Don Quijote Hawaii Walkthrough
hi, friends, today we're going to don quijote. if you saw my other video, like the marukai daiso foodland, you know that i love going to grocery stores and scoping out the new foods. so come with me to don quixote. as you can see, it's kind of in a random shopping center, but it's good inside. so let's go in and you can tell that there's a lot of japanese writing, because there are a lot of japanese products in here, but you just got to look around. it's not the most easy to find the stuff that you want, but once you get a lay of the land, it's not too bad. there's japanese beauty products, asian beauty products in general. there's also hawaiian chocolates, so if you're looking for those macadamia chocolates to take home, this is a good place. there's also other hawaii foods. clothes- if you're looking for swimwear, t-shirts, slippers, any sort of thing that you might not want to bring from home or that you accidentally forgot- there's all of that, also phone cases and electronics. now we've hit the produce section, and there's a good amount of produce here and it's a pretty good price, and so it's a good place to shop for, for local things, especially if you're staying at a place that you can cook. it'll save you a lot of money, that's for sure. but here there's also a lot of appliances, so we purchased a number of appliances here as we are setting up shop. they have rice cookers, hot water heaters, all sorts of things, and of course there's also a little breads and pastries section, a little bakery section- american bakery items as well as japanese bakery items. also rice galore, cute little penguins as their mascot. really. they've got a lot, a lot of stuff and most things are pretty well priced. so you'll find that this grocery store is pretty well priced priced and a lot of japanese food. so if you're looking for japanese food items, this is a good place to come. let's take a look at coffee, since coffee is a big thing that people think of from hawaii and there is a large selection, as you can see, of different kinds of coffee. you can get the kona coffee, the hawaiian coffee section, right here. there's a bunch of different ones and obviously the 100 kona coffee you're gonna get pricier, but this is my favorite section. this is the pre-made foods. you've got the sushis, you've got the bentos and it's still pretty slim pickings earlier in the morning, but there's a lot more things that get put here as the day goes on. there's meats, there's bentos- again, right now it's super empty, but i promise you there's more stuff as the day goes on and side dishes you can come for, for different side dishes, for your bentos, if you want to pack your own or if you just want things to go with dinner. that are side dishes you don't want to make individually: pastas, noodles, salads, all sorts of stuff here, frozen foods there. and let's go take a look over here there's just a bunch of natto. now this, this, my friends, is the poke bar. this is the seafood section. so per pound you can see different types of poke and they have their poke selection right here: one, two, three, four, five, six. i think i saw one, two, three, four, five, six, seven different kinds of tuna poke and whatever you like, if you like the spicy, if you like the wasabi, if you like the shoyu, if you like any kind. it is here and i won't say it's the best poke from a grocery store, but the price is decent and the flavor is decent. so if you're just looking for a quick, decently priced one, this does the job. and then if you're looking for japanese treats, here they are aisles and aisles of japanese treats- also american treats- and then, if you're looking for some japanese art or crafts things- erasers, cute erasers, little crafty things- this section has got you covered. pen stationary- all the things of my childhood, to be honest- healthy slippers- if you need healthy slippers. sandals, beach flip-flops, travel sized items, foot towels, bath mats, all sorts of stuff, everything is here- and knives, if you're looking. honestly, this place has a lot, a lot of things. so if you are looking for something, whether temporary or permanent, it's a good place to come. look, it's very well priced and we are about to head out after picking up a few things. so hope you enjoyed this and see you in the next video. [Music].
Hawaii's Don Quijote Supermarket
hi everybody. today we are in Honolulu and we are at Sochi. okay, so I am- don't you have a hunger? the wheel and this is near the entrance of the plate and right from the Gecko, really different from the water. a lot of like Hawaiian kids here. let me show you what I am to. the bad Hawaiian rainbow school, which actually kind of like Hawaiian kitchen towel, said: if I lived in Hawaii I probably choose one of these forgive away or something, and this is something that I've been lying through my whole, is it? I just love the dumb waste cause wagon, vintage automobile wagon. I remember, I remember the analogy younger. I just want to show you guys how much Japanese culture it will get it to the Hawaiian lifetime like. these are Hawaiian products. these are tea cookie and we are actually Japanese cookie, but you can get the pineapple coconut tea cookies and this is like a favorite of the local people here. if you have a Hawaii only pear pineapple flavor, look at that. huh coffee, lots of coffee. attention this morning, even to Hawaii. you probably online coffee. you want my most famous: 2030. you know our eye to the right around the corner, familiar, while my mother did, and so it means I live here as well. but, um, yeah, we come here like almost every day. my mother came here every single day, mostly for grocery. I used to buy like yogurt self bento and I liked the Chinese place outside. they have how fun. and then one of the best Cal part for me, I lay, I bought those off about manapua outside, but yeah, I always came here. it's open 24 hours. I probably came almost every day as well. but everything, everything. so you know I know a lot of commotion, something that they cannot find Jesse for it. but here in Hawaii you can't. yeah, like this is like my go break and they're like milk bro dishes off the Japanese and, yeah, open them for you. captain, read roughly: yeah, yeah, a lot of deputy great care in Hawaii. and let me show you a wonderful kawaii integer. I know all of you lovely places for the pink hit hi Althea's three and five. I know a lot of my Hawaiian friends loved it. I loved it too. I wish I could buy it, but there's no way I can to help ID him by things like this yogurt cheesecake. basically, this is a chiffon cheesecake, like a Japanese cheesecake. it's pretty good too. [Music]. another one that's like Hawaiian is my Chantilly cake and it's very bloody and Catholic, matter what it is. touch me. butter, sugar, eggs, chocolate, oh good, and you can wear it away. we have coconut cake she placed on it. yeah, there's also a UH. first of all, and, like you guys, read that I showed you because I'm again. oh, love, this is a baked in Hawaii yesterday. Hawaiian between billion business since forever, so this is their own spread in a row. visit the Hawaiian on wheat bread, like in a loaf farms. usually three bread comes like this, like this. this is a, won't doubt. my mother used to just eat the top off and leave me the bottom and she just made it look really, really ugly. this islet here is very interesting because it's all Japanese food. let me show you this is frozen food section, totally happy, like yoga, and I believe this is made in America, not sure, but they also have like Japanese brand which are a little more expensive and there is one brand traduction which is a Hawaiian brand or American Brennan release that make Japanese stuff. and for those who like, not old, but a whole bunch of them, well, I also know that our friend catch, yeah, oh, she loved or doesn't? we don't hear all that. so this one is for Utah, Kentucky, until four dollars in 2010. in Japan it is less than a dollar, yeah, which makes me understand why when my mother comes here, my mother visits me to manage to buy some. this is all, not all. it's all done. this is awesome. imported from Japan, Hawaii, beloved uncle. on the imports are like life dollars. sellers are quite pricey, but you can buy local today. I [Music] can't fight the local control anyway. is Kanako pretty good photographer? you're here? good tofu, oh, and we even have like oh, he isn't here, no me, so it's really into a coin. you need a lot of championship relatively. this is here, hopefully looking cheap. hey, we didn't have to ruin favorite. we have somebody made locally. very well, with you guys, love magic. I always ask us to make this from scratch. we did, like you toked to Lauren woman. now, before we go to the men's later pizza section, I can notike something. look down there. whatever you guys make love with you that long way from Japan. but look, they even have like nominee in English. I've never seen English travel. yeah, Hello Kitty, Lemuria, I wash your hair. what's your hair? d-doctor, for the really interesting here in Hawaii, my favorite thing and the thing that I really, really miss in Japan is the ice cream section. but I can't speak because of excitement. look, a whole roll of ice cream. I just want to like stay here for a whole week and eat ice cream as my sole thing. my mother, the only thing I need for the whole week- devar is at Ohio, my dream. first, that's not going to happen, but ice cream is amazing. and one more thing I'll share, guys, is mochi ice cream. mochi is pretty popular in Hawaii and, yeah, all macho say so. Monty ice cream, oh my, just important after day, oh my god. there's so many things that I'm sorry, guys, but the Hawaiian brand it comes like this with this paper cover. this is what we eat when I was like six years old at school. you open it up like that. it's like Italian ice, sure, buddy? yeah, lots of good time. we are now entering the deli section. I think that you've all been waiting for either sushi jumbo, so much. it looks pretty good, but it's not their $3 a 96. this wood is a combination of like Hawaii and Japanese cultures, just like Java. in that is a sheet and polka dot right for an EDD. in Hawaii they're called mu students, by the way. if you want you can have like a chicken katsu zento Sabha above it. so, and I know a lot of you like curry and I seek hurry as well. be somebody, it's like you don't just let you guys know. I do have a wonderful recipe: how to make this at home and it's better than the one I made you like a coffee bar and this is the different varieties of 15, until they see a pokeball, if you want. the most people only know via the label and autumn 2010. what's the Wonder? the? - no one tricky spot. Vikram, I think you can get the seeming here things and I think that is the great thing about our document. in Hawaii, you can actually get Asian food, a lot of Japanese food and really with food actually, and if you want them in candy, you can buy it here. and, of course, you can buy your favorite Americans about material. well, under open 24 hours and they're located right in the syrup challenge, we can walk into the Hall of Honor. yeah, it's probably one of my favorite supermarket, with the exceptions of I bought something. now I get in. buy any of these because these are Japanese candies. I can buy cheaper in Japan what I wanted. Hawaii dry grid like that. I don't drive, but I wanted something to go behind on the wall when we feel so I think I'm going to speak to some football and so, for those of you that watch all the time, we're going to keep it from the wall and you're going to know that I bought it at the salty located in Hawaii than the time that I showed you guys that, look, this is like an Oreo cookie type recruit which I've never seen before. um, usually my sister doesn't like mochi too much, except for the peanut butter right of it. and here it is. this is the peanut butter mochi. either. hard time finding it, give this kink and it does not say peanut butter, but this is the peanut butter. Watson, and I love mango, honeydew, melon, chocolate, blueberry and they're interesting, but a cute B, but if you don't tell me - then you're in Hawaii. well, guess what? maybe attendance, no problem fighting if there's a peace treaty here in Hawaii, tangy food and you choice the gods on your site. if you're a man. we got the cell phone with a beef, broccoli and garbology. did you get, oh my god, telephone before you do have a staff, garlic, chicken and sweet and sour cabbage. Is The Commissary Cheaper In Hawaii? Commissary vs Don Quijote
hey guys, today i'm going to do something completely different, but it does have something to do with food, i guess. i suppose groceries are food. so we're going to do a comparison of shopping at the commissary versus shopping at a regular grocery store in hawaii. and the question is: do you really save money there and how cheap is it? so a lot of people do not have the privilege to go to the commissary as locals, so you might be curious to see the prices and how much things are there compared to another store here in um oahu. so usually i go to times if i'm going to a local store. but since i'm also doing a food review at don quixote, i was gonna just film the things there and it's pretty similar to any other um grocery store here. the only thing grocery store- i think that is much more expensive than other places- is safeway to me. that's just my personal opinion, but we'll go with don quixote. it's pretty standardized pricing in terms of comparing it to food, land and times. so we get to go to the commissary due to bubba's dad. he's a veteran, so we're fortunate to go there for now. um, so we're just going to go along and look at the prices and then i'll show you prices from local stores. and i'm going to just do a voice over and the reason being is, for those who are hearing impaired, they can see the subtitles and read along, and if you don't want to hear my voice, just turn the volume off or mute button on youtube. okay, so we'll go there and i'll show you the different prices. [Music]. so first we have earthbound 5050 lettuce. it's both 7.99 at both places and the produce at the commissary aren't the greatest. they're all withered away and some are going bad and there's not much selection. here are some mushrooms. they're both going to be the same brand. this one's at the nex and it's 289 each. this one is at don quixote and it is 3.89. this is the broccoli at the nex and it is one dollar and sixty cents a pound. the broccoli at don quixote is 239 a pound. the yellow onions are 69 cents a pound at the nex and here at don quilty they are 189 a pound. potatoes are 89 cents a pound at the nex, don quixote's potatoes 179.. at the commissary you can get local favorites so you can get all your favorite portuguese sausage brands. redondo's jumbo size is what we like. it is 3.51 cents. you can get the other brand for 293. they also have the redondo's hot dogs at dawn kyoto. they're two for seven dollars. so that comes out to three dollars and fifty cents each. at the nex you can get bison even so. bison steaks are 11.49, the mayonnaise for best foods is 402 and miracle whip is 405 at the nex, at don quixote 6.99, for both miracle whip and best foods, the heinz tomato ketchup sixty-eight and the mustard is a dollar thirty-one at the commissary they don't have the same brand, but it's two for five dollars for french's and it's 219 for the heinz tomato ketchup. tostitos- tortilla chips are 3.78 cents and it's two for seven dollars for the same tostitos- any kind of size at don quixote. [Music]: bubbly sparkling water. at the nex is three dollars and two cents. at don quixote it is 4.59 for a case of bubbly. spam is surprisingly more expensive. at the nex it's 329 and it's 299 at don quixote. for prego spaghetti sauce, it's 199 a jar for any flavor. they also have the generic freedoms choice, which is the commissary brand, for dollar forty four we got a dollar fifty four for any kind of ragu. it's 419 for any prego at don quixote and for ragu it is 2.99 a jar [Music]- frosted flakes at the commissary is two dollars and fifty cents a box frosted flakes at don quixote is 7.49, 250 for cocoa puffs, 342 for lucky charms. cocoa puffs at don quixote is 4.79 a box. the cheerios are 322 at the nex. for the other flavors it's 4, 12. 5.99 for cheerios at don quixote. there's lion coffee at the nex as well: 4.99 for any flavor. one bag: 749- a whopping big difference. at don quixote they also sell all hawaiian sun drinks. there's many different flavors as well as aloha- made pretty good selection at the nex commissary and it is only 298 for six pack. it's 399 for a six-pack of any flavor of hawaiian sun at don kyoti, my favorite drink that people hate- 5, 48 for dr pepper and for coke products it's 5, 48 for any kind of coke, diet, caffeine free, whatever. three for 13 for dr pepper and three for thirteen dollars of coke products at don quixote. for bacon at the commissary it's 8.92. for oscar meyer, there's other different kinds of cuts of oscar meyer: 587. there's different kind of brands at don quixote but it's 769 for the same low sodium oscar meyer. the chicken at the commissary is 323 a pound for chicken and the chicken at don quixote is 4.49 a pound for chicken. both are different brands. they didn't have the same kind of brands. the oscar meyer hot dogs they've got the wieners- dollar sixty. the same wieners, 3.99 at don quixote. angus beef, much more expensive. the milk for generic brand is 515 and it's 488 if you want brand name metagold at the commissary, 5.99 at don quixote for the same generic sun hearth milk and it's 7.29 for metal gold milk. for a gallon. eggs are 1.79, very cheap. at the nex commissary it's 5.99 for local eggs and 5.49 for the smaller size. you can get the mainland brand at don quixote for 3.99. that's the lowest one. it's a dollar 83 for country crock, all different kinds, 311 for challenge butter. country croc is 2.99 at don quixote and the same challenge butter is going to be 6.29. toaster strudels are super cheap. they're 1.56 in the freezer aisle at the nex. the same toaster strudels are 3, 39 at don quixote. dreyer's ice cream, surprisingly much more expensive: 5, 18 at the nex commissary. at don quixote it's 3.99 for any flavor, churn style or low-fat as well, all the same price. hill shire farms is 338 for lunch and meat. they've got a ton of different choices at the nex and they also have oscar meyer. they do not have hillshire farms, but this is an idea. they're all about over eight dollars for their different brands. at don quilty it's 357 for oro wheat and it's 3.99 for the same oral wheat bread. at don quixote it's about 294 for classic white generic bread. the same kind of generic bread at don quixote is 3.29. there's love's bread. it came back 3, 32 at the nex and it's 5, 59 at dawn cute. so yeah, that's pretty much my comparison of the commissary versus a typical grocery store here on oahu in hawaii. um, tell me your thoughts in the comments below about the prices and if you're not from here, you can see how expensive it can be to live here in hawaii. it can be pretty expensive with the day-to-day items that you need daily. so if you like this video, press the like button, subscribe if you're new here and i'll see you again next time for another food review soon. see you later, peace out.
