Why You Should Start Selling Books on Amazon

so now i want to tok about the benefits
of selling books on amazon
all the different things that that
entails so that you are inspired
essentially
to understand why this is a positive
what you can focus on
and what positive positives it's going
to bring both to your seller account
and you uh and your bank account
obviously like your pockets right so
what are some of the benefits of
actually selling books on amazon well
they're very very cheap to acquire so
you can get free books
you can get very very cheap books both
things i'm going to show you in this
course they're also very very cheap
to uh you know to fulfill and they're
very very cheap to sell
on amazon right so for example how
they're cheap uh they're cheap in fees
when you send them into fba so if you
send something into fba obviously
you're always hit with a fee based on
like the referral fee
uh that which is basically like what
amazon what it costs uh
what amazon charges you essentially to
have your item
in fba with the prime tag uh and then
them referring you the sale so it's
basically the cost of having it on their
website with the prime tag
that's the referral fee it's also they
also charge you you know to have it in
their warehouse and store it in their
warehouse
based on certain like like how how big
the item is
how much it weighs and stuff like that
so the fees are much cheaper for books
when you're in fba so they're cheap to
sell they're also cheap to sell fbm
so examples of that are you know they're
very very easy to store
they're very very easy to keep in a
condensed little pot like part of your
house or
your garage or your warehouse or you
know in boxes or something like that so
they're very very easy to keep
track of they're also very very easy to
sell fbm because the prices
and not just the fees when you're
selling fbm but also the cost to
actually fulfill them
are super super cheap okay so for
example they're also very very easy to
fulfill
so what you can either send them into
fba you can fill them yourself
and you can just slide them into like an
envelope or like a poly mail or two of
the things that we'll tok about when we
cover a little bit more in depth
the cheapest ways to fulfill textbooks
in that lecture or not just textbooks
excuse me books in general
you can just ship them you can just
literally slide them into a polymailer
shut the polymailer
slap the label on and boom drop it in a
mailbox right you don't have to actually
take it to the to to the post office get
out of your car you don't have to
you know schedule a pickup you don't
have to put them into a big box and ship
them all into fba
uh or or ship them in you know and drop
them
and and walk into like a uh a ups or a
fedex and scan them in right
it's very very easy to do you put them
in a poly mailer you slide them into an
envelope you shut the envelope or the
polymailer
you put the label on you drop it in a
blue mailbox via the post office
and you can fill it to fulfill it super
cheap either media mail or usps
uh printed bound matter which is both
like super super cheap so we're toking
like
two dollars and 35 cents or like two
dollars and 50 cents or something like
that
i think sometimes it's like up to like
280 but 280 to ship something
is super cheap so that's another benefit
of fulfilling textbooks
you can get them free you can get
inventory very very cheap and it's also
very very cheap to sell them both fba
and fulfill them both fba and sell them
fbm and fulfill them fbm
as well okay they also sell very quickly
so one thing that amazon
was initially when it started was a book
reselling site right it was like the
biggest online retailer of books
and then it slowly started branching out
into other categories and other
different things right so
it originally started as a book
marketplace and books
still sell ridiculous amounts on amazon
they also sell faster in q4 so quarter
four
right so we're toking uh uh what is
that september october november and
december
uh of those months right q4 and they
also sell faster and
for more and higher prices during
textbook seasons
so for those of you that don't know you
can utilize that information to your
advantage
buy them for a lot less outside of
textbook seasons or right before
textbook seasons
make an investment for like a week or
two and then
re-list them for a much higher price
because eventually there's gonna be a
more there's gonna be a much higher
demand during textbook season
because college students are going back
to uh you know school and they're going
to need to buy these textbooks and all
these things
are going to be things that we're going
to tok about and i'm going to tok to
you about specifically
when we go through some of the e-flip
tutorials and sourcing things like
textbooks so you can kind of gauge the
demand
gauge how you know what the pricing
structure is and you know what your
potential margins
can be so if you don't understand that
right now it's totally fine we'll get
into that during those tutorials
but just understand that you they sell
for more and there's a higher demand
during textbook season which in the fall
is about mid july to
mid october that's fall that's fall
semester right
into fall semester for college students
and in mid december to early february
that's the spring semester
uh for college students as well so
during about mid july to mid-october
right
and during mid-december to about early
february those two pockets of windows
are when there's a higher demand for
those books and there's textbooks on
amazon
and there's they're going to sell at a
higher price and you can list them for a
higher price
because people are going to need them
and other sellers are going to sell out
of their inventory
so that means that other people will be
more willing to pay for your book
at a higher price than when you bought
it just few weeks before
and the demand was super low and the
prices were all the way driven low right
so you can use those discrepancies not
just from website to website which is
arbitrage 101
but also in the time periods that you're
buying them if you understand the
textbook seasons
also on top of that there is a summer
textbook window but it's very very short
and sporadic so we won't really focus on
that
too too much here but that's important
to understand because once you
understand those discrepancies
you can really make a lot of money more
benefits though
that's just kind of like the basics the
other benefits that you want from an
amazon standpoint is it's going to
increase your sales okay so it's going
to increase your sales it's very very
easy to sell these things
and just understanding what an increase
in sales means just because it's not
just like some
something that you can be proud about
right it's not just like a little check
mark by your name that says hey i have x
amount of sales on amazon no there's
some
important reasons that you want to
increase your sales on amazon right
the benefits of increasing your sales on
amazon with cheap books that are easy to
fulfill
are that you can get ungated you can
improve your seller metrics and you can
make a lot of money so let's tok about
each one of those
specifically a little bit more in depth
when you tok about getting ungated
there's two ways to get ungated on
amazon for top brands right
so if you want to sell like nike or puma
or like apple or things like that right
there's only two ways that you can get
on gated
on amazon we're going to tok about both
of those ways a little bit more in depth
in the next lecture
and we're also going to tok more
specifically about one of them in the
next lecture as well which is not what
we're going to be focused on
in this so what i want to focus on right
here is getting ungated via maximum
approval
now maximum approval is something on the
back end that amazon gives sellers
that have a number of sales that have
basically shown and demonstrated
a history of selling and fulfilling
items on amazon or
in increase of sales right uh for an
extended period of time and have shown
to have good metrics and happy customers
so by selling a lot of books people that
want to get ungated to sell things like
nike right and sell things like adidas
and they and like top brands like that
one of the benefits of selling top
brands like that
is that not many people are ungated to
sell top brands like that
therefore the margins are super super
great
so if you can get ungated you are going
to be one of the few that are ungated in
those brands in those
and those different categories right so
by selling
a lot of books because they're super
cheap and easy to acquire and also
because they're very
cheap to fulfill and you can make good
money on them you can use books to not
just make money with book flipping and
reselling arbitrage but you can also use
books to then
shift that into a different uh spectrum
and different form of amazon selling
and go get ungated via maximum approval
so if you sell a lot of books basically
put simply you can get ungated for like
top brands like nike and adidas right
now nobody really knows what the what
the actual tier is that you have to hit
to get maximum approval and maximum
approval
is is basically like i said it's just
this tag that amazon gives certain
sellers on the back end
so that when you go in to add a product
in your seller central right and you
will see that in the in the e-flip
tutorial
uh and some of those things that we'll
tok about you'll notike that some
some brands and some things you're gated
for right it'll say you're not you're
you're restricted to sell this on amazon
what maximum approval does is once you
hit a certain tier
and it's speculated what that tier is
we're gonna cut we're gonna tok about
the 2000 sales
in a six month period here in a second
which is what most people believe it to
be
uh once you hit that maximum approval
tier
then you can just hit that request
approval and amazon will immediately
accept you
because your seller metrics are so good
and you've sold so many sales and
fulfilled and had so many happy
customers right
it's basically just this kind of uh this
automatik approval that amazon gives you
for any brand or any category that you
then want to sell
because you have a history of satisfying
their customers
for an extended period of time and doing
it to the level that they expect right
because amazon is literally only focused
and obsessed about their customers so if
you can then
show them via maximum approval and one
of the easiest ways to do that is by
selling a lot of books
if you can then demonstrate to amazon
that you can basically hit their quota
and get maximum approval by fulfilling
all those books to good customers and
making them happy for an extended period
of time
then you can then sell other items which
then you will expand your horizons
and give you the ability to sell a lot
more items and make a lot more money
that 99.9 of sellers aren't able to make
so maximum approval is it's believed
nobody really knows what it is but it's
believed to be about two thousand sales
in a six month period
so when people get set out to get
ungated for like top brands like nike
because there's a great opportunity in
those top brands right and there's also
top
uh an opportunity in top brands like
mattel right which is like the brand
that makes like barbie right
or things like that all the top brands
so anything like that if you want to get
ungated there's two ways to get ungated
we're going to tok about basically
getting invoices from
uh manufacturer in the next lecture but
the easiest way probably to get ungated
for
practikally everything is selling books
that's what everybody sets out to do
when they set out to get maximum
approval
the reason that you want to go after
books is like we toked about before
they are super super cheap to in fees
they are super super cheap to fill and
you can get a lot of books
very very easy and they sell very fast
so to get maximum approval without
selling books
you would have to sell a lot a lot a lot
of wholesale stuff
you would have to sell a lot of your
private label product you would have to
sell a lot of other arbitrage products
and you're going to be spending a lot of
money to do that and then potentially
not
making a lot of money back so your tail
you're tying up maybe
tens of thousands of dollars if not more
to potentially
hopefully hit that in sales whereas with
books you can
maybe drop like 500 or a grand over the
span of those six months hopefully
and continue to multiply that money over
and over again and hit the 2000
sales much faster with a lot less risk
does that make sense i hope it does so
that's why and one of the biggest
benefits of selling books on amazon
is because you can get to maximum
approval a lot faster
by increasing your sales on top of that
it's also going to increase your seller
metrics because one of the things that
we see
is if you can fulfill books very very
easy and make happy customers and
there's not there's there's very fine
line between books right it's either in
a sellable condition or it's not
so very rarely are you going to get a
bad rating and a bad review or bad
seller feedback on your book
so practikally every sale is a positive
check mark on your account
and it's going to slowly increase your
seller metrics what that's going to do
is it's going to allow you to get the
buy box on amazon at higher prices and
easier via other sellers right because
if you're selling a lot of books and
your seller metrics are all the way up
here because you're selling
uh you know a few hundred books every
month and other sellers are selling like
a hundred
arbitrage items who do you think's gonna
get the buy box at at the same price
you are so you can then potentially not
only get the buy box at a higher price
but you're gonna sell your stuff a lot
easier by doing so
so there's so many different reasons why
you wanna go after books
you're gonna increase your sales you're
going to get ungated hopefully via
maximum approval by selling a lot
and you can also if you're selling other
arbitrage items
get the buy box a lot higher v versus
other sellers because you're doing that
okay
so what is the buy box for those of you
that don't know here's an example
listing right here
the buy box is where about 95 if not
more
of amazon sales come from okay so add to
cart right here or buy now
the this is the buy box right here
nobody else you'll notike that if you
look right here it says there's 12
other offers new and used so there are
12 sellers
selling this item right here on amazon
here they are all listed right here but
the only person
that's getting about 95 of sales is
amazon.com because right now
they own the buy box so you can get the
buy box at a much higher margin and a
much higher price point
if you sell a lot of books because you
will have
a lot higher didn't mean to do that you
will have a lot higher seller metrics
and that's another benefit of selling
books okay
now furthermore just to kind of wrap
this up it's very very easy to make
money with books because the prices can
be super super high
in amazon and the cost of fulfillment
like we said is super super cheap
not to mention i'm going to show you
ways to get books very very cheap or
even
free very often i'm going to show you an
example of how i got a thousand books
yes a thousand books for free by just
putting a little bit of legwork in you
can also go out and source like gaylord
palettes
which are super super cheap uh if you
have like one like uh somewhere that has
like pallets like that
near you you can get super super cheap
books for like 10 cents or 25 cents
or sometimes even a cent a book and
obviously if you're getting your
inventory that
cheap it's very very easy for you to
list all that and make
money doing so so it's very easy to make
money with books the prices can be super
high on amazon
and the cost of fulfillment and the cost
to acquire that inventory
is very very cheap okay for example it
might cost you
5 cents 10 cents or 50 cents to send a
book into fba
because you're not ever going to send
one-off books into fba okay
that's also something we'll tok about
in the e-flip tutorials whenever i send
books into fba
i'm sending in like a hundred at a time
or like 50 at a time
so if it might cost me like five to ten
bucks potentially or like five to seven
bucks to ship a box of books in
and maybe i'm shipping like three boxes
and i'm sending in 100 100 books
well if i'm sending in 100 books and
let's let's run the numbers to show you
an example right here right
let's say i'm sending 100 books into fba
okay so 100 books and it costs me
you know 15 bucks to send those in
because i'm sending them in three boxes
and each box is five bucks right
so it cost me 15 bucks to send in 100
books how much does that cost me
15 cents a book so it's super cheap for
me
to either send them into fba and then
amazon will obviously fulfill it for me
for
a small fee and i don't have to do any
of the legwork or
it can be as super super cheap as 250
for you to ship it yourself
via either um and we're going to tok
about this in a future lecture as well
either media mail or br bound printed
matter
whereas it might if you're filling
something else by yourself as a merchant
it can cost you all the way up to like
seven to like 20
i know because i've tried it so it
doesn't cost you much to ship books
whether you're sending them to fba or
you're fulfilling them by merchant
yourself
which is what i basically mean by fbm so
fulfilled by merchant
or fulfilled by amazon so those are the
benefits of selling books
look at it as a long game obviously
we're all in this to make money
and you're going to make a lot of money
doing this if you're sourcing books
correctly
that said also look at as a look at it
as a long game
so that you can increase your sales
improve your seller metrics and get
ungated for other categories and other
top brands
this is one of the easiest ways to do so
