopify's one has over 3 000 to choose from, which is a huge selection and offers a variety of different features and functionality, as well as integrations with third-party platforms. now square does offer their own app marketplace as well, but it has a much smaller selection and most of these are actually integrations with other software rather than features that you can add to your store. also, not all of the apps in there are just for the online store. some of them are for the point of sale system or other services the square offers. so they're not all available for the online store. and also, some of these are paid for options. this applies to both square and shopify when it comes to the app. so when you are installing these, check to see how much they cost, because you're probably going to be billed on a monthly basis for these apps as well, so it's another cost that you do need to factor in. but basically, that's an overview of the features you do get from both platforms. and next up, i want to tok about the theme selection and customization, because you want to have a good looking site. you want it to look good for your customers. so what do these two platforms offer? well, when it comes to theme selection, square is very, very limited, because you get one default theme which you can then customize to fit your branding. so if we just jump into our square dashboard, if we come out of that page and we go into website and edit site. it brings up the theme customizer, and it's actually a really good theme customizer. it's one of the better ones that i've used, and, especially as this is all available on the free package as well, it's pretty impressive. so, when it comes to the theme customizer, you can actually do quite a lot, even though it's a pretty basic, quite generic looking theme. there are a lot of customization options because you can choose which sections are available on your home page. you can also create custom pages as well, which is really good a feature that's not available on a lot of platforms, and there's a good selection of sections you can choose from as well, across a variety of different options. there's also options for the header and also footer as well, and there's some site design options, which include colors, your logo and also fonts that are available as well, and s

well, with squarespace, it's pretty easy. we click add, choose a gallery and upload our photos. nice. now shopify doesn't have a gallery that we can add, at least not by default, so we need to upload each image individually. let's fast forward through this. there we go, we can save and view our page, and there we go. remember, squarespace is for all kinds of websites, so they need a flexible page editor that can build all kinds of pages: homepage, photo galleries, about us pages, blogs, contact pages, testimonials and a bunch more. shopify is just for online stores and online stores basically all have the same pages. they need a home page, product page and checkout page and maybe a categories page. because of that, it's just not as high of a priority for shopify to have a flexible page editor like squarespace. let's look at something else. let's look at editing our website theme. if we want to edit our theme on squarespace, we go to design site styles and let's change our font. we have a bunch of fonts we can choose from, but let's try this one. okay. let's go back and edit the colors. so we have a palette for our website and it's an easy way to add our brand colors if we edit it. so let's choose from some preset colors- interesting, okay, yep. what i like about squarespace is that if you'd like to get really specific and change exactly where and how colors and fonts are used, you can still do that too. so let's customize our theme. in shopify. we go to themes, customize and theme settings and here we can set some colors. so let's change the color of the headings- okay, and if we scroll down to typography, we can choose some different fonts. now, we do often run into some limits when customizing shopify themes. for example, we can change the text color, but what if i want a different color for the out of stok tags. well, unfortunately, in order to do that, i'd need to edit some css code, which can be frustrating if you're not comfortable with code. overall, squarespace is just easier to use. they've removed as many obstacles as possible so that anyone can build any kind of website. shopify is all about removing obstacles too, but in a different way. shopify is all about removing obstacles for creating online stores, and this is where shopify really shines. so let's tok about e-commerce. it's only when you build an online store that you really gain an appreciation for how complicated it really is. then you realize there is a lot to think about. you need a credit card processor to accept credit cards. you need to collect accurate taxes. you need to integrate with shipping services that can estimate shipping for your customers and also make it easy to print shipping labels, and a whole lot more beyond this. in my experience, shopify makes these complications much simpler and in many cases, they've made e-commerce easier than squarespace. for example, in order to accept credit cards on squarespace, you need to integrate with a credit card processor such as stripe, a payment processing company. it's just another step and hassle. by default, shopify hooks you into their own credit card processor called shopify payments. so if shopify payments works for you, you don't ever need to think further about payment processing. it just works out of the gate. setting up accurate taxes with squarespace takes some work, especially for canadians like me. i have to manually go through each province and set its tax rate. shopify automatikally has these provincial tax rates built in, so i can just quickly get up and running and not have to think too hard about it. and shopify integrates with a ton of shipping services, and you'll definitely want to integrate with a shipping service because it makes things like printing off shipping labels really easy. i've had mixed success with this on squarespace. my shipping service is canada post because i'm canadian, but squarespace only integrates with fedex or usps for automatik shipping calculations, which makes my life a lot more complicated. and then, on top of all of this is shopify's most important e-commerce feature: the app store. [Music]. online stores always need random features that you don't think about at first, and the shopify app store is here to help. there's apps for everything: restok alerts, facebook integrations, live chat, product reviews. basically, shopify's core includes everything that most stores need: products, discounts, that kind of thing. the app store includes everything else, so you can add a live chat app or a restok notification app for customers. there are thousands of apps on shopify's app store and it's growing fast. squarespace has something similar called squarespace extensions, but it's much smaller: 31 extensions currently. so you can sell physical products on both shopify and squarespace. but shopify definitely makes it easier, and if you listen to squarespace's ceo, anthony casolina, he's actually pretty frank that while squarespace enables you to sell physical products, just like shopify, they're actually trying to push their commerce into new areas like appointment scheduling and taking reservations for restaurants. squarespace is not just websites and and physical commerce. it's so much more. it's tools for the hospitality industry. it's tools for appointment booking and scheduling. um, there's new emerging business models. we want to highlight things like member areas, which we're going to expand into, and so squarespace has focused on types of commerce that shopify isn't great at, like restaurant reservations, selling memberships and courses and appointment scheduling, and for these types of commerce, squarespace is really excellent. okay, templates. templates, of course, are the look and feel of your website. let's take a look at some squarespace templates and now shopify [Music]. as you can see, there are beautiful templates available for both squarespace and shopify, though i do find squarespace templates are just a lot easier to customize and make beautiful like. one of my favorite features is the section editor. it makes it quick and easy to create pretty beautiful splash sections. you can kind of do that with shopify, but i
